proclinician:This is the northern paradox. They are busy building roads, that leads to nothing. Ganduje and El rufai are competing on who can blow more money on roads. 70-80% of their budget should be extended on poverty alleviation and Small scale business empowerment. I am yet to see a northern governor smart enough to do that. 15 Likes |

Arrewa: The fact that you rushed to use pictures to Express your feeble points shows how limited your IQ is. Did you study philosophy? You should if you are a graduate, which i doubt. Which fallacy do you think you are committing with your illogical generalized comparisons? FYI. There are slums in the US worse than some places in Abuja. Can we use such pictures to justify overall development btw the US and Nigeria? HELL NO!! Stop committing logical fallacies my friend and face the real numbers. Nobody is disputing the power of the northern elites. Nobody is saying, the richest (most institutionally corrupt) people dont come from there, but what use is the wealth when it is localized to 5% of your population? The north still operates a feudal system where power can only be transmitted through families. Its the reason why your elites support and empower poverty. Because the ignorance of your people only gives them more power. Thats the fact that the world bank numbers support, and if you want to counter, use numbers not some google pictures. 23 Likes |

Places that need roads infrastructure on a large scale is Abia, Ogun, anambra, Lagos, and a few states. They need it to connect already existing business districts and industries But 90% of the north is not even at that level yet. They need food first. 15 Likes |

Niccoloimhotep: once you become part of the government at the center - you start eating from the national cake- you will hate the country splitting so according to your advise - why cant we split amicably? for us to split - it can never be a friendly process - it can never be done by Nigerian leaders in 2000 years' there has to be a very bloody revolution - total break down of law and order based on regional discontentment - then the UN will step in and conduct a plebiscite for us to vote to secede - IF NOT, forget about it I believe OJUKWU made a huge mistake by not pushing hard enough to get France (Biafra's ally) to help him get to the UN and push for a referendum to have Biafrans vote on staying with or leaving Nigeria - he would have gotten the vote because 9 out of every 10 easterner was ready to leave then THAT WAS A BIG MISSED OPPORTUNITY!!!! - instead he focused on fighting ONLY!!!! 7 Likes |

The North is it's own worst enemy. The elites keep impoverishing their people so as to use them as willing political tools and their followers in turn don't question them due to their penchant for religious beliefs. The only way the North can get out of this economic doldrums is to invest in Human Capital Development such as investment in Education and relevant skills acquisition schemes. Armed with these knowledge they will in turn contribute immensely to their region instead of depending on Niger delta's oil money. This is how other countries with least resources developed with time. 6 Likes |

ProudDick: Captainrambo2: awujale231: God punish that useless core North for flaunting their self-inflicted poverty in the face of other regions and the global society often to the disadvantage of the SW,SE & SS Who imploded their Rice pyramids? Was it the South? OR wasn't it they who grew thoughtless, lazy and id1otic in exchanging their proud cultural heritages for the empty hateful, violence-ridden and unproductive war-mongering jihadist Sharia model that hasn't even helped many countries in its home region? If Hausa/Kanuri sold out to Islam-coated beggaring ideology from beyond the Sahara, should that be a problem to the rest of country? From Born2Rule to IDP Camps, it's on them. Hasn't it largely been the North that's controlled South-South Oil money for decades now? All the PTF funds diverted there by Saint Buhari, IBB & Abacha, couldn't they have elevated themselves with it? Right up to ProfOsibanjo's "poorest of the poor 10k" tradermoni incentives? OR should we start talking of the plight of the many peace-loving, progressive and culturally rich people groups they've destabilised and taken decades into backwardness just for sharing that region with them? Every time, Hausa/Kanuri/Fulani masses will be seeking sympathy and enjoying diversions of Relief Aid from all over, who remembers the Agatus, the Berom, the Tiv, Idoma, Tangale, Igala, Igede etc whose only curse has been sharing State and regional boundaries with these racially thoughtless vagabond locusts? The core North, their hateful thoughtless masses, the one million and one Almajiri imps they're whelping, they should all just go fuq themselves with their poverty; we don't care! Yankee101: You cannot be happy' - The Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido, Nigeria's second most-important Islamic monarch, has been an outspoken critic of governance in the region, blaming leaders for failing to tackle poverty. "Nobody who is a leader in northern Nigeria today can afford to be happy. You cannot be happy with about 87 per cent of poverty in Nigeria being in the north," he said in a speech last month. "You can’t be happy with millions of northern children out of school. You can’t be happy with nine states in the north contributing almost 50 percent of the entire malnutrition burden in the country." |

Arrewa: SMH. You can tell lies 1000 times and pretend to be the truth, but the truth will still not go away. The most dangerous thing to do is to lie to yourself in the face of the truth. Honestly speaking, a paradigm shift is needed in the north. The economic and human indices coming from the north is scary. I served in Yobe, so I crisscrossed most of the north eastern state. The leaders there need to seat tight and tell themselves the truth. The commoners shouldn't be a pawn in their political game. 3 Likes |
