TheMan3:Everybody cannot be favoured one must suffer for another to enjoy. I personally don't like keke people it is only Akwa ibom that I've seen the keke people have sense Enugu and Abuja keke people are foolish. They have banned keke in Abuja self good. When they were damaging peoples' cars did they remember their families. Sanwo Olu get sense self be like say I go go Lagos since the madness is leaving small small. |

Too much sense will not kill you in this life. You just addressed the issue thoroughly in few sentences. If our leaders had such good thinkers as aids Nigeria wouldn't be such a mess. bkool7: |

Lagos is tired of taking off the burden of 35 other states and the governors Only 700,000 people out of 4.5m taxable adults pay taxes in Lagos state. 2% of the population carrying the burden of 20m people. You want roads, healthcare, housing, rail then again Lagos must create alternatives which includes shelter and employment for people who troop in daily |

AngryIgboMan:I agree with you completely but the problem remains. How do I get to work tomorrow? How do I get home? My office is at Ligali Ayorinde, V.I. I usually get to Eko hotel round about then take keke to Ligali, there's no other means of transportation. Same story after work ... so how the heck am I supposed to get to work 2morrow... |

AngryIgboMan:While you made a good case for the ban of Okada and Keke and i actually agree with you to a large extent but this your statement here should never be used again. These cities you mentioned are first world cities and should not be compared to Lagos. Cities that you can put side by side with Lagos are the likes of Mumbai, Delhi, Jakarta, Karachi, Manila and the likes and this cities are light years of Lagos yet most of them still use Keke. Of course, we want our cities to look like New York and Tokyo but we do not have the human capital and resources to become these cities overnight. It takes some time and we need to be sensitive. I think the government should have bought thousands of BRT buses that will not only ply highways and major roads but inner streets. That's how it's done in countries like Mauritius. These buses will even pass the front of your house. But the buses are not even enough and you're making matters worse by banning the only source of transportation of so many people. |

daezeangel:This is exactly the issue. The distance is actually about a kilometer. The road is good and it’s safe. TREK! Lagos is tired of millions of your trooping into the state from the other 35 states |

samtol4:Interestingly, there are many other jobs but people don't want to learn. Mechanics struggle to find apprentices. Same with carpenters. Have you noticed a scarcity of trained artisans in Lagos? They all took a path of least resistance. Acquire a bike and hit the road and start making money. This is also due to government failure in providing alternatives. The private sector filled the gap. I believe those that will live Lagos will live. It's also a huge failure on Northern leadership. A good percentage run from poverty to greener pastures due to a lack of general education in the north. One of the result is this Okada menace. Small small, we don dey restructure. Northern leadership would have to tighten their belt and improve the lives of many people. Let's observe the crime rate trend because I expect an initial increase. |

I visited Lagos several months ago and my conclusion after the trip was that there was no governing authority in the state based on the level of chaos and disorder that I saw. I was born in Lagos myself and I spent my entire childhood and adult life there until the late 90s. I will be visiting again in some weeks and I am looking forward to the trip based on the expectations that some level of sanity would prevail this time. The level of madness of Okada and Tricycles riders at the airport road/Ajao estate intersection is from another world. As one try to avoid oncoming vehicles, okada and Tricycles would be coming at you from different direction. It's a bad deal and an eyesore for all the hotels in that area. Hope this will last for good. |

AngryIgboMan:You have valid points. But as an Economist when I see people compare Nigeria (underdeveloped country) to very developed countries like Japan, I laugh in Swahili. My goodness, Japan has the least unemployment rates in the world, most income distributive country with almost 100 percent literacy level. and poverty rate is almost near zero. You are totally ignorant bro. These statistics play enormous role in any country. Therefore when making policy, peculiarity should be taken into cognizance. Think about the literacy rate in Nigeria which is not up to 30%, so people tend to act like idiots. High poverty rate which makes people do all sorts of menial jobs to survive. soon they will begin riding tyres in the streets of Lagos, like we did when we were kids, just because they are jobless. lol When it comes to income distribution in Nigeria, my goodness the gap between the poor and the rich is so so wide and yet the govt dont make any policy to close this gap rather they want to wipe out these poor people who make up 90 percent of the population, what idiocy. You chase them out of Lagos, fine, they relocate or re-strategise to come back to constitute nuisance in another level. Go to VI and Lekki, they roam the streets or put up shanties and they become another threat to those rich trying to chase them away. Mind you, a rich man will never know peace in the midst of very poor people. There comes a time when these poor you chase away cant take it anymore, they revolt and attack the rich, its called revolution. You think heaven will not fall when you chase them away, but you havent solved the problem. Has there been a time in. Nigeria history that crime has risen to this level? They kill, rape, kidnap and attack people with reckless abandon in all corners of the state. These are the Okada and Keke you chased away coming after the rich. The solution is not banning Okada nor Keke, The solution lies in banning unemployment and chasing away poverty, not banning and chasing okada and keke away. When people have decent jobs to do and poverty is low, my brother the nuisance will stop. No rich person wan ride okada or Keke. In the mean time, govt should create robust and sincere smart employment policies to curb the menace so that when these people troop into Lagos, they find work and not find Okada or Keke to ride. criminals only recruit idle minds.... |

VeeVeeMyLuv:Elitist means something that favours or supports the elites of the society. Also, you can't compare Lagos hustle with Abuja hustle. They are not the same. The policy favours those who have private means of transportation. What happens to those who don't have? |

AngryIgboMan:Every other thing you wrote made sense until ''Lagos gave your life meaning bla bla bla..''. I was doing fantastically well in Lagos too but I relocated to my Igbo state and now doing larger things. When I build a plaza or 3-storey commercial building, you get your cash en bloc and have rest of mind that when you die, your children will not lose those property to tribal hatred. And because you fear your Innocent uncle in the village is not enough to remain in another man's land. Lagos belongs to Yorubas! My town's guy lost his 50-room hotel building in Borno and he's now playing ''Draft game'' in the village. Recently, one Odunukwe who imported FIRMAN generators wanted to sell his #900 million property and relocate to Igbo land, he was surreptitiously killed like a Chicken. Igbos have the highest purchasing power in this country, so ignore governors that will come and go and invest home. Is Ebonyi governor not doing roads and other infrastructure? Go to Ebonyi and you'll begin to appreciate the Abakaliki people you once thought are underdogs. Just change your thinking! I'm not preaching you but I was reasoning like you before. |
