I don't understand why everyone is blaming buhari and the minister if aviation
You call clearly see it written up there that due to bad weather conditions planes had to be rerouted to Accra

I just don't understand why everybody in this country is very narrow minded and unable to attribute the right problems to the right cause

Do you know how difficult it is to land a plane with very poor visibility

What control does the airport or air traffic have over the weather

Una just dey weak person every time I read the comments.... everybody wants to claim knowledgeable on every fucking topic

Don't mind them.

They are all idiots.

Probably, Buhari is also the reason for their narrow mindedness?

Do we we have to wait for the large volume of traffic before we start constructing new airports. A smart country will plans for the future, build the new airports, privatised them (PPP) and generate the business activities that will increase air traffic volumes. I understand that there is a plan to build an international airport in Lekki, brilliant idea as it will serve the financial hub in Lekki and it's immediate surrounding in Epe and Ogun state. International Airports are transformation infrastructure impact the development of a country.

Nigeria is poor because Nigerian cultural and social elites are prepared to tolerate poor leadership, imagine Lagosian protesting to retain Okada and Keke Nepad when they should have been on the street protesting against the deplorable state of the roads, lack of drainage and metro railway in the state.

Yes we have to wait to have larger traffic until we construct “more” airports, and that’s what you original post stated. More is different from new!

How do u improve visibility? The best thing to do is to fix the ILS in the airport and no claiming you will make weather better

So as a minister of aviation you don't know why Airlines choose to reroute to Ghana other than Abuja ..okay then let me list the reasons out for you .

1 .Kotoka Airport Ghana is closer to Lagos than Abuja and so will save the airline more fuel

2. The ILS service in Abuja airport is epileptic and obsolete CAT 1 while Kotoka has CAT 3b where an aircraft can land with even just 50 ft of visibility

3 .the cost of aviation fuel is cheaper and more accessible than Nigeria

4 Kotoka airport Ghana has better runway service than any airport in Nigeria

So Mr minister you can see why any reasonable crew will opt to reroute to Ghana than head to Abuja

Without prejudice to the rest of your post...
Lagos to Accra is same flight time as Lagos to Abuja: 1 hr 15 min.

Frankly, it makes little LOGISTIC sense to take Nigeria-bound passengers to Accra (in Ghana) if Abuja (in Nigeria) is available.

BTW, Kotoka Accra actually has CAT 2 ILS, while Abuja (and Lagos) has been testing-running the CAT 3 ILS system since last November in the process of replacing the existing CAT 2 (not CAT 1) system. The system arrived in Nigeria in August 2019, and were installed and being test-run as far back as last November (or even October) with replacement supposed to have been completed by the third week of December, but not sure of the status.

There's no need to build White Elephants...

Both of Nigeria's major international gateways in Lagos and Abuja are built to be EXPANDABLE....
Meanwhile, traffic at both airports are less than capacity, and if/when required both would probably be expanded.

You would think that no matter how bad things have been allowed to deteriorate, that they would let the Aviation sector be untouched by their corruption. The aviation sector is the first point of interaction with the so called investors and visitors. Its the first place most people see and the first experience they get.
But no.
Their sickness has not allowed any brain cell to remain.
I hear flights are now being diverted.International flights!
Indeed this is not a country but a free for few buffet with option of take away.We are just not a country

Oga. In poor visibility, modern aircrafts use instrument landing system. ILS.
Ie the aircrafts navigational, control systems interacts with signals from well calibrated landing instrument on the airport runway. The aircraft can even land itself with little input from the pilot.
What will you say about countries such as Russia where you have cold, heavy cloud cover, storms and blizzards, etc. E mean say plane no go land there again naa.
In earlier post, a well informed person explained of how obsolete the landing systems in Abuja and Lagos is compared to that in ghana.
The fault is our usual imcompitence.

I have never spent on hours from Lagos to ghana all my neither have I spent 1 hour 15 minutes to Abuja so you don't know what you are saying ...I have done Lagos to Abuja on small jets in 45 minutes and on bigger commercial jets between 50 to 58 minutes , the ghana flight is so short that immediately the finish climbing before you you know you hear the call for approach entry

Since the visibility of Lagos is not encouraging, what happened to Abuja airport, what happened to calabar, what happened to portharcourt, what happened to bayelsa?
If this is in their country they would have fined Nigeria 20billion just as they did with P&ID

You are fond of making outlandish statements with a sole purpose in mind.

From CNN:

The airport is "in the process of replacing the old category 2 Instrument Landing Systems with the newly procured category 3 system that allows for the lowest visibility landing," said James Odaudu, director of public affairs for Nigeria's Ministry of Aviation.

Instrument Landing System (ILS) works as a signal navigation aid that guides pilots when landing in low visibility. Airport authorities in Lagos experienced difficulties replacing their old ILS with a new one, making it impossible for airplanes to land.

"Unfortunately, there was a malfunctioning of certain components, which, coupled with the unforeseen weather conditions, made landing at the airport difficult," Odaudu said in the statement.

What is the difference in what he said and what u are saying?? U have only succeeded into confirming he knows what he’s saying to the T. Which is our airport ILS Systems are obsolete even till date and if this had been functional like Ghana this issues wudnt have arisen.

So what is outlandish about his comments? What is his sole purpose in stating the facts of the matter than hiding under poor weather to confuse naive people?
