Zamfara’s Governor Bello Matawalle of the Peoples Democratic Party will switch political allegiance to the All Progressives Congress soon.

Former governor of the state and three-term Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima confidently said this in a newspaper interview published on Monday.

Yarima, who as governor appointed Matawalle to run the Ministry of Local Government said the political switch is in the works and is ‘most likely”.

“Yes. We are working and we are talking. Every politician tries to get more people to their party especially governors. If I can have governors with me, the party will be better off”, he told Daily Trust.

Asked how far the APC had gone to woo Matawalle, Yarima responded:

“I think we have gone very far”.

It was expected but it is not going to be done very fast.
Zamfara is an Apc state , matawalle got the mandate as a result of yari vs marafa power tussle. In fact pdp didn't win a single seat in the Senate, house of reps, and house of Assembly before supereme court sack apc.

The Zamfara governor is one that I’ve always suspected to cross.
Zamfara is a strong APC state and the governor was only lucky APC was disqualified. A former governor of the state who was elected under ANPP crossed to PDP in 2011 and lost his re-election even with PDP at the center.
It’ll be hard for Matawalle to be re-elected under PDP so the defection won’t be a surprise at all.

Knew and envisage of this, but perhaps he should have waited atleast two years to 2023 Election, those anti western civilization will always prefer their traditional party so the govenor is wise and wouldn't want to risk his second term in office bid

It is taking too late already. He cannot win re-election on the platform of PDP in Zamfara. Crossing over to APC is inevitable for him.
