This is not about age at all!!

Who said anything about age?

Miriam Makeba was persecuted by the oppressive apartheid government of South Africa. They revoked her citizenship! Several countries around the world rushed to offer her citizenship. Ms Makeba won Grammy awards in 1965 and in 1966, at the height of racism! She made hits in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. She was still being nominated for Grammy Awards in the 2000s. Do you know how difficult it is to remain relevant over so many decades as music tastes change??

God will have to health the Land, we have no capacity to handle this coronavirus , even the rich is just catching it easily

From the 40 case reported so far , I believe like 95 percent of them will have over 5million in there account (that why they can easily travel around the world) if this coronavirus cross over to the poor it will be a more serious thing

So beginning to take more precautionary measure

If by Friday we get to 65 Case then we should be planning and praying for the worst

May God heal Nigeria

God does not have to do anything, at least not unless he promised. And his promises are usually tied to a counter-obligation on the part of human beings.

As Nigerians we carry religion on our heads but we are arguably the most dishonest, the most hypocritical nation-group on earth. Since 1960, trillions of naira meant for health care, education & infrastructure have been continuously stolen by bible- and quoran-thumping politicians (with the active collaboration of regular citizens like you and me).

Nigeria as a nation has less than 500 respirators to a population of 150 million plus. It's now time to reap the fruits of sixty years of hypocrisy and greed, nobody can fōōl God or cajole him into action on their behalf, you will always reap whatever you sow!

I consider Manu Dibango to be one of the 4 great legends of African music. The others are Fela Anikulapo-Kuti of Nigeria, Hugh Masekela of South Africa and Miriam Makeba also of South Africa.

Manu Dibango's 1972 classic, Soul Makossa, was a worldwide hit and he won a Grammy Award for it.

Michael Jackson stole a portion of the song for his hit "Startin Something" and Dibango sued him, but the matter was settled out of court. Michael Jackson then granted Rihanna the right to use that portion of the song in her hit, "Please Don't Stop The Music" and Dibango sued both Michael and Rihanna.

He has been based in Paris, France since at least the 1970s.

How will you just make that inference that there is no legend in Africa?

So, Nelson Mandela, Chinua Achebe and all the likes are not legends anymore?

Really?

Is that what you mean to say

Has not even gotten nearly to their level.

Look at the people he mentioned below. These people are on the next level below Dibango, Masekela, Fela and Makeba.

These are the people that are on the next level.

Of all the people that you mentioned, only King Sunny Ade came close to having the kind of global impact that the 4 pioneers, Fela, Masekela, Makeba and Dibango had. Many of the people that you mentioned are not even known outside Nigeria.

I do agree that they are legends, but they are not at the level of the 4 pioneers.

Here's what Angelique Kidjo had to say about Manu Dibango (almost the same words that I used).

Besides, re Angelique Kidjo's Grammys, she has won Grammy Awards in the World Music category. That category came into being in 1992!

If that category existed in the 1960s and '70s, Mariam Makeba would have won it almost every year. You don't know how difficult it was for an African artiste to reach a global audience and be recognised at that time.

There's a reason that Angelique Kidjo called Manu Dibango the original giant of African music. She knows what she's talking about and that's the same reason that the 4 that I mentioned (you can add Franco to the list) are the original legends of African music.
