I dont want to have issue with uber in anyways because its the only reason im meeting up to my weekly target with less stress n peace.

But most riders are making it difficult for me.
Last week uber mailed me informing of how my account is been flaged for high cancellation. I mailed them back giving some justifiable reasons which was acknowledged by uber. Yet ive had about 6 cancellations afterwards due to one reason or the other, marina axis, wrong pickup address, I'd to even extend my waiting time to 10-12min b4 i cancel.

Right now as I type this mail I'm on a 5km pickup distance I've called and message rider on the app bfor I mive but rider is not picking up neither is he respinding to my messages. So im conduse now dont want to start my week with cancellation now.

What do you guys suggest please

One trick I use when ever I want to use uber to avoid high cancellation rate is to drive to pick up point, wait for 5mins, then cancel without charging rider.

It'll never count on my cancellation rate.

If after 20min waiting, bro its better you move on. And state your reason for cancellation in the app.

Niti baba, I'm not saying ehailing not be taxed. No, I haven't said that

I have a friend that used a 2007 Audi A7 for uber(Yeah, you heard me right). He only drove twice, and he used it to carry riders from Ajah,
because, according to him, he wanted to know the feeling and blah blah blah

This is the purpose of ride sharing. Are you saying this person should get a license of #110k because of this? Are you also saying he automatically becomes a commercial driver?

People who use their private cars to pick #50 passengers on the road just to make few bucks, are you saying they automatically should pay #110k for the license and get the Hackney?

I'm not saying the government should not tax them oh. But the means is unreasonable.

Other countries that kicked out Uber, didn't do it because of tax. They did it because local taxi businesses was dying.

Or will you tell me confidently that those yellow Gold half taxi drivers paid #110k for their licenses?

Reason with me, baba grin
Nice thoughts bro. I have been paying tax to Lagos State government since 2010 that I started working. Over 10k on a monthly basis since 2010. Do the math and see how much of my income has gone down the drain in the name of paying tax to a faceless government. I still run my car through potholes on a daily basis in Lagos, I provide security for myself, I provide electricity for myself. And someone comes here to remind of how I will further pay tax for having an uber passenger in my car on my way to work, so I can afford to pay for a dubious toll gate, so I will have money to fix my car destroyed in a government road that they refused to fix with all the tax that I have paid so far, so I will have money to provide electricity, security for my household. I could go on and on. God will punish any senseless pig that will come here and rant about paying tax to a useless cabal at Alausa in the name of government.

A sound round of applause.
Did Opay not pay handsomely to this same government before they venture into this ehailing business?
He even said they provides roads as if all the roads in Lagos are motorable.
What have we benefitted from the taxes Fowler and Co have accrued all these years?
We have a way of justifying mediocrity in this country, may be because we've been wired to it, i don't know.
My advice is for fellow drivers to beware and be on the look out, if its possible to avoid certain areas during the day, please avoid it.

You get my point. 110k for wat exactly?

The two roads that look really smooth in Lagos. I pay #200 n #300 respectively to ply them.

So wat is the 110k for?

I mean LASG just overhyped its potential.

Which private company will shell out over $1,000,000 for a transportation license.

What are the potential for returns.

Of the 20 million plus in Lagos, what fraction of that figure even use Uber.

From reports, uber presently operates in over 15 African cities.

Now here is the catch: Lagos does not rank in the TOP 3 cities based on metrics as regards volume of riders and usage.

So, what is the hype about providing a market. Cairo has a better market potential in d ehailing industry than Lagos.

So wat is the 110k for?

If you had a company, will you pay $1,000,000 for a non defined market.

The Fct has a far better road network esp. Within the city than Lagos.

So the road argument won't fly.

Security? What security? We all remember the sad story of Tomi, the taxify guy who was shot in the eyes around 8pm @ nite. From mushin via apongbon .

Countless cases that are not documented.,

Loss of revenue as a result of drivers refusing to go to such areas.

So 110k for wat exactly?

Lol

Let even agree that Uber drivers need to get a license. My question is

Is it #110k that those old men with rickety golfs used to get theirs?

Like Tyche said, the next thing we may likely see after forcing Hackney on uber drivers is for them to change their plates from blue to red. Because according to Vehicle registration processes, HACKNEY IS FOR COMMERCIAL VEHICLES, AND COMMERCIAL VEHICLES SHOULD BE RED PLATED

And once you carry red plate? Na you and different council go dey make love everyday grin

I'm into cab Business. But I'm not an Uber partner.

The requirements are quite high. Below 100k mileage. Not older than 2008 model etc.
With this the barriers to entry is high. They are basically asking for brand new cars.

I don't know much about the weekly or monthly income but I'm sure the drivers /partners make money. And NOTE that The business generally is lucrative. With or without Uber.

For potential investors /partners don't forget that you are still ultimately responsible for the actions of the driver.

Now where are the partners o?

Come share your experience.

Good afternoon pls which type of car do u use for ur cab business

I understand your point sir, but these cases you refer to are the exceptions rather than the rule. I agree with you that government should be able to identify and excuse these exceptions from the licensing fees.

