The content of her songs are out of this world. She is a mix of Maya Angelou and Miriam Makeba.

Music lovers and genuine content critics like myself would have given up on the credibility and essence of the Grammy Awards if another undeserving artiste had won this.

Sentiments aside, Nigeria is yet to replicate another Fela Kuti in the global music sphere.

Fela is the only Nigerian deserving of a Grammy.
Because music is not about dancesteps or groupie trends but about a movement, a message, reawakening a consciousness and yet the melody from real musical instruments.
This is a reality lost on today's Nigerian artistes aside from Asá who still lacks in consistency.

As an African act, till your music can be accepted by Pastors, Imams, Youths, elders, global leaders, United Nations and illiterates, then you stand a chance of being an African Album or winning a foreign award in Music.

Nigeria and Nigerians must understand that club bangers do not translate to foreign awards in global music.

Greatness begets greatness

I remember far back in 2013 when Angelique kidjo featured Asa in her melodious album 'Eva' which celebrated the pride, strength, and smile that masks everyday troubles faced by African women.

The album had a wide array of African languages, Fon, Yoruba, Goun, Mina etc


Asa also is doing greatly in her own way and she still very much portrays the Yoruba culture to France and the world. Her recent Album 'Lucid' has a good blend of fine sounds that carries messages.
'Happy People' which celebrates the resilient nature of Nigerian women irrespective of odds is one of my favorite.


Congratulations to both Angelique and Burna boy, they both are African giants.

I actually came to this thread for someone to mention ASA ,thanks for this one , in due time ASA is going places .
such proficiency and dedication to her culture and music styles I honestly thought we would never get a female brymo but ASA just took the mantle as soon as she came on board , she is in a place where people actually can appreciate her kind of music it sucks that we do not in sane climate Many of our artistes won't even think of a record deal with the crap they throw out in the studio .

He should go and listen to 'edge of glory'. Imagine a popsong dt sounds like a lovesong but was actually written about being wt a loved one at their deathbed. She is so deep. Dt shallow album after sweeping Grammy last year, still won another award yesterday o.

We are talking about an artiste dt almost all her songs gives u goose pimples. Even a random dance song like 'bad romance' get lyrical depth and vocal dexterity. Lets not even talk live performance. Dt guy na ode.

I know Nigerian music videos are all about naked girls these days, not only 9ja vids ohh, world over, it's now display of nudity, haven't been a tv person for the past couple of years now but I really don't think I've seen any of burna's video so I can't say but somehow that his last album had some couple of good songs
