Amen one thousand time! An increase in the tax of a commodity is an absolute in the cost of the living of it's citizens because it as well affects all other commodities. Nigeria, be wise!!!

Prices of drugs are too high. Government should please subsidize drug prices. Imagine Augmentine being sold for 4k.

Broaden your tax base by getting more taxpayers into the tax net instead of increment in VAT rates
Do both but make exceptions for critical items. It's a chicken and egg situation; tax and develop or develop and then tax? How is the second possible?

I know you will say there are huge leakage and uneccessary government expenditure but even in the corporate world do executive directors ever take a hit when financial performance dips? Who gets sacked and cut? Is it fair? No but is it reality? Yes.

People are not complaining and will not say anything because the president will not take a kobo from the Nigerian common wealth. Have you noticed the trend that he increased the fuel (despite failed promises on subsidy) without any protest not even acclaimed Ebora owu (the thief and chief letter writer of Nigeria in person of OBJ) can go away with all what PMB has got away with.
The moral lesson is protect your integrity and people will trust to even 'ruin' and run their lifes as you wish. Sai BaBa!

The producers of those items will be paying 7% for all the production inputs that makes up the items.
This govt is akin to a tailor given the job of furniture making

The truth is that they have lots of anti-people policies at hand. They are just 'releasing' them in bits so that the frustration doesn't kill us all at once.
And they have a bunch of BMC people on N30k salary to do propaganda for them as the shuffering and shmiling continues ad infintum.

Revealed: How Buhari Budgeted N39 billion for Propaganda

In a bid to launder his already battered image, President Muhammadu Buhari has allocated a whooping sum of N39 billion in the 2016 budget to the Ministry of Information and Culture, a sum higher than the paltry N29 billion allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture.

This is a direct inverse of the 2015 budget, where Former President Goodluck Jonathan allocated the sum of N23 billion to Ministry of Information and N39 billion to the Agricultural Ministry.

The meager allocation to the Agricultural ministry has left political stakeholders wondering if the present administration aims at diversifying the economy or thriving on propaganda.

Buhari had in August, 2015 stated that Nigerians must stop paying mere lip service to agriculture, as crude oil and gas exports will no longer be sufficient as the country’s major revenue earner.

“It’s time to go back to the land. We must face the reality that the petroleum we had depended on for so long will no longer suffice. We campaigned heavily on agriculture, and we are ready to assist as many want to go into agricultural ventures,’’ Buhari stated.

However investigations by Post Nigeria revealed that Buhari’s words did not match his action following the lean budgetary provision for Agriculture.

Good one
Interesting.
Table water, bread among others has ingredients to produce them.
Table water needs polythene compound, filteration(de-salinization) equipment among others.
In Bread production, butter, polythene, oven among others.
The ingredient items mentioned above, oven, filteration, among others are not exempted from the tax increase.
The companies should not transfer the increase to the end product, in this case, bread and table water.
In your opinion, the increase is good.
Dude, you need to use your brain and be smart.

85% to Local government...?

Guess the Ministry of Finance didn't think this one all through. Why 85% to Local Governments?

Why not

10% to Disability care
10% to senior citizens social care
15% to Entrepreneur business startups to provide more jobs.

Remaining 50% LGA

Please don't try to twist the news at all time. 200,000 people for Npower time are due for the program they've been there for about 2yrs. And New people are supposed to be enrolled.

I don't support any VAT from the APC. If all Nigerians pay tax the money will soon enter voice mail because of corruption. Both Apc and pdp are the same. Any Government who refuses to push for a death Penalty for Corruption is useless and won't make any impact.

That has been my take on this issue, there are many organisation that are not in the tax net,why not go for them instead of increasing the percentage.

But FG should know how this country works by now, you increase is you increase generally, everybody takes advantage. Price goes up, never comes down.

The right thing to have put out there is list of goods that the vat is increased and not increase vat openly.

It's a welcome development but the issue is how will the government protect this money from being embezzled,
I fear for the systems when buhari leaves office,I hope he passes some strict bills into law to prevent corruption in all government parastatals before he leaves, else, there won't be any positive changes in all this after he left.
Everybody is corrupt,it's the consequences that will prevent us from delving on to such act,
Death penalty is too harsh though.