But then, using a private car to convey passengers from one place to another is also a serious traffic offence in Lagos and warrants impounding without remedy of the car.

In LASG's eyes, cars are either fully commercial or fully private.

And we shouldn't forget the possibility that LASG might be trying to protect the taxi unions. To be honest, when I used to drive, my conscience disturbs me whenever I see these aged men at their parks, helpless against the onslaught of e-hailing vehicles.

Na your side I dey.

Boss since we r into business of logics, let me speak for myself. Lagos state government will always b right in issues of back and forth, cos what an administration want is simply what they want and if you r not pleased, wait till d tenure is over and do the needful (That is if election count in this part of d country).

I as a person, I'm not against d permits, the only thing I frown against is manner at which it is been foster on drivers, mind! The drivers r just the one raising unnecessary dust about this whole issue. Listening to city FM this morning, one of the FRSC officer said she is not aware of all these uber guys being scared to work until this Saturday when someone brought it to her notice and advice drivers should keep to Lagos state rules in other not to be disturbed, as for the operations licence, she can't say more, but if uber feels the conditions r harsh, they can meet and talk things out. This is just to show you that nobody is absolutely right or wrong in a situation that is open for deliberation.

Now you went as far as saying an uber driver net 2.5 million naira annually, that is unfair, you can't b using the strength of Jesusson2020 to judge other drivers and to net 2.5 million naira annually, you must have gross +/- 4 million naira, please how is this possible? The fact that leaves r assumed to b green, does not make all leave green, not all driver make that much annual, so the best is to pick averagely and make that a determinant factor.

You said guilty trip always hit you when you see old taxi drivers just sitting? You must have been doing some thing wrong for that to disturb you. I am scared of using the phrase "old taxi drivers" because we'll all get old someday, if air is still passing thro our nostril, but with respect to them, business will always b business, they r fighting back in every possible way, airport taxi is fighting back in every way too, so dont b that quick to celebrate or pity anyone, because this land is open for anyone at anytime... The last time I checked, airport taxi is still making good money (tough would have been beta without Uber) and you have ppl submitting Cv's in your office, I don't know why your r not feeling like you are occupying someone sit.

You called 100k chicken change (I know you will say for life), that's 3 months plus a week minimum wage u just rubbish like that. I am yet to gather my facts if the 100k is for a particular car or for the driver... But in case it is for a particular car, what made you think any car on uber can go beyond 2 years? Anybody that drive on uber for 10 years and go thro the terrain of trying to meet up with jesusson2020 dashboard won't last 5/10years in addition to the 10 years he have driven (Uber drivers r among d early birds and nightingales).

What I've noticed about guys on this thread is that they resort to insults and abuses when they lose an argument or they don't agree with someone else's point of view.

Guys, I will freely express my point of view on this thread. I'm not here for you people's likes or social clout.
And if anyone feels he can insult me or shade me and go scot-free, that person has another thing coming. Like I always say, nobody has the monopoly of insults or shades.

And trust me, no one can do it better than me. I write words for a living. I can kill, literally, with the words I write.

So calling me senseless pig and the likes; I will just allow that slide for now. Next time, I will reply not just in kind, but directly.

Going by all the enlighten and confusing issues above, it means roughly 70% of all Private cars in Lagos will be affected. Most of the VIO, LASTMAN and police Boss also use their car to curvey people from Island to Mainland. Imagine 110k from that number of cars. What I am saying is, the 110k license issue by each car owners(uber or temporary uber) is not possible. Lets stop stressing ourselves and watch out for some of the vampire that wants to take advantage of the situation to extort drivers. #BREAKTHEIR LEGS :-) .... call AngryIgboMan if you are caught.

I passed by VIO today around Agindingbi/Lateef Jakande road, I noticed that most uber cars were trying to dodge by overtaking and staying in the inner lane. For me this is what will easily draw attention to a driver. I feel if we need to get a Lasdri card then let's get that for a start just incase you're pulled over and not all our dagbo moves. I'm yet to get mine either but i will soon Whatever that 110k stands for, I don't know but the low hanging fruits can easily be achieved.

My car was almost towed by LG touts around Ikoyi today. Guys don’t park anywhere around Temple drive, Olu-Holloway! These guys go around in a private car, they will block you and before you know it their towing van will cross you down.

I was having a difficulty ending a trip I took to that area, rider was impatient, she just dropped the lowest figure of the trip estimate and left. I drove out of the building onto the road so I could find someone to share his network with me. I was still talking with someone when I saw a car driving straight to me with towing van following behind, I quickly ran into my car, lock the doors and engage reverse but they were too close, they boxed me in one corner.

Luckily the security guys around there were already tired of their excesses, they were the ones who came to my rescue.

While the security guys were dragging with them I remained calm in the car, one was knocking on the glass that I should roll down the glass, I didn’t answer.

After so much of going back and forth, they left.

Guys before you park under that tree to wait for request, think twice!
