According to Oxfords dictionary; Career is stated to be an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress.


While Job is stated to be a paid position of regular employment. A task or piece of work, especially one that is paid. More like a piece of work, especially a specific task done as part of the routine of one's occupation or for an agreed price.

From the afore-stated definitions, they aren't the same, but just to satisfy my curiosity. I want to know--Can one successfully turn any job to a career one?

You obviously didn't get my point. You said an accountant working in an Engineering firm can't build a career. Since according to Wiki, accountant means a practitioner of accounting or accountancy, which is the measurement, disclosure or provision of assurance about financial information that helps managers, investors, tax authorities and others make decisions about allocating resource(s), I had to bring out a professional course "Finacial Engineering" an accountant can go for to help him/her build a career in an Engineering sector.
