I consider Manu Dibango to be one of the 4 great legends of African music. The others are Fela Anikulapo-Kuti of Nigeria, Hugh Masekela of South Africa and Miriam Makeba also of South Africa.

Manu Dibango's 1972 classic, Soul Makossa, was a worldwide hit and he won a Grammy Award for it.

Michael Jackson stole a portion of the song for his hit "Startin Something" and Dibango sued him, but the matter was settled out of court. Michael Jackson then granted Rihanna the right to use that portion of the song in her hit, "Please Don't Stop The Music" and Dibango sued both Michael and Rihanna.

He has been based in Paris, France since at least the 1970s.

Manu Dibango (12 December 1933 – 24 March 2020)

Emmanuel N'Djoké Dibango (12 December 1933 – 24 March 2020) was a Cameroonian musician and songwriter who played saxophone and vibraphone. He developed a musical style fusing jazz, funk, and traditional Cameroonian music. His father was a member of the Yabassi ethnic group, though his mother was a Duala. He was best known for his 1972 single "Soul Makossa". He died of Covid-19 on 24 March 2020.

Waiting for Abba Kyari....He is over 70 years....

Somebody should wake me up when it is all over for him.

You might even die before him. Keep wishing others bad luck and see it boomerang on you.

I beg to differ. A non Yoruba boy brought up by a cosmopolitan father, I grew up with 8 - track and vinyl albums of Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade, Victor Olaiya, Cardinal Rex Jim Lawson, etc.
Please tell me why you feel they are not authentic African legends.

God will have to health the Land, we have no capacity to handle this coronavirus , even the rich is just catching it easily

From the 40 case reported so far , I believe like 95 percent of them will have over 5million in there account (that why they can easily travel around the world) if this coronavirus cross over to the poor it will be a more serious thing

So beginning to take more precautionary measure

If by Friday we get to 65 Case then we should be planning and praying for the worst

May God heal Nigeria
My brother 5 million no be money.
Even Small small boys trading hold that kind money.
May be you mean 50 million

you fail to mention the greatest of them all the anquelina kuido

Has not even gotten nearly to their level.

Look at the people he mentioned below. These people are on the next level below Dibango, Masekela, Fela and Makeba.

Please add King Sunny Ade to the list

These are the people that are on the next level.

Of all the people that you mentioned, only King Sunny Ade came close to having the kind of global impact that the 4 pioneers, Fela, Masekela, Makeba and Dibango had. Many of the people that you mentioned are not even known outside Nigeria.

I do agree that they are legends, but they are not at the level of the 4 pioneers.
