The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would ensure that food production and distribution won’t be affected in the fight against coronavirus.

He said this in a press statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Thursday.

Other things that Buhari said would not be allowed to suffer are production and distribution of food, medications and medical equipment.

The retired general commended Nigerians for their “unity of purpose in fighting spread of COVID-19 in the country, particularly the willingness for self-isolation, social distancing, and contributions of public-spirited individuals and institutions.”

The statement added, “While calling for more compliance with regulations and restrictions on movement and gatherings for the safety of all citizens, President Buhari further reassures that government directives will not affect production and distribution of food, medications, medical equipment and other essentials as the nation wades through the global health challenge, which already portends dire economic strains.

The President directs all relevant agencies and regulators to provide an enabling environment for industries to sustain their operations by ensuring reasonable access to industrial supplies and inputs like water, fuel, gas and essential infrastructure and relaxing of stringent laws, commending the Central Bank of Nigeria and commercial banks for the interventions to make forex and credit more accessible to those on the manufacturing line.

“In giving assurances of firm support for the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria by proactively addressing the potential impact of the pandemic on the Nigerian economy, the President requests that all necessary measures be put in place to protect and promote the health and safety of industrial workers.”

*Two worlds.*

Some are staying indoor with 24hrs electricity supply and emergency services operational.

They can easily place orders online or make calls if they run out of supplies (food/groceries/toiletries) or need medical attention with thousands of volunteers (delivery guys/health workers/police) responding.

Another world, citizens are scared of staying indoor, how are they going to survive indoors for a month.

No electricity, no money, no food.

If they run out of supplies or they need medical attention, who are they going to call

I see some people breaking out of the lockdown after 1-2months and breaking into various stores to survive. But i pray it won't get to that

Okay we are waiting. In other news, Pastor WF Kumuyi has agreed to go to Abuja to lay hands on the patients who are down with Corona Virus. He will lay hands on Abba Kyari and he will be healed. God has finally answered our prayers.

Easier said....
Dats nt d problem now, how affordable will food items be through dis times? Where do pipul get d fund to purchase fud items wen dey aren't going to work considering a larger % of our citizens survive on daily incomes?
It's easy for some of us to come on here nd shout 'stay at home' cos we can cope, but 4 some of us it's relatively a death sentence.

Food is really important
Once you deprive people to food,
They are bound to do anything
E.g looting

We pray it doesn't come to that

For more joke, text USELESS FG to CONVIKK 1-9.
As useless as this government is, it loves living in denials. You are asking people to stay indoors just when the raining season is setting in and you say food production and distribution will not be affected. Whereas other nations are admitting the negative impact the pandemic would cause their countries and are already approving monies to stimulate their economies, our own government led by a gworo chewing dunce is "talking in the rubbish".
It still beats me that a man who didn't look up to other nations in banning the importation of rice, which had since caused hunger in the land and forced poor local rice on us, could wait to see other nations responses before closing our borders. Now see where that reckless decisions has landed us.
Modified

MusaChukwudi:

So you want to abandon "poor local rice" so you can continue to import the "fantastic pure clean rice" from Thailand and India? Where is your brain? If we cannot produce food for ourselves then what are we existing for?

Because of Corona virus every country has banned export of their food, medicine, ppe. A time will come when the world will leave us to starve to death. Too many Nigerians are idiots which explains why the country is in such a wretched state.
Where did you keep your brain f_ol with servitude mentality? Do Buhari and Abba Kyari eat local rice? Did you not hear that Kyari had not medical records in any Nigerian hospital? Don't we have hospital in Nigeria? Don't we have Nigerian cars? Does Buhari or even Kyari use one? God pun_sh you for using your brainlessness to aske where is my brain. Ozuo.
Do you even know what is called "Comparative Cost Advantage"? If you had small sense in that your empty head, you would have known that importation is not completely bad. If it was, where is our exportation going to? If Thailand produces rice cheaper than Nigeria, you buy Thailand rice and produce what you can produce more cheaper compared to Thailand and other countries, like palm oil, beans etc, and sell same to them. Go and get sense.
