Funny enough I came in contact with someone from UK two day ago, it didn't occur to me tell now. Fear come dey catch me now. It was even unexpected my aunt just showed up from UK without informing anyone. She's not even sef isolating wahala dey.
You should advise your family to start self isolation and to watch out for symptoms. I believe a lot of people in Nigeria right now have contracted this virus without reporting it.

In one of the hot zones in the US and we all know there’s much more to come simply because Trump administration was lax about the situation and the CDC delayed testing and rejected WHO test kits that was in other countries several weeks before.

The incubation period is what deceives a lot of people. The people infected by the third case in Nigeria and all those in the plane who most likely refused to self isolate would start falling sick two weeks later. Imagine the ripple effect. Lagos would be a feast for the virus!

What every country has realized is that they are already behind and are taking drastic measures to mitigate the spread but let’s talk about economy and imports and bank balance, welcoming those from those countries to come do business.

Only fools think countries that are shutting down don’t value economic growth. Smh for some comments here.
Nairalandmonika:
All new case around you?
What does that mean

You are very foolish, shey is until we have 30 thousand case like Italy b4 u will have sense. If things get bad 4 us like Italy, then the whole country will be put on sef quarantine 4 at least 30 day. No business activities of any kind, no school no church no nothing. That's when u will have sense. People are closing borders to prevent what's happening in Italy to happen to them u dey here dey yarn dust. You don't know anything so just STFU.
Italy isnt nigeria.

If the whole country is on lockdown, no business activities, how are you going to eat, how are you going to buy drugs and things to protect yourself.

If country is shutdown, how will govt create revenue to pay workers in the health sector that will fight the disease.

If total lock down happens here in nigeria, know that many will suffer from starvation than the covid 9

Please don't misinform people. Cargo flights are going on ans seaports remain open all over the world even to.those countries that have shut their borders.

Passenger travel is not necessary to import or export essential commodities. Our oil continues to go out everyday. That is not sanctioned by any country. The lines of trade are established so there is no need for human interventions except when things go wrong.
I think you are mistaken,

Oil price has fallen because of low demand due to covid 9

Low demand lead to less money for government.

Less money for govt means govt Wont be able to service their external debt, pay salaries, service the budget.

Meaning, we will be in a recession, private companies will also be affected, jobs will be cut off.

Govt is trying to avoid recession, because if we go broke, everyone will suffer.

You want govt to totally shut down nigeria months, how will govt make money, how will they pay salaries and service their external debt especially when their is an oil crises

Developed countries can afford to shut down some part of their economy because they don't depend on revenue from oil to survive.

We depend on oil sales and presently money from oil is small, govt need other revenue from other sources to survive or it won't be able to run lot of facilities to protect you from contacting the disease.

Ah, is that not exactly what am saying, the only way to prevent lock down is to block our borders to international flight. Only citizen should be allowed into the country.
Is like you don't know the difference between lock down and block border.
Lock down means no one is allowed to go out or leave the country.
Blocking the border meand restricting international flights from affected countries.
You are just confusing yourself, most of us are clamoring for travel ban or travel restrictions so as to prevent a lock down.

i think you are mistaken

border- a line separating two countries, administrative divisions, or other areas

border are always used for land not for air, so how does blocking border stop international flight

lockdown-A lockdown is an emergency protocol that usually prevents people or information from leaving an area

a lockdown will be disastrous for nigerians

government have issue travel ban to citizens of 13 countries infectd by corona

but governemt didnt stop nigeria businessmen from going there

govt know the implication of an economy shut down.

Finally, they've woken up... I just pray it's not too late.

Sometimes I just marvel at some people's level of reasoning, you argue and support the government not closing down the border to some countries just because of economic reasons, meanwhile those countries, with their level of medical, economic etc advancement have shut down theirs.

These people want to let in alot of Coronavirus victims before declaring a lockdown.
Exactly what USA and Italy did. Italy has the highest case in Europe currently.

Where will you spend your eternity?

Wow! it’s been barely a week now but how’s the economy and the delayed but inevitable lockdown going with your imports, exports and businesses now?

Brace yourself because it’s going to get worse ... for everybody, globally. Stay at home wouldn’t work in Nigeria shay, maybe until you start seeing people dying from the virus

sexylassie2:
I think, you miss the point of the border closure, people importing by road (half of the goods were foreign rice and goods we could produce in Nigeria)

But govt didn't stop Nigerian companies from exporting their raw materials and finished goods to other African countries by road.

This present case we have is different, every sector of Nigerian economy will be affected if there is a total lockdown

It seems you are not seeing the effect of the lockdown.

Many companies are losing big time, some people wont have salary at the end of the month.

In the coming weeks, there will be an increase in infection rate even with the lockdown

It also means salaries won't be paid to people for months.
Re: Public Health Advisory To Nigerians On Coronavirus Disease by CptCharlesVane: 5:29pm On Mar 25, 2020
But these could have been avoided if the lockdown was done much earlier. Read my earlier comments. Italy made the mistake, Spain, UK, the US and all the victims have been screaming advising others, like Nigeria, that had time to lockdown and not let the virus in.

But, even in Africa we were the slowest to respond, still letting flights in and inviting Italians and Chinese for business. You were talking about imports and business, stay tuned because in the coming months only food and medicine and other essentials would be the things that matter to everyone, not business or imports, cars or even freedom to move around.

By the way, the extremely late response from Nigeria would be enforced by soldiers because if they don’t the deaths would be unprecedented. Seems you still think the countries that have shutdown their economies for weeks don’t have poor and homeless people and don’t like business, it’s only Nigeria that likes business.

‘Hunger would kill more people than the virus’ is a myth. This is war and serious countries consider it as such. Look at the numbers of people dying daily in countries with some of the best healthcare systems in the world and so much money, then take a honest look at Nigeria, you should get the picture.

Also the Buhari led government failed to pay the initial sacrifice of a lockdown. Right now, Donald Trump is seriously considering the cost of containing the pandemic in US against the 2% mortality rate of the virus, that would be 8 million people in the US as the sacrifice to get the country’s economy going again. Italy’s mortality rate is fastly approaching 10% and they have more beds per head than the US and one of the best healthcare systems in the world.

Do the math in Nigeria and guess the mortality rate with our healthcare system the president never believed in, and then see why everyone was clamoring for a lockdown earlier.

It is now a choice between death of a significant number of people, or let nature/coronavirus run its course for the economy to work. You’ve been arguing for the latter without even knowing. But then again, without a lockdown, only living and non-sick people do business and work for businesses and even so, sick people infect healthy people at work.

So, We are all fücked! All of us, the world over.
