Check well. It's either the woman has a mental disorder or that is not her biological child.

There's actually something called "too much discipline" and African parents have failed since centuries to understand that. I wonder whether all these kidnappers, armed robbers, rapists, and criminals were not beaten and flogged to stupor when they were kids. How did they turn out? To be princes and decent men? We have to ask ourselves what we're doing wrong. I'm not saying you shouldn't punish kids but this kind of trauma is what gives way to dysfunctional adults.

That's why you're this dysfunctional. A guy like this will beat the light of his unfortunate children, thinking it will "mould" them.

And then the boy would find solace outside his home... He would rather live with an armed robber that treats him nice than his mother's....

I'd discipline my child but not to this extent... I solely believe that too much discipline would turn a child to a rebel....

Most abused victims justify their abuse. In reality, if your abuse really did happen, you will find there would be a lot of deficiency in the way you relate to others as well as in your muted kindness and sympathy towards others. You personally may not perceive it, but others who you interact with, will. So while a soft smack or two is great to keep a child in line, random power caning (which some teachers pride themselves in) and this type of beating in the article damage the psyche of the child.

corporal punishment is an european creation. many Africans haven't trained themselves to unlearn it.

Because they themselves grew up in it. An abused child grows up to be an abuser of children. The cycle perpetuates itself. Then you have a country full of cruel, self centred individuals, each with zero empathy for others.

The woman surely have a mental disorder. She needs treatment. This child should be taken away from that toxic environment and rehabilitated. Who knows what he must have gone through in the hands of his own mother.

But that was those days. Life has moved on. There is no need beating kids that much. Modern parenting skills are needed now.

There is too much violence in society.

Some kids may come to see physical violence as a way to pass a message across or express emotion.

Maybe beating of kids helped to keep some kids on the straight and narrow. But maybe it also gave us the many violent men and women we have in the society today. Alongside other biopsychosocial issues.
