Why buy either when there are new foreign clothes; not necessarily expensive designer?

I would absolutely buy Nigerian made clothes if I could get well sewn good quality products; but Nigerian artisans do not pay any attention to fine detail. They will always use poor material where they think you won't see it and may not bother about getting the seams straight. Plus they will delay your work for weeks or months; they are equally poor at keeping to promised schedules.

As for those Nigerian artisans who can actually sew attractive, good quality clothing, they will usually put foreign labels on them instead of building their own brand. Talk about selling their potential multimillion dollar fashion house for a pot of porridge. Totally shortsighted.

Everytime promote Nigeria made promote Nigeria that. Una no dey tire. Border has been closed since last year wetin b d effect. Prices of local products with low quality selling at a high price(exactly the price of foreign products.insome cases local price is even higher), with supposed closure of the border, economy supposed don improve but nothing as changed. We still dey were we dey....Stop diz 'patronise Nigeria made product' campaign coz u won't see d impact in our economy. Group of persons go jst dey one side dey embezzle d proceeds.

Yes, we still need to promote it.
Believe me, these things take time..
it only requires sustained efforts with the right policies and you will see things improve.
No matter what we say here to down grade our own, we can't have any other.

If we regulate the market properly you will have more competition which will inturn enhance quality.

There has to be a shift and things are shaping up. for. the better.

Nigeria and Nigerians are unserious.

You want your country to develop like other western nations yet you spend your money on importing toxic clothes from white people.

Some even claim foreign used underwears are the best.

All those countries you are running into wore their rubbish clothes like that before they improved and got it right.

Our gualible fashion wannabes want Nigeria's tailors to make Rihanna"s cloth for Iya Shukura price.
No, white people developed at the same rate no greater country to supply them used cloth

Some of your points are okay to an extent but let me draw ur attention to something else. The cement industry, oil and gas industry has been dominated by our fellow citizens for years. What impact hav dat made in d economy? The truth is,its not d foreign products dat is killing our economy but the embezzlement of our politicians

New Nigerian made clothes are better. It's just that we don't value our own things. I remember those days. Ppl would say " ibo made ni".

Why second hand foreign clothes when you can afford brand new foreign clothes smiley

The Honest truth is that in Nigeria, to maximize profit, some Boutiques buy grade A used foreign clothes, dryclean it and hang it in the well furnished boutique with high price tag.

Buyer can never know the difference. This secret was leaked by one of those working in a boutique...

Saying WHITES in this case obscures how it actually happened.

UK was the first mass producer of clothes because they invented the automatic loom. And then the sewing machine.

UK banned exporting of these machines.

At the time, every wife made the clothes for the family. That's where KNITTING came from.

US and virtually every other country imported clothes from UK until one guy with phographic memory (Samuel Slater) went to UK, memorized the diagram of the loom, and smuggled the loom in pieces - separate shipments - hidden within other objects.

And that's how UK dominance in clothes crumbled.

Now Americans no longer manufactures clothes. It's all imported clothes from China.

Our super-low value naira is what's keeping most of us from buying new clothes directly from China.

Personally, I don't like second hand clothes. I can buy from bail if I can see the label is still there and it looks like it hasn't been worn before. But generally, I like new, quality, affordable clothes.

The market for pre-loved items is a multi-million dollar industry and has continued to grow exponentially though I'm not exactly certain on the statistics.

Do you think it has had a negative impact on the growth of clothing production in the Nigerian industry? Let’s discuss....⠀

Akube sure pass o! Brand new Nigerian made wey dem dey use paper dey sow, when you wash it, all the colour go comot, and they are expensive. The new ones are usually bought by thugs like oluomo and his thug boys cos dem no know what quality is. As for me wey sabi quality, and ready to pay little for a grade 1 akube clothes and shoes, or brand new akube wey dem never wear before, NA AKUBE BE MY CHOICE.

U need to Change ur mentality,, used can never be like new,, why would a young abled man be wearing used clothes ,, compare a used t shirt to a new one,,,, imagine me wearing a used T-shirt to church or important occasions ,, how will people rate me,,, bros continue with ur used clothes life style

we call them second hand, but not all are used clothes. For instance, those jerseys we buy. Some club management may call for a new design, & discard all their old stock.

If you see where them dey open bale, you go understand me. Most clothes you see in Lagos roadside boutiques are gotten from those bales, washed & hung in d shop

They buy them abt N500 from bales, & resell even up to 5k

Interesting.
I should point out though, that most of the new clothes in Naija are imported from China.
Often with low quality.

These clothes aren't even naija made but China.
Nigerians can't even dream of being able to afford new American or European clothes for now.

The cheapest you can get a hoodie for instance is like $40.
Not even many well paid Nigerians can afford that.

There are Chinese clothes with higher quality but it comes at a higher price.
All in all, both have their places. In an economy like Nigeria, a real middle class Fashionista can't do without Foreign used.

Is it the tacky China jeans in the market you want to wear?
Infact, quality 'stock' jeans can't cost less than 10k brand new. How many can you afford with the small salaries in Nigeria? undecided

Smile. It's well.
Majority of my consumers go for OK mostly because it's affordable. Ok goes for as low as 100 naira upward for SEC C2 D and E. The question is, can SEC C2, D and E afford new clothes? No!
