Piers is truthful. He's personally experienced the woman's toxic social climbing. Her family gave out warnings that people thought was jealousy. In the end, it is actually true. The fact that she specifically traveled to the UK and told select people that she was looking for a rich guy, preferably Harry, then claimed she didn't know who he was, marks the height of her plotting.

Both she and her husband should've married as commoners if they didn't want the trappings of the Royal life. They wouldn't, though. They're spongers.
