Death Is a criteria to enjoy the first Ressurection which 1Corinthians 15 is all about.

" Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection . Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. (Revelation 20:6 NKJV)

To be a king and rule with Christ for the thousand years , they must experience a Ressurection. So when he says some won't sleep, he is not saying they won't die, but rather unlike those who spent long period in the grave. They would be Ressurection in the twinkling of an eye.
