Good morning mama's. My baby is 11 months and 2 weeks old. He eats solids and fruits well, he is not a picky eater. His gerber rice, Tom brown, formula and oats just finished and I'm thinking of buying golden morn and peak 123 with the tom brown only for him this morning. I don't know if it's okay to introduce golden morn to him now since he still has 2 weeks left to clock 1 year?

Different things can cause a baby to stool and vomit. Bacteria, illness, anything. Rotavirus is just one of those things, hence the need for the vaccine. So a child who was vaccinated against rotavirus can still stool and vomit.

Mummy’s in the house good morning oh. God continue to bless us all amen. Please it’s midnight and I cannot sleep, my LO is having fever, took him to the hospital earlier today Which I was asked to get some medication. I have given him his medication but the fever is still thee. Body still hot and he’s 7 months old. Please everyone should advise me on what to do and is it normal? Cause I can’t think straight. Please I’m waiting patiently for your reply. One love

The fever wont just go like that, it will take some days for the drugs to kick in. I'm assuming you were given paracetamol or ibuprofen in addition to the other drugs. Sometimes both is given to avoid overdose, so you just alternate.

So continue administering them, tepid sponge too, wear light clothing. If after 2 or 3 days and no improvement, go back to the hospital.

Good day all.
A lot of children have been falling sick this period and women keep saying it's the weather
I don't know if it's just my state, cos I live in Abuja or if it's a nation wide thing.

The two general hospitals near me in bwari and kubwa are crowded with sick children on admission and there is no bed space left. This month alone my 2 year old fell ill twice with temperature, vomiting and coughing.
People keep saying it's the weather responsible for the sickness but me I don't understand.

How is the weather making children sick? Its not too hot here or too cold so how is it the weather exactly?
Or is there a spread of flu or something else we do not know of? I was thinking it's my babys creche not taking proper care of him that's why he was falling sick but the overcrowded hospitals is making me have a rethink.
Has Anyone heard any concrete reason about the many children falling sick these days?

There was cholera outbreak in the east in the past month and one child I know died..no bed spaces in hospitals as well. The one you described might be the wearher...DD had cough, cattarh and the likes the whole of January. It was so bad that mucus used to block her eyes when she wakes. She just got better this month even though her nose is still crusty and she still demands for water through the night and immediately she wakes in the morning

Right now, my DD is on admission and she took the rotavirus vaccine. Beside my DD bed is a child that has been on admission since Monday yet, no improvement. He's stooling like a running tap and vomitting through his nose and mouth but my DD case isn't serious like the boy's own. Was thinking it's this Abuja weather too o

That's what everyone has been saying, it's the weather, it's the weather, that's all people say but how weather take concern vomiting and stooling? grin
If it was cough and catarrh I would have said its the mild harmattan or cold.
I feel it's a spread of bacteria or virus or something that affects only toddlers.
My own son was on admission three weeks ago and was discharged only to fall sick again last week but thank God he's ok now
I just kept him at home with me and stopped creche for now cos I don't know if this weather sickness can be transmitted from child to child in creche.

Thank God she's better now.

I wish we know for sure what caused this outbreak so people can know what to avoid and which precautions to take. Abuja own is not cholera, at least I don't think it is. I know someone who only give bottled water to their kids (like myself)and are meticulous with hygiene and they were also affected.

If your child is stooling uncontrollably either due to viral or bacterial infection please try pap therapy.

Pap therapy for diarrhea
Cook some pap.
Mix equal amount of raw pap with the cooked pap and give child every 2h.
The stooling will reduce.
Make sure you give the child every 2h or at least every 6h.
If child vomits, try to control the vomiting first then give child the pap.

Also noteworthy is not to ever ever give vaccine to a sick child! Don't even try it!
The vaccine may for a number of reason take advantage of the child's weak immune system and be the cause of a second illness which would be very fatal.
Also, know that even the rotavirus vaccine can make a baby stool. It contains the virus and may elicit symptoms in some children in order to wake up the antibodies.
One you hear outbreak of anything, keep your child at home. Please, it can be very inconvenient but do so for the sake of that child. In my school (preschool) we've had to close our baby class more than twice in the past years. There was an outbreak of measles from a child whose immunization went wrong due to an expired vaccine, immediately the case was recorded and a second child got mumps (remember the vaccine is mmr) we closed down that class. Most schools won't want to close down for fear of losing customers but it paramount to take measures to stop the virus. Another case was the hand foot and mouth disease that affected 9 out of 15 kids in my class it's incubation period(stays in your system long before you show symptoms) is like 2 weeks so we didn't know on time. Each parent spent close to 200k for their kids treatment.

May God always protect our little ones.
If you're a working mom, have a list of like 3 back up creche, standard enough for you to make a switch on a short notice.

My worry is that you cannot know if any child in the back up creches also has the sickness causing the outbreak. Some might be asymptomatic or even symptomatic and the creche staff will continue to keep the child with healthy kids, maybe because no room for isolation or they are scared to tell the parents to keep the child at home. My former creche was like that. The lady in charge of the creche keeps very obviously sick babies with healthy ones because the moms have jobs to get to and cannot keep the children at home.
I m supposed to go to antenatal tomorrow but I might have to cancel that one and stay home with baby because I don't know if any of my regular creches have been exposed to the rotavirus or whatever is causing this outbreak. sad

Good morning mothers. My wife looks too disturbed. How do I help her?
Our first baby girl turned 6 months, nine days ago. She was on exclusive through out (not even water was given to her). After the exclusive wahala, we decided to introduce soya bean meal, prepared with groundnut, and crayfish. She'll just taste it and then close her mouth. Completely refusing to let another one touch her tongue. We may have allowed her taste ice cream and other things, of which she rejects. But she agreed to take normal tea.

Now the main issue: three days ago, she just started throwing up, drooling, temperature increased, she never smiled again like before. We got bonababe syrup, emzolyte for hydration. She has stopped throwing up but still stools watery stool like every 2 to 3 hours. We observed that about 8 teeth are trying to shoot out. She hardly closes her mouth. Yesterday, my wife drew my attention to her down side peeling off (becoming reddish) . This morning, the redness has increased to the bombom. (she said its jedijedi). All these complications is just within 3 days.

Advice please. Thanks

pls, I want to get something straight on this issue of golden morn, and corn flakes. For a child that can take corn flakes, the child should be able to take golden morn, abi is it not the same corn that it's been used to produce it? It's just to prepare with warm water and make it soft before giving the child. Cos children from age 1 and above don't like taking all these cerelac and co, buying them is just wasting of money cos majority of them keep rejecting it.

One issue I discovered though about it is that it makes their poo to be strong.
One should make it watery while preparing it.
Also, it shouldn't be an everyday food for them.

I stand to be corrected

When we were referred to the nutrition and dietary department of lasuth about 2 years ago, we were given a list of food a 1year old can take. Cornflakes with milk was part but they said no Goldenmorn. I guess there is a reason for that.
