Alpha jets are less than N2b now to buy.

Nigeria should buy six more Alpha jets and equip them for CAS and internal security. I see an ongoing requirement for 40 Alpha jets with the right sensors and ground strike ability.
That way we can preserve newer stuff like Super Tucanoes and JF 17 Block 2 for longer range, stand off attack.and higher precision strike roles

4. SILENT GRAVES

The rows of graves at the cemetery in Maiduguri tell a tale of the blood of men shed in the fight against insurgency. At the entrance is a small vault, on its walls are the names of those who have died since the COIN began.

The list is long. Inside, each grave has -an info tombstone. I keep seeing COD: GSW. What does it mean, I ask the cemetery keeper. It’s Cause of Death:Gunshot Wounds. That’s what killed many of them here. Others are IED explosion,very few of natural causes.The cemetery keeper knows something about almost everyone here.

When soldiers enter here to bury their dead, it’s a sober moment. They stare at names of friends, fellow fighters. Many wonder if one day soon, a tombstone here will carry their name, and what will be the cause of death.

5. MY NIGHT PATROL NIGHTMARE

I had travelled round the N/east in the night before, but often with many people, special preparations and reasonable security. But one day, I decided on my own, to join a "real" nighttime fighting patrol, no big names, just frontline soldiers.

I was excited- It had been an interesting day. I'd been through Gubio-Damasak down to the Walada border between Nigeria-Niger. The return leg would be a night patrol. I'd seen villages, spoken to IDPs, visited military formations, seen an artillery operation, taken pictures, and generally had a great time...

It was when we set off that reality dawned on me. We were surrounded by thick woods. There were several ambush points, and the soldiers would shoot when we approached there. My truck had a heavy mounted gun. When the shots rang out, it was like they were shooting from inside my head. I crouched in my seat, mouth dry, heart thumping.

I counted every single second. What the hell am I doing here? What if we actually make contact, and this is enemy fire? I'm gone o!! Then I thought of the soldiers riding at the back, barely protected with helmets/vests that could be destroyed with sharp ammo. Why were they using so many lightskin vehicles? How can they even sit there? This is suicide. We need more Armoured fighting vehicles. My heart is shaking. We are driving blind, no lights. I cant' put on my phone.

My driver is busy playing music. The melody contrasts with the bullet sounds. How long before we get back? One hour. I swallow saliva. My colleague is silent. He's a married man, I think of his wife, what will I tell her if anything happens to him? He was reluctant when I told him this would be a "just us" trip. What if he was right? I think of the soldiers again. You guys are trying, is all I imagine. Finally, the lights of home appear. But wait, we can't even get entrance immediately.

They have to confirm that no enemy followed us. It's the longest five-minute manoeuvre and then the gates open for us. I am relieved. I promise myself I will be taking a long break after this. I've known before but more than ever, I understand that confidence is not enough. Bravery is not enough, skill is not enough. Troops need better equipment, better support.

I will never forget how we almost ran into an ISWAP checkpoint at Gajiram. The reverse speed ehn. The ISWAP guys were even smiling and did not shoot at us.

We should expect the other mention by end of march, I presume. Buying light multi purpose helos in trickles and drops is far from encouraging.

No wonder Abuja feels no urgency or correct threat perception of grave dangers facing us. See VERY WRONG impression given to Buhari misleading the President that troops are well equipped, tanks full everywhere, BH AND ISWA run away afraid of mighty troops, try use sense, when you visit war zone, instead of visiting FOB trenches in stand-alone desert remote area, big man choose to visit Brigade/Div. HQ where him see plenty arrangee dey arrange equipment full ground to impress visiting VIP, "we have enough vehicles, only helicopters we lack". Truth is, does every FOB have dozen tanks and APCs? Seeing these ancient of days NA vehicles and seeing Ghana's new army vehicles, I wonder why Nigeria is blessed with oil & gas but no genius brains to use our resources well. Buhari should have followed Brenda Uji that night, and see unsafe Hilux & Landcruiser where our brothers pass through on their way to silent grave Cemetery Maiduguri final posting.

How small a country is Ghana, how many soldiers has it, so how many AFVs do they need? Ghana acts like genius doing very good army weapons procurement in peace time before war comes, avoiding export embargoes and fire brigade attitude of acquisition.

GHANA MOVES TO TANKS TO BUILD MOST MODERN ARMY IN ECOWAS WITH NEW OIL & GAS DOLLARS WEALTH

A Letter of Intent was signed in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 22 November 2019 by the Managing Director of PT Pindad Abraham Mose with the Ghana Ministry of Defence represented by Chief Director, Dr Evans A Dzikum. Ghana's Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul also in Jakarta expressed commitment in buying defence products produced by Pindad as well as collaborating on joint development of defence products after he visited PT Pindad’s production facilities and explored the Excava Amphibious amphibious excavator, Komodo 4×4 APC, Anoa 6×6 APC, and Kaplan Modern Medium Weight Tank. Managing Director of PT Pindad Abraham Mose said his company was ready to support the defence needs of Ghana including the supply of equipment, establishing maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and after-sales services including training and facilities, as well as technology transfer.
