For quite a long time Lagosians have complained about the problem of open manholes. These holes have caused many car accidents and deaths in Lagos. For example, look at this 2017 thread.

I saw a jogger fall into one of those open holes on Alexander Avenue in Ikoyi last year. Luckily he was not seriously injured. We all remember the sad story of Adewura Bello, a young woman who was involved in a motorcycle accident on a flooded street and who was subsequently carried by floodwaters into an open manhole where she drowned (see link below).

These manhole covers, along with bridge railings and electrical cables, are often stolen by criminals who sell them as scrap metals. For example, see this thread below:

Amuwo Odofin Task Force Arrests Manhole Cover Thieves

Governor Babatunde Fashola considered using concrete manhole covers because the theft of these covers had gotten out of hand.

The Lagos State Government is currently replacing manhole covers across the state and they replaced the missing manhole covers on Eko Bridge yesterday. The question is, how will they ensure that these new covers are not stolen?

Education for everyone and enlightenment on civic responsibilities consistently coupled with exemplary behaviour by the leaders - religious & political.
If China and Singapore can change the crude behaviour of their people, why not us? India is also on its way doing the same thing.

If not for our backwardness, why will they be removing a man hole cover, something that can lead to a major accident or we now need security to be watching over man hole cover again

Is this a joke? A state government replacing manhole is making news. Just like saying I paid my child's lesson fee and taking glory for it.

No, we don't need security.
All we need are prayers.

Why can’t they use cement own. That would be heavy and hard to remove.

It was Darey Art Alade who did bring this to the attention of the government via a viral post three days ago. I am wondering why his name wasn't mentioned.

He did a good job with that post. Thank you, Darey. Thank you, LASG.

I see your sarcasm.

Imagine the Op said they've "replaced" instead of saying they are "replacing".

Are they supposed to take pictures of them replacing an As5-hole?

Useless & fraudulent Governor

Re: Lagos State Government Replaces Manhole Covers On Eko Bridge by naptu2: 5:43am On Jan 31, 2020
I need to add that the manhole covers that were stolen on the Alexander Avenue Roundabout were mainly made of concrete. I would say that they were around 70% concrete and 30% metal.
