My Experience At The Police Station Today. by Idonweak: 1:42pm On Jan 27, 2020
Good day to you all. Hope you are all doing good? So on the 25th of this month, my phone (Redmi note 8 pro) was stolen from me at the Berger bus stop by the conductor of the bus I boarded to ketu(i figured out after it happened). And I have been looking for means to track and people told me to visit the nearest police station. Today, I decided to visit the station close by. When I get there i met two police women and a police man at the counter. The woman quickly asked me what I came for and I narrated my predicament to her. She said I will pay 5k for police report. I negotiated and we agreed on 3k. I also bought a recharge card for her. Then she said since I don't know the bus number, that the phone will be tracked and I will pay a sum of 30k. She told me that the tracking will be done at Abuja. I pleaded with her to reduce the amount. She reduce the amount to 25k saying I will pay 20k first and 5k when my phone I Is seen. Then she gave me her phone number and collected mine too. Right now, I don't have up to that amount. And even if I can get money, how am I sure that my phone will be recover?

Please nairalanders advice me on what to do. This phone is still very new. I bought on Jan 10 for 90k and I really want to get it back because I used all my savings from December to January to purchase that phone.

Forget about the phone or report case to another police station if you still believe police is your friend.

Your phone can be tracked by the police but the money they are asking is way too much.

Should they even ask for money in the first place??

It's true that they track phones. A similar thing happened to me some years back when my Redmi note 3 was stolen. I payed 20k and it was tracked within 24 hours. I was called to SARS office here in Abuja to see the idiot and confirm if it was my phone. They caught 2 guys: the guy that stole it and the one he sold it to. Fortunately for me, they tried but couldn't flash the phone. You just need to provide them with the IMEI number and they'll do the rest. But I suggest you get a high ranking and responsible police officer to "have your back", just in case. Good luck bro, and accept my sympathy. Believe me, I know how it feels.

Don't fall victim of stolen phone, sell with confidence and buy with assurance.

• Register the laptop meant for sale in the portal
• At point of sale, you can transfer ownership to the buyer; the portal will keep the evidence of the ownership transfer between the two parties.
• Neither party can deny the asset transfer transaction; because this transfer record will always show up any time the particular asset history is viewed when searched by anyone.
• myAssetLookup search will prevent you from becoming an accomplice in stolen goods cases as the searched asset ownership and status history will be made available.

For free, register and transfer ownership using https://portal.myAssetlookup.com

Any case weh join you with police, money must commot.

Police men are the biggest criminals in 9ja. They'll extort every penny from you at the slightest opportunity.

I fear police walai.

Do a video of the situation and send it to various social media platforms, help might come.

Even if you must pay, it normally shouldn't be above 5k cos it's government equipments they'll use to track the phone.

Imagine someone using FG's equipments like it's his personal property.

9ja why?

I haven't gone back as I'm still skeptical about it. I don't want to lose in two ways.

Lalasticala please just help me push this to the front page. Maybe i can get the opinions of people who have had similar experience.

Op pele, this was my experience with police when my WhatsApp was hacked and I went to report.

At the police station, I met three officers at the counter. After greeting with all the humility I could muster, I explained my ordeal to them, they patiently listened to the end then the eldest (not most senior o.) of them said "oga we no understand di grammar wey you dey speak, come make I show you person wey go understand you". He then lifted the barrier, I muttered a short prayer and went behind the counter to one of the offices.

In the surviellance office I was handed over to two officers, a young guy and one aunty. I greeted again and was offered a seat, I sat down and narrated the story as before, aunty now asked me "so what do you want the police to do?" I replied that I want to file a complaint incase those guys use my number to commit fraud. Aunty said ok, it will cost me three thousand pere.

For the next few minutes nobody spoke, after regaining composure I turned and looked aunty in the eye without blinking and said "mummy please help your son, I know that you people are doing a great and dangerous job to keep us safe and everyone should show appreciation but I am jobless and koboless, please let those bad boys not put your son in trouble".
Then I stood up and emptied my pockets for them to see.

Aunty now mummy said "you don't have anything but look at the phone you are using"( Tecno Pop 2).After about 30 minutes of scolding/advice, I was given a sheet of paper and guided to write my statement. I finished writing, read it to their hearing signed and gave them to file it. I thanked them profusely and left. I spent roughly two hours with them. This is the summary of what happened.

Re: My Experience At The Police Station Today. by DaCharis2016: 1:26pm On Jan 30, 2020
Go to SARS office, it's SARS job as they would forward it to Abuja for tracking. When I attempted tracking mine, was billed minimum of N15,000. But I let it go coz the phone value wasn't worth it except I will have the perpetrators pay me for damages and cost.

NB: Make sure u have an evidence of ur negotiation with them.
