Between My Teaching Job And A Bank Security Job by Toby122(m): 12:00pm On Mar 03, 2020
Hello, Nairalanders, I am 27 years of age and just passed out from service October last year, with a 2.1 degree cert in Geo/Envi Mgt.

My PPA retained me with a pay of 20k just this January they added 5k to my salary.

On Friday I got a call from my pastor about a security job in first bank. To cut the long story short, I was given an appointment with a salary of 40k, and now I am so confused. I have plans to further my education by September this year and am not really comfortable with leaving my current job...

Pls I want your take on this....

Cost Analysis.

If you plan to further your education , how much will that cost?

How much will u spend on the teaching job and how much can you save. Compare that with the banking job?

....Its not how much you earn but what you can do with it.

Other factors that should be taken into consideration include ; job security, security of life, flexibility/ peace, connections, prospects e.t.c.

If you ask me, I would take that security job, do the job with passion and before you know it, you can even be employed there because you will be the first to know if there is any vacancy. If sept comes and u have ur admission in hand, you can still take off. My take though

Please go for the security job. It's not about the money only but bank security officers run shifts.

You can use your day time to search for better opportunities while you resume to work at night or afternoon.

Being a teacher means you will be in school from 8-3pm at least, if you're jot in school for 3hours the whole school will know thereby making it difficult for you to attend interviews or search for better

You want to further your education, less than a year of graduation? The Bsc you have what have you done with it? Collecting 20k salary. I don't know why lots of youths are so senseless..
First, how much will you save monthly that will be enough for your masters?
Secondly, after the Masters what next? Job will come? Big lie. Why not safe to start a small business or use the money to learn a skill .

op in this type of situations you should always weigh the ‘cons’ of remaining at your present state of employment. Something Like, What’s the worse that can happen while you:

Teach = a bunch of SS2 girls gang rape you till your dick breaks and you pass out (or you flog alahaji’s prized wife/daughter)

Security Guard = armed robbers use your life to count scores and walk over your corpse with huge bags of cash.

Choose your poison wisely. The two ugly scenarios only happen ONCE in the course of your employment and it’s over.

Life is a bed of roses but remember that roses have THORNS on their stems so lie on that bed softly lest you get pricked

It breaks my heart when I see young bloods settle for so little! What is 20k or even 40k in this difficult country.. You are even asking for advice on which to settle! You even have a 2:1....must you collect salary? Them take salary swear for you? This is my advice... Send that certificate to your mum to keep in her box for you then go and learn a trade, hand work or any craftsmanship.. Go and do boyi-boyi for some igbo folks even if the agreement does not involve settlement at least they will support you with goods on credit and they will teach u.
Dedicated two years of your life to what I have said and you will definitely be better off than taking that slave salary job that might leave you frustrated for years.

If you are an undergraduate reading this, please start learning something, acquire a new skill, meet traders and show interest, they will teach you also put that data to proper use by researching the internet, material for any thing on this planet can be found there..
The education you have acquired will be an added advantage.. Better research, presentation, proposals

J.O.B = just over broke
They are both meagre salaries, so just stick with the one that you think gives you greater joy and fulfilment.

Haha teacher don suffer oo..
So teacher and security don dey the same category now.
The reward of teachers is truly in heaven.
What if there's no heaven?
The kind harsh climes and intimidation you will see as security in a bank can make you give up on yourself...
The work sef is risky...
The risk plenty pass the money ooo...

Go for the securitymen Job. Its prestigious like the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Gate men, Amotekun Warriors etc. And also, you could scout for a better career when you are a security man, compared to the other SLAVE LABOUR in the name of TEACHING

My Opinion. though I know Nigerians no get sense, they love being Oppressed (9-5 Jobs)

Re: Between My Teaching Job And A Bank Security Job by deepwater(f): 8:55am On Mar 04, 2020
This is the sole aim of N-POWER
JUST TO BREAK YOU!
Nothing more, nothing less
The APC led government have successfully made young graduates feel they do not deserve more than NGN 30,000 per month.
Buhari pikin they use NAF1 go snap picture, the other one buy okada 50 million!
Them swear for una?!

how could we fall this low?!
a fresh 2.1 university graduate is in consideration of a mai guard work or a teaching job of less than a thousand naira per day!
wetin people wey no go school go come dey do?!

OP you have no fault here at all except u voted for this government.
this people are wicked, they have destroyed our economy so bad that a graduate has no worth!

these are my points to u:
1. You like to teach
2. Forget Master now
3. Look for small money and buy 2 desktop computers, 1 printer (color/b/w), copier, scanner and digital camera with printing aid
4. open a container shop in your school business center area
5. start there and do those things other are doing
6. when it starts moving fine (yes, it will) get a shop assistant to support you (congratulations, u are now a salary payer)
7. after a while, remember point no. 1 and open up a tutorial center for Jambites.
8. u can get intakes from those coming to your shop to register for jamb and other exams
9. expand your tutorial center to cover other scopes -home tutors / IELTS / mature students class etc etc.
10. when the business start running good, you will have money and when you have money you will decide on your own if to pursue master/further education or more money........nobody would advice you on this!

I think 99% of Nigerians chase further education for sake of good prospect to get a better salary / job than what they have and not for the knowledge itself. The remain 1% do it because someone else is paying the bill.

When you are comfortable in Nigeria, if person dey talk masters you go just shift comot.....

wetin you wan use masters do?
To excel on most job out there u need a tailored short course of maybe 10 days at most to be good at your capacity. undecided
what do i even know self

louken:
You didn't mention your age. Meanwhile, continue with your teaching job while hunting for better job

his age was actually his opening sentence!
na so una dey take fail exam, come begin find which school go accept pass for masters.....

Ekakamba:

Professional courses don't come cheap, I would have suggest he go for it.

please dont recommend any godam Professional courses, he is not a professional so he needs no professional courses
you type misled a lot 20 years ago!
i recall the HSE level 1,2,3 and Nebosh craze in Nigeria!
everybody that year was HSE qualified in paper and felt entitled to oil and gas job
that was the greatest MMM scam of that decade angry
they collect your money, give a paper and move on!

you have to be a professional first before taking those professional courses, else how could you hold a certificate in arc welding or underwater welding and u have never held a welding touch!

go figure out y most people fail ICAN, they have never worked real life accounting before...the exceptions are those with a different brain (yes, we are not all equal).

If you don't have serious financial obligations, if you don't have many financial dependants, continue with your teaching job. However, ensure that the working condition is not such that ties you down. You will have more time to hunt for better things.
The bank security job may sound more lucrative but it will end up tying you down and limiting your opportunities.
If you must take the security job, don't relax when you get there. Keep your options open. Sharpen your networking skills. Make friends with the professional staff. Make friends with high networth customers. Let them know you are job hunting. Let them know your qualifications. You never can tell.
Best wishes.
