Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended Solomon Peters, who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Miss Patience Zakari, to death in Bauchi following a disagreement over telephone call.

Police Public Relations Officer in charge of Bauchi Command, DSP Kamal Abubakar, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi that the suspect was arrested on Sunday in a yet to be disclosed location.

“The Bauchi state police command, after swinging into action following the killing of Miss Patience Zakari, has apprehended the suspect, whose name is Solomon Peters.

“He is now in our custody and currently undergoing interrogations by our officers.

“He will be thoroughly investigated and charged to court for culpable homicide,” said the PPRO

Tragedy struck in Bauchi on Friday when a jealous man, simply identified as ‘Solomon’ stabbed his girlfriend, Patience Zakkari, to death for picking a phone call from another man.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent reports that the incident occurred around 1.30 am in the house of the deceased located at gwallameji area of Bauchi metropolis.

Narrating to NAN how it happened, a source who pleaded anonymity recounted how the deceased narrated the incident to him before she gave up the ghost.

He explained that the deceased and her boyfriend (Solomon) who were popularly known to be in a romantic relationship by most people in the area, had a heated argument when the deceased received a phone call from a male friend in the middle of the night.

“She narrated to me before she died that everything happened at about 1:30 am on Friday morning.

“She said she received a phone call from just an ordinary male friend and her boyfriend (Solomon) got jealous, started harassing her verbally, and that as she was trying to explain to him, he pounced on her and started hitting her.

“She took a bottle, hit him on the head in self defence because the beating was too much for her, and the man picked up a knife in response and stabbed her at the back.

“She said she lost a lot of blood before she was rushed to a clinic in the morning where she was treated and brought back home in the evening, when she narrated the incident to me.

“Unfortunately, when I left the place, I heard that the wound degenerated and she was rushed to a hospital where she eventually gave up,” narrated the source.

Another source, Mercy Cirfat, told NAN that Solomon, who was living two blocks away from his girlfriend’s, had taken to his heels after carrying out the heinous act, and is now at large.

She said that the deceased was a National Diploma (ND) graduate from the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.

DSP Kamal Abubakar, the state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident to NAN, adding that the owner of the clinic where she died, had been arrested.

He also assured that the command was on the trail of the culprit and would soon be apprehended to face the wrath of the law.

“I can confirm to you that the incident is true; we got the information from a good samaritan that this was what happened in Gwallameji.

“When the incident happened, without informing the police, her friends took her to a clinic for treatment because the boyfriend stabbed her twice.

“However, the clinic also treated her without informing the police and discharged her the same day.

“When the thing became worse, they took her back to the clinic where she was put on a drip and eventually gave up.

“We have arrested the owner of the clinic and the staff that treated her because they did not inform the police.

“We have swung into action and the case is under investigation; we are on the trail of the suspect and anybody involved; they will all be brought to justice,” said the PPRO. (NAN)

“ We have arrested the owner of the clinic and the staff that treated her because they did not inform the police."

If am not mistaken, Nigeria government passed law on " Life First " before Police report a while ago. The NP should leave the owner of the clinic so this won't send wrong signal to other clinic in the state.

Pls who understands this statement?

Is that really what the law says?

As in, when a case of emergency comes up, I should start going to the police station first to get permission, then when it is granted, I can start coming back to attend to the case.

I think such is applicable to only gunshots when it is not life threatening.

You arrested the owner of the clinic for not informing the police. Is police supposed to treat the victim Has the IG not told the police to allow hospitals or clinics to treat accident victims before getting police report

See the reasons why many hospitals or clinic don't like to treat accident victims angry The police go after the professional life saver instead of going after the culprit.

Many accident victims had died needlessly because of their unprofessional conducts.

I was just about to say this, but on the other hand, they should have reported the case to the police as well because it shows the hospital did not properly check the level of damage done by be stabbings. Perhaps they just applied bandage and covering the wounds. There would have been an internal injury which abruptly ended the lady's life.

You're right but who knows if the clinic only offer first aid treatment and asked them to take her to a good hospital for comprehensive treatment and instead they took her home.

God knows the best but i still blame the jealous boyfriend.

This will only worsen the issue of hospitals abandoning victims to die because they don't have police reports. To be honest, that requirement is barbaric and makes no sense. In saner climes, everyone, including criminals are treated or at the very least, stabilized first and then handed over to appropriate government agencies if need be.

I know your response is based on my last sentence in which I erroneously omitted the keyword thereby turning it to the exact opposite of what I actually meant.

It should have read

I have modified accordingly. wink

And how would reporting to the police address the extent of damage? Is the police equipped with facilities to detect the extent of the damage?

Note, I'm not saying the matter shouldn't be reported to the police, but that is not the responsibility of the hospital at that moment because they were making efforts to save her life. That should have been done by her family members or friends.

This is a sad story that also portrays the audacity of cheating in Nigeria's womanfolk of today.

What happened to not receiving inappropriate calls in front of your lover?
If you must cheat, cheat with pure wisdom and some respect to who you are cheating on.

Poor boy must have lost his mind to see he had been pushed into the sissyzone.
This does not in anyway justify his actions.

Murder under any guise is wrong.
But a heart is not a brain and that's what's the craziest about falling in love.
You do stupid things for the ones you love.

I pray jailtime corrects this irreversible problem that love has caused him.

This is the reason why a promising young lady lost her life in Lagos after she was attacked by arm robbers, she was not attended to because they couldn't produce a police report.
