NURTW has never collected revenue for the govt anywhere. NURTW collects membership dues. Govt officials or govt appointed collection agents collect revenue on behalf of government.

Note that the ban is against constitutional guarantee of freedom if association. Also, why should a convicted murderer be appointed to head the Disciplinary Committee? Especially someone that killed while struggling for leadership of NURTW? Why won't the other faction see this as govt sanctioned takeover of parks and heading over same to their enemy that lost out to them?
I can see that you must be one of the NURTW members if not, you won't be arguing like this. May be also, you are not a resident in Ibadan to witness the behaviours of this union in the city. Who built the parks ? Let's see how their strike will go self. Nonsense set of people.

If NURTW goes on strike, isn't that a good riddance of them? cheesy

Who enjoys their presence anyway?

A case of someone caught within a plot to be roasted for meal, and he thinks the best way to protest it is by dousing himself with oil cheesy
Are you this ignorant?

When they are on strike, which buses and taxis will the government tax?
NURTW remains the biggest transport sector union and believe you me if they go on strike everyone will suffer.

Let us leave all this semantics and say the reality on ground, they collect revenue via ticketing and harassment, by the way I didn't mention "for government", if they are unions then they should fix a date for their union meeting, then the members go there, drink beer and pay meeting contribution money as it meant to be, not sitting in the park, harass drivers, collect loading money, that is only used for the enjoyment of their leaders for a position gotten by violence. They should not collect money and leave the park and drivers. If oyo state wants to increase their igr via transport, how would it be if nurtw is also collecting illegal money. Baba I grew up in lag and I know how those guys do their stuffs. As for auxillary, you have a point there but I feel to tackle them you have to have someone as hard as them, better still let the governor replace him.

Ogbeni, before you throw jabs at people make sure you have your facts. By size (surface area), Oyo state is bigger than all Southern states and also bigger than Sokoto, Nasarawa, Katsina, Jigawa, Gombe, even Kano! Yes, Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria.

There so much misconception about the revenue at the motor parks and how it's generated.
Inside approved standard motor parks the local government generates revenue, the state government gets its own while the transport union(s) also collect.
Because of corruption, little of what is supposed to go the governments get there but the NURTW gets most of its revenue intact which makes it earn most from motor parks...What NURTW is doing in parks is what tailor association or barber associations do, the only difference being some NURTW tickets are daily, mostly for the unit a driver belongs.
Some of these tickets are daily, weekly, monthly or annually

Why my epistle, the only thing that will be different when park managers begin to manage the parks is that the government will make more money as the corruption loopholes would have been blocked. The government CANNOT collect union dues......... All those millions unions collect daily are actually union money NOT state government revenue

Union collect the money to do what exactly? To borrow drivers in the case of theft, accident or financial crisishuh Or for the Union leaders to sit somewhere doing nothing then expecting return to flex with in the evening?? Did you know how hard it is to be a commercial driver?? The money spend for putting d vehicle up and running. Only for someone who has never in anyway helped me when I was looking for money to buy my car or repair my car live and feed fat on my money. My brother let the state government collect it and use it to develop the state, afterall NURTW is not the one fixing bad roads.

You people need to sit and think more.
Have you entered bus from CMS to toll gate before?
Those stupid Union will collect money for ticket, for loading, for agbero, for police, for morning, for afternoon and if you refuse they will spoil your bus.
Meanwhile.... Most of the collections has no record, what does that tell you? They can collect 50m and report 5m and those idiots will share the rest doing nothing.
They encourage thuggery, drugs, weeds and nuisance.
Abeg they should scrap them in all the southwestern state. We need peace

dainformant:
An executive of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos state chapter, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo, joined a host of others yesterday to celebrate the birthday of Abba Kyari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) commanding the IGP's intelligence response team.

Abba Kyari, who recently turned a year older, was hosted to a surprise birthday dinner with friends and colleagues yesterday in Lagos.

Internet users have shared their opinion on the "unholy"union between the crime buster Abba Kyari and MC Oluomo due to his 'reputation'.

Meanwhile, Mc Oluomo is celebrating his birthday today, two months after surviving a stab wound which was inflicted on him at a political rally of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State.

Watch the video from MC Oluomo's birthday celebration below.

You are wise my friend. Very wise.

From my understanding, NURTW falls under the purview of the local government and by extension, the state. You cannot claim the government has no influence on the activities of NURTW when the revenue generated goes to the state government, bottom line.

Now, instead of enriching a few guys and remitting what you want to the government, the Governor has decided, and rightly so, to be involved in the process which generates funds for the state. How is that a problem? If one alleges that the choice of Auxiliary as opposed to Ejiogbe is a wrong choice, it is a case of two persons applying for a job and one getting picked over the other. You want to foment trouble as a result, please go ahead. You will understand what it means to fight against the government. Ask Ajimobi how many years Auxiliary spent in incarceration while he was Governor.

With this, the IGR increases, government builds modern parks and bus terminals... See what Ambode dazed people with at Oshodi.... And everyone is happy.

Let us stop encouraging government of the usual. Let us encourage government of difference. That everyone is doing it in a particular way doesn't make it right. Abnormal has become normal in this country.

Lord, help us.

eluquenson:
REVISITING SOME OF THE LATEEF JAKANDE'S GOVERNMENT ACHIEVEMENTS FROM OCTOBER 1979 TO DECEMBER 1983 (FOUR YEARS AND 3 MONTHS) IN LAGOS STATE

* His government built the current Lagos State Secretariat which houses all the state ministries as well as the popular round house hitherto occupied by all subsequent governors of the state.

* His government built the Lagos Radio

* His government built Lagos State University

* His government established General Hospital in zones all over the state with assurance of free health care.

* His government established the Water Management Board and Waste Disposal Board on the 18th of August, 1980.

* His government constructed the Adiyan Water Works to increase water supply in the state to 18.16 million litres per day.

* His government modernized and expanded the Iju Water Works which was first commissioned in 1915. This increased daily capacity from 159 million to 204 million litres per day.

* His government purchased and commissioned the giant car crusher equipment. The equipment was designed specifically to crush derelict vehicles in Lagos State. It had the capacity to crush 45 vehicles per day.

* His government constructed, rehabilitated and resurfaced Epe/Ijebu-Ode Road, Oba Akran Avenue, Toyin Street, Town Planning Way, Alimosho-Idimu-Egbe Road, Idimu-Iba-LASU Road, the new secretariat road and several others.

* His government constructed Victoria Island/Epe Road and thereby creating an ‘oil rig’ for Lagos State.

* His government established Asphalt Plant for the Department of Public Works.

* His government established Electricity Board for Rural Electrification with provision of street lights.

* His government modernized, expanded and commissioned Onikan Stadium in 1982.

WHO SAYS 4 YEARS IN OFFICE IS NOT ENOUGH FOR MEANINGFUL ACHIEVEMENTS?

IT'S A FACT THAT 90% OF GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA SINCE 1999 WITH REVENUES AT THEIR DISPOSAL CANNOT BOAST OF A QUARTER OF THESE ACHIEVEMENTS EVEN WITHIN THEIR EIGHT YEARS IN OFFICE.
