That is why I never look at any of them as role models. No ingenuity at all except for maybe Dangote because before the FG fiats, be built his business and everyone was seeing the organic growth. Anybody can be a billionaire if gifted oil wells, so no biggie. The real role models should be Elizade, Coscharis, Innoson, the billionaire bank execs like Elumelu, Ovia, Subomi Balogun. These men started from the scratch.

Every man you listed up there got govt patronage too

Just that Dangote was the most strategic

So just cut the B.S.

There are actually actions he takes that shows he has some serious money not just cheap.

He's married to a Moroccan (exotic taste. Usually associated with people with mad money)

He loves trophy wives.

He has an outsized foundation. He went to Antarctica. He owns a private jet. He isn't loudish like small boys with small cash.

actually you're not far from d truth

You know nothing about the big guys. Otedola inherited virtually all his money from his father who was a former governor of lagos and he almost squandered it.

Tony Elumelu, Bola Shagaya, Pascal Dozie, TY danjuma, Jim Ovie, Orgi Uzor Kalu... All these guys are all lined up ahead of Otedola when it comes to stupendous wealth in this country.

Forget the media hype about Otedeola and his daughters flashing money for the gram. The man business has not been doing well in the recent years.
I’m not arguing with you but you know nothing at all, So inheritance should not count or what r u typing sef, Read up dangote history his great grandfather and grandfather including his father use to be the richest in Nigeria before his regime, If inheritance doesn’t count, he shouldn’t be recognised then, If you type otherwise again, I’m not reply, Just try and learn, Beside google is ur friend, Never put Otedola in the midst of dose instagram billionaire, Otedola is just Few millions away from being a Billionaire in DOLLARS

Putting Otedola in the same category with Nigerian instagram billionaires was pure sacarsm but the truth of the matter is that Otedola's net worth is not even up to $500 Million dollars. You can look him up on the internet or go check his Wikipedia page if you don't have business insiders that can feed you correct info.

Don't be deceived by the hype from musicians & the media. See, the guy is rich but not as people tends to push his net worth beyond the actual worth.

It has been happening for a while now, before after Dangote, clueless people will scream that Otedola is the next but information is at the finger tips now.

Otedola will barely make the list of the richest top 10 Nigeria business men. He is not even in the top 5. The man has been immersed into lot of debts over the past couple of year. He wasted some of his money on prostitutes and he easily gets carried away, he signed some bad deals and went into unprofitable business ventures that made him lose several millions of dollar. Most of the times, it is the prostitutes sent to him by business cronies that enticed him to sign some of these deals. He said he has learnt his lesson now though.

These guys should go and rest with their yeye list. See, there are Nigerians who are richer than these guys. Trust me.... Politicians, G-guys and traders who are richer than Alakija are too numerous to mention.

These guys are just people that declared their assets. You no dey hear where dem talk say EFCC recovered $200 billion from one politician? Lol, has it not passed all of these guys mentioned here?

So many traders in Nnewi alone are richer than these guys, talk more of those in Alaba and Idumota. Forget talk guy

Otedola is in the class with Emoney, Hushpuppi and Mr. Wood berry. More like audio money.
^^^^
^^^^
grin... same class with Emoney and Hushpuppi?

Femi Otedola was on the Forbes list of dollar billionaires right until 2016
so his networth dropped due to inflation and the fact that he has
divested from the shares he had in the oil company [Forte Oil Plc]
of which he was the former chairman.

Forbes also only deals with networths based on prices of stocks
and shares... NOT physical cash.

He has instead recently invested in power generation as part of the
liberalisation of the sector in Nigeria. He has also donated money
running into billions to worthy causes in local currency... so that to
me is the definition of TRUE WEALTH and he earns my complete
admiration!

If Michael Adenuga who is in 3rd position of African-based billionaires opens
up more on his full assets [instead of being reclusive] just like Aliko Dangote
has done, he would most definitely overtake Aliko Dangote based on the
latest billionaire rankings below:
==> https://www.forbes.com/africa-billionaires/list/

Hope this helps.

You're a shame
I should school you anyway;
The Igbos don't run an elitist but egalitarian culture unlike other tribes.
You can hardly visit any town and you say this family has been the richest over generations or over 20yrs.
Wealth is spread across board.
Besides this, succeeding the war, every Igbo was handed 20bill (I've got no problem with this since they involved in a war & had to be punished) while the Hausas & Yorubas shared oil monies. The 2 Yorubas up there had oil money especially we all know the story behind Alakija's; it wasn't out of sheer ingenuity but pure political reason.
Kudos to the Igbos from 20bill is strong today

I knew a thread like this will bring out the vile Igbo haters! Just ignore the fools!

What does it profit a monopolistic man if he gains the whole world, but suffers the indignity of his region/ethnicity being declared as the headquarters of poverty in the world!?

The dickheads never factor in the lopsided political-economy that's been in place since the late 60s that has placed the entire country into the pockets of a few individuals from 'chosen' ethnic groups! They go to bed and sleep well insofar as they believe the Igbos are behind them on all fronts, but the moment a Igbo becomes the leader in any sector, they get all restless and start plotting how to either ruin his business or bring him down a peg or two....like we've seen with Air Peace, INNOSON and IBETO cement!

He's right!!!

If you guys are such wizards in business, why don't you go form a country of your own and leave us to our 'audio oyel'?

Sourcing of raw materials is just part of running and sustaining a business! A lot has to do with gov't policies and gov't support....especially if you're trying to be monopolistic and run your competitors out of town!

Yes they got government patronage but I was trying to differentiate between the genuine businessmen that showed real ingenuity by building their business from the scratch to the level where they now enjoy government patronage from the oil moguls like Alakija, Indimi, Arthur Eze etc who were all lucky to have military friends that gifted them oil blocks. The only work to do is to get a foreign company to work on the block and share the profits.
For example, I know when coscharis started dealing on auto parts at Aba and Nnewi before relocating to Lagos, Innoson started as a motorcycle and spare parts dealer in Nnewi. We know how and when Subomi, Ovia, Fola Adeola started their banks.

Now as a start up businessman, who would you rather look up to for encouragement in your business? A product of hardwork, perseverance, endurance and patience or the product of luck and opportunity.

'Most strategic' my black ass! The main reason he's the richest is because he's Fulani and the Fulani have had Nigeria in their pocket since the late 60s!

I may agree with your argument if you said he trumped his fellow Fulani billionaires like Rabiu because he was the 'most stategic' of the lot of them!
