By the way, this practice of stealing public infrastructure is not new. I remember reading a very interesting story in the newspaper c1989. NEPA cable thieves were arrested by masqueraders on Lagos Island.

The thieves were stealing cables near Tinubu Square in the middle of the night when the masqueraders (I can't remember for sure, but I think they were Oro masquerades) apprehended them. They were handed over to the police in the morning.

You might have noticed that the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge has concrete railings. One of the reasons for this is to prevent thieves from stealing the railings and selling them as scrap metal.

Might be his hatred for Tinubu. And because Sanwo-olu has a close relationship with Tinubu, he shares the hatred too on Mr. Governor who has done nothing really wrong so far.

It's very sickening when you read statements of people trying to discredit the efforts of the LASG just because of Tinubu who's more concerned about national ambitions presently than LASG affairs.

My diary entry for December 7th, 2019.

naptu2:
Something really bad happened this morning. Thank God that it wasn't much worse.

I got off the bridge at the Ikoyi end and there was a man that was running in front of me. The man accidently stepped on one of the tyres above the manholes and he went down.

Thank God that he didn't fall in completely and thank God also that he wasn't terribly hurt. He was on the ground for a while until I and some other people helped him up.

People have been stealing the manhole covers at the Alexander Avenue Roundabout for a while. The covers are often replaced and then these criminals steal them again. So, right now, it seems that the government has gotten tired of replacing them and in order to prevent people from falling in, some people have placed tyres over the manholes to alert members of the public of the danger.

Yet those things are still a hazard.

The criminals do not steal the manhole covers on the bridge or the ones at the Lekki end of the bridge, but for some strange reason they keep stealing the covers at the Alexander Avenue Roundabout.

Learn to read properly everything available to you before rushing into judgement that only embarrasses you.
Right here on this thread I posted the below:

If China and Singapore can change the crude behaviour of their people, why not us? India is also on its way doing the same thing.

I passed through River Niger at Jebba yesterday at night all the manholes on the bridge are already gone. With high speed, no street light n competition for survival with heavy trucks.

For quite a long time Lagosians have complained about the problem of open manholes. These holes have caused many car accidents and deaths in Lagos. For example, look at this 2017 thread.

I saw a jogger fall into one of those open holes on Alexander Avenue in Ikoyi last year. Luckily he was not seriously injured. We all remember the sad story of Adewura Bello, a young woman who was involved in a motorcycle accident on a flooded street and who was subsequently carried by floodwaters into an open manhole where she drowned (see link below).

These manhole covers, along with bridge railings and electrical cables, are often stolen by criminals who sell them as scrap metals. For example, see this thread below:

Amuwo Odofin Task Force Arrests Manhole Cover Thieves
https://www.nairaland.com/5499284/amuwo-odofin-task-force-arrests

Governor Babatunde Fashola considered using concrete manhole covers because the theft of these covers had gotten out of hand.

The Lagos State Government is currently replacing manhole covers across the state and they replaced the missing manhole covers on Eko Bridge yesterday. The question is, how will they ensure that these new covers are not stolen?
Na all this Fulani boys dey thiefam. I hate them with all my strength.

I can't understand the people that are saying that this shouldn't be news. You mean a problem that has cost us human lives, that has injured many, that has destroyed shock absorbers and that is also costing tax payers a lot of money should not be news??

Maybe they didn't read the post and are just reacting to the headline.
