A well deserved win to Kidjo.
The content of her songs are out of this world. She is a mix of Maya Angelou and Miriam Makeba.

Music lovers and genuine content critics like myself would have given up on the credibility and essence of the Grammy Awards if another undeserving artiste had won this.

Sentiments aside, Nigeria is yet to replicate another Fela Kuti in the global music sphere.
Fela is the only Nigerian deserving of a Grammy.

Because music is not about dancesteps or groupie trends but about a movement, a message, reawakening a consciousness and yet the melody.
This is a reality lost on today's Nigerian artistes aside from Asa who lacks in consistency.

Till your music can be accepted by Pastors, Imams, Youths, elders, global leaders, United Nations and illiterates, then you stand a chance of being an African Album or winning a foreign award in Music.

Nigeria and Nigerians must understand that club bangers do not translate to foreign awards in global music.

I don't agree totally with you Captain, put away sentiment, Burna Boy should have won that category and for Kidjo to acknowledge that meant he was so deserving as well . He had more recognition in the whole of Africa this past year than any other musician .
What about 2face Idibia? He was Africa's best at a time, his globally acclaimed African Queen was even sampled in a Hollywood movie.
If you say music is not about groupie trends , then the likes of Lady Gaga shouldn't have walk through that stage in admiration.

This is wrong. Beyoncé, Eminem, MJ's 'Thriller', Taylor Swift's '1989', and even Jay Z have all won the Grammy Album of the year award.

Most of the songs on their albums are club bangers, and widely accepted by younger generations. I can't imagine any of Jay Z's, and Eminem songs that will will be accepted by religious leaders.

Most educated folks don't even understand Eminem's raps because he is always dissing the world and lacing his materials with double and triple entendres.

The category is much more beyond acceptability and the class or category of people your album resonate with. Kidjo will still return and win another next year as always.

Nice counter-post. I wonder how many of Jay Z's songs can be played in a church.

We wish Burna all the best in future attempts.

Burna Boy, don't give up, keep working and add more African flavours to your music.

I wasn't expecting burna boy to win it. That woman is the definition of good music. Even Asa has upper hand than burna boy but she keeps going on exile with her talent.

Mentioning Eminem in that list, just show that you don't know him or understand Eminem like you said. Please don't drag that legend into this shit.

we the talk of world category not Africa category. Kidjo was no6 in World album category. Excellent 2019. She is a legend. She recognised burna because both are Africa.and burna also respect her a lot. 9ja music are mere Banga for club and to cash out. After then nothing

Well said, I thought I was the only one who knew this fact that Nigerian music is still asleep. Lol all we have these days are beats with no lyrics or message.
One of the reasons I don't have Nigerian songs on my playlist, except gospel. It's all about the beats to us, more reason people like Naira Marley and co are being celebrated.

When Nigerians see Angelique Kidjo on the road undecided
In reality some Nigerians will be happy he lost because of envy, tribalism, religious difference etc(once you are successful many will pretend to love you and the same goes for the opposite) but many don't even know we have 6 Nigerians who have won Grammy in different categories in the past https://m.guardian.ng/life/six-nigerians-that-have-won-grammy-awards/

Burna boy how did you expect to beat kidjo?
That woman is in a world of her own.
Listen to the album CELIA.
Sang in Spanish, french, Benin language. Deep vocals used local drums to get the Cuban salsa beats and dance steps.
All songs in that album was fantastic.
She is afro beat Queen.

What is wrong with Nigerians sef? If you say you’re a musician sit down, create, sing songs as if to be heard for decades..! Nobody will win anything until we change the narratives otherwise mediocrity will continue to prevail in our music space!!
Re: Grammy Awards: Burna Boy Loses To Angelique Kidjo by Emilokoiyawon: 6:54am On Jan 27, 2020
Angelique Kidjo father is from Iseyin in Oyo state. And her mother is from Abeokuta. So its still a win win for Nigeria.

Burna we are still proud of you. Thanks for playing your part in keeping Fela spirit alive.
