Before anyone make any bad assertation about the educational system(even though we all know it is not something to write home about), please read the whole story again and again. Apparently, it wasn't the system that was at fault but him( his daughter), they weren't able to upload the REQUIRED subject(mathematics) before the portal was closed.

Sorry to say, our educational system is not a respecter of intelligence or scores, it is made for those with adequate information.

Did u read that the math result was released late by WAEC? Is that her fault now? The school should be eager for talents but here, we treat it like a market.

I totally agree with you. WAEC and NECO should be blamed for this.
And for the question, sadly, there hasn't been any effective way.
Why blame WAEC and NECO? When were those exams written? And when did Unilorin close their Portal? Our educational system is going down the drain daily. Why all the rush by schools? All school are supposed to commence fresh admission in September at most to enable those who sat for WAEC (May/june) and NECO (June/July) to make available all relevant requirements. Why exactly did Unilorin closed their portal knowing that some exam bodies are yet to release their results and they have candidates who applied in view.

They did and the school then shut them out before their results were eventually released. According to her, not a single candidate for that programme could apply with NECO result.

That's discrimination of NECO results and breach of their own initial requirement. It should be rejected by everyone of good conscience.

Infact back den, unilorin candidates must av written waec or neco a year b4 writing jamb. All ur results must av been complete b4 portal closed. Infact when i 1st saw d topic i knew sumtin was not right because unilorin will never deny sumbody with that result admission. Schools av rules nd its unfortunate dat people re now using social media to call schools out in order to bend d rules for em

Let JAMB do admission directly.

My son got admitted the last time JAMB did admission directly.

The previous year, this same boy was denied admission with the same JAMB score.
The boy would still be at home but for that one-year stroke of luck.

Let JAMB take back the admission process using ICT.

That is the only way to guarantee fairness.

These rules should be stated in their brochure. Jamb and schs permit awaiting result according to brochure released by them, so why the haste in using it to eliminate some candidate?
It's either they wait till result is out or they eliminate awaiting result option for candidates

Eyah, it's so painful, she shouldn't give up, either she enrol for remedial or try next year, but the school shouldn't have close their portal when NECO results was not yet out, that's unfair.

How will a student get 300 in UTME exams and 76% in post UTME (Well above the cut off marks) and one will find it difficult to believe such student will get at least a credit in Mathematics in WAEC?

My point here is that there should be a reservation for such outstanding student. The result of Mathematics not being released at the time of admission process should not be used to access if such student should be offered admission or not.

But our educational system doesn't follow such. I feel so sorry for the little girl considering all the stress she might have gone through will preparing for all the exams.

So are we suppose to blame uni ilorin for the delayed upload of result? This is not denial of admission (in my own understanding) they failed to upload the required subject(s) if they must blame anybody it should be waec not uni ilorin

UNILORIN is not to blame. Try and apply to any school in the USA, even if your child scores 1600 in SAT, if you do not apply with all required information before closure of the Commonap or Coaliation app or any school system used for application, you are on your own. This is simply because most universities always get more applications than they can admit.

Reading through the story and as a Stakeholder in the education sector of the country, I am of the opinion that Unilorin should be blamed. The reason for this is the somewhat abnormal way of doing things in that school.

What they aim to achieve is actually lost on me. Why should a Government University conclude admission processes before the release of NECO results for instance? Why are they always in a hurry to start and end an academic year. Does that make them better than universities that always consider our children that write NECO? As far as I am concerned, this is not the case.

A time would come when an articulate and liberal minister of education would be appointed. Then we would push for the review of the current primitive activities of the university.

Just imagine.

Dont forget that each school sends their special requirements to JAMB which is in their brochure. If they didnt do that and a candidate apply awaiting results, they have no right to deny anyone admission cos of awaiting results.

That's how I scored 264 for Jamb, 70 for post utme and las Las UI no gimme admission I spiralled into depression straight up

Similarly it happened to me as well years back and I have to forego the admission.

On a serious note, the strict rule is you must have your o'level result before applying to higher institution as a requirement.

The school is not to blame.
