Masters Or Job? by Nobody: 4:29pm On Feb 10, 2020
I currently work somewhere in VI, which I haven't been long on. But before that, I have already been offered Masters admission in Unillag which I have paid the acceptance fees.

The Masters is for 12 months. I need the money I will be getting from my job. What do I do?

Since you need the money, find a way to balance the two..

If you quit the job, you might get frustrated when there is no funds to pay for materials

You've not paid your school fees yet, yeah? You can switch to part time. That way you keep your job and still keep the masters going.

I can only switch when I've paid

Not at all. Part time fees is different from full time. So you need to switch first before paying else whatever was laid before the switch becomes an absolute waste. A friend switched.

What department are you in, though?

Very well then... just go to your department for proper advice. Worse case scenario, you defer your admission till next year.

It's left for you to look introspectively and decide how important getting your Masters is to you. A job will always come. But if you don't get it now, there's a big chance you may not get around to doing it in another few years.

We're not in the same department. Just go to your PG administrative office and talk to them.

You can't start calling people you don't have a prior relationship with about a matter like that. undecided

LOL @bolded. A job will not always come. I have not been able to get another job for the past eight months and I had to apply for a masters.

If right now I get a job that pays well enough, and I can't make the two work out, trust that I'll definitely abandon the masters. Unless you've been unemployed for so long you won't really understand what I'm saying.
Re: Masters Or Job? by Nobody: 2:07pm On Feb 14, 2020
Stick with the job, make your money, re-apply to Masters. Or stick with both job and masters but do masters part-time. What I'm saying is no matter what, don't leave the job.

I'm currently running my masters degree at Unilag

The part time and full time school fees are different even if you are paying twice.

Our full time pay a total of 139k for the entire programme.

Part time pay about 230k for the first session only.

You cannot switch after paying school fees for full time else it will be invalidated. They will only advise you to defer

Just go now and switch if the window is still open (there's a deadline to do so)

Also, it's not worth leaving your job for. Switching to part time is your best option
