You have to understand the Fulani man, anywhere he settles he takes on a bit of the culture and language of the host community.

In fact, in the core North some Fulani have become so "Hausanized" that they are almost indistinguishable from the indigenous Hausa people. It's a common occurrence.

That was how coneheaded structures were deceived in old Ilorin that prompted Afonja to pioneer 100m race in athletics.

Afonja was a high ranking military officer by today's standards.

Oyo's commander at Ilorin, Kakanfo (Field Marshal) Afonja, led a rebellion in 1817 that destroyed the unity of the empire. He was aided by Mallam Alimi (a Fulani from Sokoto), by Fulani warriors and mercenaries, and by Hausa soldiers.

Afonja, a high ranking military officer, lead a coup or rebellion against his people by teaming up with Northern elements. That is why till this day Northern elements dominate the land.
Nice one. but he was never a king.

Japan and Germany were countries long before the WWII and remained countries after the war. Unlike the idiotic stream of thought of the poster of above crap, Ndigbo were not constituted into a country of their own and never remained a country after the war. In addition, Ndigbo did not alone constitute Biafra. It is funny the writer of the above attachment, going by his/her name, hailed from the defunct eastern region of Nigeria. What a dunce.

When we speak of control and power, then we have to acknowledge that the Northern elements controls what happens in Illorin and by default Kwara.

There are historical reasons for this, but this is just a fact that the political direction of the city and the state is controlled from the Northern elements among the society.

This Northern control has shaped Kwara into a state very different from Oyo, Lagos, or Ogun.

Let's not rewrite history, culturally Illorin is very much a Northern state.
Culture means a way of life, hope you know that. I still went to offa last December so I'm pretty sure about these facts. they have an emir which is the only thing you've been hammering on.........Trying to paint a narrative to explain your point of view will only drive you away from the truth. why you adding so much irrelevant picture though, I'm curious?
This is the fact...70% of Kwara indigenes, speak Yoruba, bear Yoruba names and surnames, greet like Yorubas. the hausa's see their way of worship as being different, exactly similar behavioral patterns with next to no resemblance with their northern folks, except in instances where Yorubas and our northern brothers have similar behaviors... Your fact are weird......as for the issue of Fulani's dropping their culture for those of the indigenes of where they're settling, it's absolutely not true. the natural law of culture dominance suggests that in an area where they're multiple cultures, the dominant culture will eventually prevail, that's why minor tribes lose their culture fast, the Fulani are nomadic in nature, and as such they tend to be everywhere but nowhere. Presumptive knowledge is bad bro. Again, a fulani man does not decide to pick the culture of where they go, it's due to the dominance of a much larger culture. hope u get. very few were in Kwara, as such the very few fulanis lost their culture not even to the yoruba's but to the hausa's.....On the control of power, Kwara state had always maintained some level of independence, except in these last two elections where they were influenced by Lagos politics. Kwara is not influenced or control by the north, in fact, they're one of the few north central states that are not.

What constituted the ancient kingdom of Oyo would today be considered as Yoruba, what consisted of the Sokoto Caliphate is rightfully what and who we call the "Northerners".

That's how the Brittish set it up when they queried the owners of the lands, they saw themselves as Northerners first.

So it's not our place to tell them what they are or where they should belong.

We should respect them and their wishes instead of imposing any singular identity on them.

i think you and Born2Breed are actually kinda right. The Yoruba tribe located in Edo state is a minority tribe. Unlike the Yorubas in other states, the Yorubas in Edo state are politically and economically disadvantaged. The Yoruba tribe in Edo is located in a part of Edo that is close to Ore in Ondo state. Although these people speak the Yoruba language, their dialect is influenced by the Bini language.

Geographically if you are heading North from Atlantic you go well past Ilorin before reaching Oyo Ile.

Oyo Ile was closer to River Niger than Ilorin is.

In fact Jebba which is right on River Niger bank has an Oba. So Afenifere has a good point in asking Kwara Governor to join Amotekun.

Leave Kwara out of this, because they aren't part of south west but north and an extension of the caliphate.
