I've seen a couple threads now asking Nigerians abroad how they are "coping" with the unprecedented spread of this viral infectious thing called Coronavirus.. and on reading most of the posts, I've observed the sarcasm and subtle gloating of Nigerians back home as they delight in the potential downfall of Western countries while subtly mocking Nigerians abroad for moving overseas for a better life now there's an outbreak.

Nigerians abroad, please know that even your so called friends and family back home who call/text you to ask 'how far' are not doing so out of genuine care.. they want to hear bad news, they want to hear how devastating things are or that you've potentially caught the virus, so they can feel better about their pathetic situation back home while comforting themselves that they 'escaped' a bad situation by never getting the opportunity to move abroad. They just want to be assured that their own situation is better than yours!

There will always be a few exceptions to the rule as some people do genuinely care for their relatives abroad, but what I've stated is the absolute truth for the vast majority.

It's a poor mentality for anyone here in Nigeria to think like that.
It's a defeatist mentality.

Between the Nigerians-in-Nigeria doing the mocking and the Nigerians-in-Diaspora feeling mocked, I'm really having a hard time figuring out which of these two groups is suffering more from acute schizophrenia.

I wonder how folks will sample the opinions of some nairalanders n claim they are speaking for the entire home based Nigerians. The no of Nigerians returning with covid 19 should at least inform them that some people earn their living by interacting with the world, n some actually have loved ones there.

Couldn't even wish Ill on the Italians way I no sabi but I'll be gloating on my country man. lipsrsealed

Not true! Naijans abroad need to get over themselves, people at home are focusing on how to better their lives. No one has the energy to focus emotions on wishing you evil.

@Bold:

Nigerians in Nigeria: NIN
Nigerians in Diaspora: NID

NIN who think like this and NID who think NIN think like this WITHOUT CONCRETE PERSONAL EVIDENCE are both exhibiting signs of witchcraft.

Where do you fall so I know if you fly local airways or international airways.

Believe me bro, I know and I guess a lot of others in diaspora know about this your opinion.

Don't worry, that we eat pizza and cheese burger like oyibo doesn't make us mumu.

None of my so called cousins and friends back home has checked up on me since the outbreak (at least before it was in Nigeria too) but they will be quick to call as soon as they are in need.

It's all good. smiley

Please don't be ignorant of facts even as it's glaring at you. Oyinbo has more old people? Blacks don't grow old? Statistically more blacks and other ethnic minorities have died of this pandemic than whites

I totally don't agree with you! I can't wish any of my relatives abroad or even those in diaspore this Evil called CoronaVirus. Rather most Nigeria are wishing that those in corridors of power that should take care of our welfare as nation but failed to do so should get the bite of this virus! No genuine Nigerian is wishing fellow Nigerians in diaspora such evil. I don't agree with. No True Nigeria have such time...Every body is talking about how our political atmosphere should change with the recent happenings at Aso Rock. If you feel I'm not right, please bring up evidence to back up what you said. Thank You!
