Some decisions are better deliberated and all stakeholders opinion shared before pronouncing Law, Bikes and keke has been a reduced traffic stress on most Lagosians. Okada Ban wouldn't help the present traffic situation but a well structured road network would resolve the issue. God Help Lagos state God help Nigeria.

I've been trying to get my hands on that useless law that Lagos State enacted to ban Okadas.

How can you make a law that can directly impoverish millions of people in one day! If this is not pure evil I don't know what to call it. The law must be revoked! We will not stand for this deliberate act of wickedness and economic segregation.

God bless the good people of Lagos State!

Your post is senseless. Do you think you are wiser than the people who took this decision?

Do you know the rate of influx of Foreign Fulanis and Hausa from neighboring countries to Lagos every minute?
Have you consider the security threat they pose to this place?
Have you heard about Bokoharam and their plans to infiltrate Lagos?
Did you hear or read in the news how Hausa Okada riders burnt down a local govt secretariat and looted the building before burning it down?
Do you use our roads...if you do, you'd see how keke and okada riders cause unnecessary traffic jams by creating illegal lanes and taking one-way thereby causing accidents every minute.
Do you know how many hand bags are snatched by okada riders every minutes?
Do you know how many reported robbery cases done by okada riders as you read this?

The list is endless.

I hope the govt would stamp their foot this time and end the menace cause by okada and keke riders.

Okada and Keke Marwa must remain banned.

This is a tight call for the govt. due to the challenges of safety and security.
However, the govt. Should look for alternatives means to provide succor to commuters in Lagos as the traffic is getting worse by the day.

For the investors, this is a big blow for them and they need to rethink on how to go about it. Nigeria is just a funny place to invest as you never can tell what policy would affect your business the next day. 7.5VAT implementation commences tomorrow and will most likely affect some businesses.

Which investors are you talking about? I do not regard rideshare or Okada-rideshare companies as investors. Do they really invest any money in the economy? No.

All they do is pay a fee to the government and open an office, do little advertisement. They don't buy or own any equipment or vehicle of their own. It is people vehicles/Okada and time that make money for them. In fact, I prefer that this industry should be open only to Nigerian companies or investors. No foreigners. Once they make their money, they repatriate the scarce foreign currency to their home countries. They are having a easy ride here.

This Okada is their only means of survival, to ban them from operating it on the major areas where they get lots of passengers on dailybasis, then provide them other means of making money else face high level of armed robbery , banditry and other crimes.

You are ignorant of business best practises.
This advice can save you millions in the future.
Never equate an official friendliness with government law or policy.
Even if Sanwo-Olu is seen advertising for GoKada, that doesn't mean sht.
Such companies will do well to get real legal protection in place.

Snapping pictures with helmet means nothing as far as a state law
or government policy is concerned.

Lagos neither approves nor register Okada business.

It's clear that you're just a scared, misinformed person running your mouth on nairaland. You do not know anything about keke and okada riders. Most of the people driving kekes are either Yorubas or Igbos and many people who drive okadas are Nigerians (Hausa,Igbo,Yoruba) struggling to eke out a living for themselves.

Yes, many of them drive recklessly but is that good enough reason to ban them? Think!

I know many people who have used Okada riding to train their kids through school and are still using it to survive presently. Yes, you may not like the sight of people driving Okadas or Kekes in tattered clothes but these are petty jobs that help to reduce crime rate in Lagos.

These people must eat!

Throwing the baby and bathwater away is not the way to go.. we all agree Okada should be banned across lagos sef cause of those class of riders who kill and maim without value for lives .agreed they have flooded lagos and need to be cut.. but in doing that lets adopt the Gokada and Max Option NOT OPAY OO..

Gokada and Max do extensive KYC before bikes are handed down to riders .they have all their papers and follow traffic regulations as a user i know .. Opay on the other hand are terrible they dnt follow KYC and drive rough.. ban OPAY or have them follow a stricter process for onboarding.

Trust me Aboki can never get a Gokada Bike or Max Bike cause they cant meet the requirements
...more reason their ban
The powers that be won't tolerate Aboki being screened they would rather pull down the okada bizness model
Disfranchised the northerners at your peril
Won't be surprised the Lagos state government was ordered by the northern elite

Re: Okada Ban: Gokada, Max Riders, Others Protest In Lagos by Grace001: 4:00pm On Jan 31, 2020
Instead of banning these okada riders why can't the government create their own ride-way. You can see a lot of commercial bike riders in Countries like Benin (Cotonou), Togo (Lome) etc their government make ride-ways for commercial bike riders in some areas . Lagos transportation system is bad, that's the issue. They have no idea how many guys they are going to render unproductive.

In my opinion, I believe they should be regulated. The only thing is that, there must be strict guidelines on accomodating bike riders in the org and strict compliance to traffic rules

Are you for real?
People have being going to work eve before the advent of okada and marwa keke. pls do away with them already.
Their disadvantage to the society far outweighs their advantage.

Go to emergency units at the hospitals to really see what i mean. im certain you won't have the moral confidence and justification to support them after seeing dangling legs, broken skulls and arms that have bn separated from the shoulder sockets.

Okada and Marwa keke remain banned.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.
