Nice expose!

However, in modern times, it's so obvious that Constitutional Democracy and Unconstitutional Monarchy can not flow together.

The way the Emir of Kano was demystified says much about the waning down of monarchy.

What are you talking about

Sanusi belittled himself the very day he accepted to be crowned emir. He is too educated, enlightened, civilized and trendy to head a traditional institution that promotes primitiveness, old customs and values. So rather than him upholding old customs and traditions he was practically fighting them because of his exposure to modern reality.

For instance, traditional customs in most climes expect the females not to be seen or heard, but modern reality (and Sanusi) does not support this view. Gov. Ganduje did what the average Nigeria politician are known for- CRUSHING OF EVERY DISSENTING VOICE AND PERCEIVED POLITICAL ENEMY.

Hmmmm...m Investigative journalism...

Only leaders with wisdom and understanding stay long on their throne...

Only leaders who had good source of income stay long on their throne till death comes...

But when a rich critics become a leader, he is threat to the state... A critics leader never last on the throne... They are always prepared for being dethroned anytime. Sequentially, not with banishment from his state of origin...

Just that the government of nowadays are wise using their constitutional power before any court judgement...

Avoid BBC / CNN / Aljazeera
They are all intricately linked to slavery and would never change.

Encourage the break up of Nigeria.

It might just save your life

There are regions where the King has lost their powers not all regions. Remove a king? It is never possible in th benin kingdom not even in states like Anambra... Can the governor remove alafin iku baba yeye?... Where the kings are strictly by heritance, the governor has no such power as to remove them from their thrones..

Beautiful article by BBC. As far as I am concerned, there are no kings in Nigeria. They are best local traditional rulers who are over rated and hyped beyond measure. You can't claim to be a king when you don't control any army, you can't protect your kingdom from Fulani herdsmen and bandit rather you cry to the elected state and local govt leaders to come to your rescue.

What befell the emir of kano can happen to oba of Benin, ooni of ife, oba of Lagos, Alaafin of Oyo, oba of warri, obi of Onitsha. We keep budgeting and wasting money on these kings without a corresponding input from them to development and progress.

That is different.

If you are into contracts, you will know that Nigerian contractors and Engrs are deliberately dubious.

The reason Chinese get awarded these contracts is because they actually do those jobs cheaper, faster and qualitatively than most.

I am an Engr but i dont blame our government, I have seen terrible Nigerian Engineering jobs and even the ones who collect mobilization and are never seen again. The ones who will do it deliberately do a bad job to maximize profit. European contractors have high standards but very expensive example; Julius Berger.

The day african kings decided to sell their own people as slaves, is the day they sold their right to kingship forever.

Which great leader with vision sells his own people, when he has great dreams to acheive that will require that same human workforce?

Can you imagine Genghis Khan selling away his people to get a gun or a mirror ?

Kings are outdated and useless to africa. Not because there is no use merit in tradition but because they have proven over and over again that they are visionless and therefore worthless.

The African Mentalist.

The same BBC that was used by British colonial masters to modify the hitherto organised traditional systems to suit their looting sprees, amalgamating unrelated rulerships calling them Nigeria after a round of sex by an slowpoke called Luggard and his girlfriend Shaw, using indirect rule in the North.

100% correct sir, go to government House and see how oba's hustle for contracts, make fake promises and speak elaborate of themselves through tales of lies as if they are semi-god. Only to fail at the end, all they brag about is palace, cars and money. So the have reduced themselves to nobody in the circle of power. And this is just the beginning

There are few Nigerian undercover journalists.. there is one guy I can't really remember his name on twitter, he exposed the rots at yaba pyschratic hospital and a prison among many others with video evidences amidst others, in both cases,he spent four weeks there...there are a lot of them out there but the fear of government has made all of them to relocate
