You can actually get electrocuted by your shower, if it is connected to an electric water heater. Apparently, the hotel wasn't properly "earthed". At least that's what I got from a quick google search.

I was almost electocuted in the shower of a hotel in Calabar last year too. Nigerian hotels need to pay more attention to their electrical fittings especially in the bathroom. How can a normal person tie a metal string from the water heater to the shower curtain rails? I was lucky that the shock occurred before I turned on the shower; I would have been electrocuted.

Guys please, always carefully survey your hotel room before you settle in.
