My advice for you is to be more focus in the new course you want to study.

You know how your dad will feel having spent so much money on you with the calculations that in the next 2 yrs it will be over.

It's not easy with parents. It costs so much to train a child.

Nevertheless, it's expedient to express your frustrations before it becomes disastrous.

He's your father, he will definitely be dejected but he won't disown you. Go through your mum or any of your siblings that is close to him.

You should however be more serious and learn from your experience.

I want to believe that at the end the family will be happy for you again.

All the best.
thank you sir..

If you back out in that course, you are a failure! Who told you, you cannot do it? Bro double your walk!

I was 21 when I withdrew from school too because I was doing a course I didn't like, that was in 300level. I am currently enjoying my new course now without doubt.... I did it, you can too... just believe in yourself and stay away from negative people
so did you wrote jamb and got admission or you withdrew before writing jamb?

Sorry oh, this your post is somehow.
You didn't give us much details. How do you want us to help you?
Also, you could have asked this question before thinking of withdrawal.

Your sense of reasoning is beneath me, Even if this is sarcasm its is very disgusting to the eyes, why can't you use your sense of reasoning before spewing rubbish to this post, am sure you did more poorly than him with this jacked up statement.

Take a hike dummy. angry

In Kolawole Olawuyi voice "Ha Nkan nbe"

I think this is the right time to open up to your father and discuss your incompetency toward your course. The more you delay the more problems it caused. Take the bull by the horn now

To make it to be more alike with the way its sound when Kolawole Olawuyi says it, put a comma after the "Ha", like this "Ha, Nkan nbe". grin

calculations different from calculations... You can't compare word problems to calculus
calculus simple oh. It's even simpler than you think. May be because I learnt it in secondary school.

not everyone is good with calculations,no matter how hard they try.
That is why some secondary schools do exams to separate students based on their brain and subject strength in jss3.
Everyone has their area of strength.....
If calculations is not his thing, trying to teach him how to go about it now is a bit late..... U master it well at primary or secondary school.
you are right.

Your dad may be angry, disappointed, mad, but certainly won't disown or kill you. Call him, tell him everything and the struggles you have endured all this while. Trust me, after the initial tantrums he may put up, eventually he will support and assist you. Just be sure your decision is something you are ready to commit to.

Sometimes the greatest decisions requires the strongest will.

I apologize for the long post... So the thing is, I am 22 years old currently in 200 level. My performance is very poor, in fact I'm currently on probation(I'm suppose to be in 300 level by now) and that's not because I'm not intelligent or I'm dull o. it's just that i don't show commitment towards my studies because I've completely lost interest in the course I'm currently studying because of its calculation aspect. I hate calculations a lot. Let me say, I'm more of a theory person. I have tried applying for change of course but i was denied maybe because of my poor performance. My Father doesn't know anything about this. "no issues at all Daddy, my result is good", my response whenever he asked me about my result.

So i have finally decided to apply for withdrawal from my current school to register and sit for jamb again. This time i will apply for a course in a different institution. This course in question is a course I've wanted to study long ago but my current school don't offer it. My friend studies it and I've done research on the course my self. I'm very sure i can do it this time.

Now i don't even know how to approach my father with this. I know I've fvcked up big time. The man will be so so annoyed and disappointed in me but i can't continue like this, i want to get things on track, i want to fix my life and start afresh. Right now I'm just confused and frustrated. Nairalanders, i will need your advice and suggestions. Please what's your take on this?

Hello bro,
1. I support your decision of writing another JAMB, so that you wont be ashamed when people ask about your result in future.

2. What is the assurance that you will be giving your desired course of study after this jamb?

3. I will advise you to change your mindset about course of study and just try to put in your best in anywhere you find yourself.

4. Talk to your father and I know he will hear you out. Regards.

I support your advice [b/]but why did he accept a course he knew he can't cope with?[b] Accepting to study the course was the beginning of your problem. I just pray your father will give u another opportunity to make things right this time. Best wishes.
When you blood is boiling and you just need to get into University!

To the topic, not everyone can have interest in something they don't like, like me, if my mind it's not there, it's not there, I can't pretend about it.
OP has already moved on from his current course of study, he can't program himself to like the course again. Even if he writes an exam or he's preparing for one, his thoughts will always be elsewhere. It's just mindset
I wished it was possible for him to do inter faculty transfer.
Please tell your dad, after everything, you'll still remain his child. "Not to have tried" is the real failure. I wish you well bro.

First of probation is like a blessing in disguise cause it's a second chance to do better.. you are not dull you don't just like the course that is one of the Why not transfer instead of taking the risk of taking another jamb .... Admission nowadays is something else

What is the course that has these calculations that you don't like?

details like?

What you are currently studying and what you are planning on switching to

I used to be like you, I used to be in science class and wanted to become a doctor or an engineer but I was really poor in mathematical equations.

I voiced out to my school counselor in ss2 second term (We were close to our mid term break) and she suggested that I follow my heart and changed to art class.

I may not be where I want to be yet, but at least I am happy studying my preferred course and I know your case is slightly different from mine since you are already in 200 level.

All I'll say is follow your heart, do what makes you feel happy.

Depression is not good because you are obviously worried about your current situation. Talk to God in prayers and he'll guide you through everything.

It's well

I would advice you to obtain Jamb form without telling him, then you can probably inform him when you have been given admission. be sure you have been given admission before you tell him anything

Please follow your heart ,some people are just not good with calculations ,i suspect you studying economics, let me give you a true ,my friend Deji was studying medicine in OAU because his father wanted him to be a doctor ,he started struggling in the second year ,by the third year he had to transfer to FST,still he was finding life difficult ,finally he followed his passion for writing so he transferred to Unilag to study journalism ,today he's an accomplished journalist for BBC AFRICA

So u mean all ur stuffs are calculations?? What course are u currently studying? Even at then, my brother fix ur mind and tell urself u can do it believe you will. To be sincere if i b ur papa u don go school finish b that ooooh.imagine that u're in a school like AAU after all the school, fees, rentage, allowances e.t.c.
I was ones like u running away from calculations, but along the line i have to tell myself that ppl are doing it so i can do it. I used my hand to fill for accounting and behold self determination i did it and discovered that the best tin that can happen is to face ur fears and not run..focus and do it meet coursemates that can help u out. U can do it.

One thing I learnt in life is,there are people who are facing the same exact problem you’re facing. So don’t feel your problem is unique and worst then you begin to beat your emotions because of the problem you can’t solve at that moment.instead sit down evaluate everything and seek advice on which step to take next.
Finish the course in hand regardless of what you graduate with then go ahead and apply for your preferred course if there’s enough cash and support from dad and maybe family members.
Your story is accurately similar to mine.
Chemistry! I treated chemistry with laxity because I’ve always hated it but I began to enjoy it in my finals. Life is just too unpredictable for us at times.
