Today's wedding between Augustus and Vivian in St Denis Catholic Church Bariga was particularly different in a very cool and sweet way. The bride and groom were beautifully dressed. A friend of mine Edith Kush did the make up for the bride. The wedding was done with the bride and the groom exchanging their vows to each other lovingly. That was the highpoint of the whole thing.

The food and souvenir were beautifully packaged together and were distributed to all that came just immediately after the mass. They had the cutting of the cake just at the exit door of the church. No reception. No hall. No Mc. No DJ. No event planner. No aseobi. No bridal train. Just the essential. Before 1pm everyone was already on their way home and to their other businesses, including the couple. On Sunday they will come for thanksgiving after having consummated the marriage without stress.

Very nice. Churches should rise and starts organizing "As your pocket reach wedding" Aypreach wedding " so far the couples have a reliable source of income. Some people are saving at all cost to have an elaborate wedding which isn't necessary and causing lots of people delayed weddings. The churches should rise in laying emphasis on the marriage rather than the wedding.

The way those regions are going about marriage and marital rites, I fear for the future.


Just as Imo State, most especially Owerri ladies are living with a stereotype now.

You see their ladies, old and unmarried. Better still, they switch to cohabition. All because of cultural modifications.

Parents see their female children as goods to be sold to the highest bidder.

Ever wonder why parents in those regions give their children out to ritualists (Don wanny the militant), kidnappers (Evans the kidnapper), armed robbers (EMONEY the armed robber) without hesitation?

You cannot find that in the North.

PS I am not a Northerner but living with them for over a decade, I see that they have utmost respect for their marital institution.

Aboki can marry without having so much money. As long as he has a verifiable means of income.

On the day of Nikah, the bride's parents will settle her according to their financial strength. The Nikah is all about the young lady. Infact most of the expenses are footed by her parents. They celebrate her for finding a man and settle her to go build her family.

The most annoying thing is couples living separately and still making reference to their union as "fiancee's" despite being married traditionally.

This is very bad and condemnable

This is what u call Stress free occasion for both families and everyone involved.
No hall,
No interior decorator,
No rental of chairs and table,
No Asoebi,
No Dj,
No bridesmaid and bestmen.
No hotel bills,
No running after who has eaten or not,
No running after plates and washing,
No convoy.

Omo the list endless....

They only did the most important part, which is tying the knot.
If people actually know the type of stress couples go through before the day and the main day, una go hail them. Especially the wedding day that still involves the wedding night, many couples don't do anything on their wedding night cos these stress. na like 2nd or 3rd day before the stress wear out... If u know u know.
Whereas these couple go comfortably enjoy their night and even watch movies after the thing and sleep like babies

70% of my wedding budget goes to reception.
Wedding reception is too costly, intending couples should find a way to avoid it.
