A truck on Sunday rammed into a commercial bus and killed all the 12 passengers on board and the bus driver at Abuduka on Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway.

The accident was said to have occurred around 10a.m. at Abuduka Area of Surulere North Local Council Development Area of Oyo State.

Eyewitnesses said the truck lost its brake while climbing a hill and suddenly began to roll backwards. The bus in which there were 13 persons was said to have been trailing the truck very closely and the driver could not manoeuvre the bus to safety before the accident occurred.

Both the commercial bus with registration number ABJ 14XN and the truck were headed for Ilorin before the tragedy.

Eyewitnesses said all the passengers in the commercial bus lost their lives in the accident.

But the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Oyo State, Mrs. Uche Chukwurah, said officers of the organisation got to the scene of the accident shortly after it occurred and confirmed that six persons among the passengers lost their lives, while seven others were critically injured.

She said the injured victims had been taken to the hospital, while the remains of the dead had been taken to the mortuary, adding that he could not confirm whether the death toll had increased as at Sunday evening.

She said updates would be given to the public on Monday when officers of the corps got back to the hospital, where the injured passengers had been receiving medical attention.

I wonder why it is taking Federal Government decades to construct the dual carriage alternative way.

Oyo State is economically viable to Nigeria than the level of neglect it's receiving. Moreso, safety on that road is as important to the North Western Economy as Abuja - Lokoja way.

Ibadan-Oyo express way used to be like that, especially at Iroko axis but reduced by 90% after it was dualized since Obasanjo's First Tenure.

This is distressing... Living in this country is like running a gauntlet,... Death and anguish every corner..

Had a similar encounter years back around abudu hills.. Was driving several cars behind a long vehicle and all of a sudden cars ahead of me started screeching and darting out of lanes in panic. The long vehicle was rolling back and gathering momentum,jumping over multiple wedges thrown under it by the motor boy.thank God the driver was experienced and cut the steering sharply,making the vehicle cabin and the container to form a 'V ',thereby forestalling further drift.. Na that day I sabi say no be only over speed dey kill.. Even the best of drivers,na God hand everybody life dey..

What kind of country is this?

Heavy trucks are not to be followed bumper to bumper.

1. Avoid following heavy duty vehicles at close range.

2. Avoid driving beside them when driving on a road with pot holes. Something might fall on you.

3. Thirdly avoid being between two heavy duty vehicles on a highway or traffic jam, if their bake fails you will be sandwiched.

4. Keep your hands on the horn till you complete the overtake.

Be safe.
