There is a lot of political undercurrents in this Amotekun issue. The interests from the core north are starkly against any form of regional security arrangement especially in areas down south, just like they are averse to restructuring.

The South has been subsidizing the North for several decades and they know this and they want it to go on in perpetuity. The north is actually very scared of any arrangement that will put power in the hands of regions, as it would put them at a huge economic, political and geographical disadvantage. For example, the Fulani herders are more comfortable with a federally administered security system because they know it would protect their activities. Anything regional would cut the centuries-old benefits they've always had.

However, we have to resist this status quo where mediocrity is exalted to the detriment of merit. Even as a nation, the constituent groups MUST have the latitude to chart their course to progress and develop at a pace best suited for them without others acting as deadweights. This system HAS FAILED!

They will resist it; Buhari will totally resist it. The issues around it will shape 2023. Let's see how the South West navigates these waters.
