The management of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, through its Twitter handle @LOSairport, had on Thursday afternoon tweeted that there would be a special repatriation flight and that the aircraft would come in from Cotonou, Benin Republic, for the operation.

A letter of approval from the ministry dated March 26 and obtained by The PUNCH, showed that there would be similar flights on April 2 and April 9, 2020.

The ministry however ordered the airline to operate strictly based on the protocol guiding such operations under COVID-19.

It was gathered that the pilot and crew were not allowed to disembark and that after facilitation, the nationals were escorted to the aircraft to board.

In an emailed response to our correspondent’s enquiries, Air France said, “Due to COVID-19, Air France is doing all it can to ensure French and European nationals currently abroad can return home.

“Air France teams all over the world are fully mobilised and are doing all they can to assist French and European nationals at this difficult time. Air France is working together with the French and international authorities to adapt its flight schedule in real time in line with the evolving situation and the new restrictions imposed on airlines.”

The General Manager, Public Relations of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Sam Adurogboye, said the flight was captured under essential operations which could only be approved by the minister.

He said, “They obtained special clearance for the flight. During this period, every flight that comes will be under special clearance.

“We are in a period of emergency and in section 36 of Nigerian Civil Aviation Act, the minister has power to approve or clear flights in emergency. the NCAA will then process the clearance after the approval.”

The NCAA had last week issued a circular that all international airports should remain closed to international flights till further notice.

Exemptions were however made for humanitarian, medical relief, cargo, technical and safety flight operations.

Nigeria population as of 2020 should be around 220million .

So I expect Buhari to credit every Nigerian Atleast N100k through their BVN as a stimulus package to ease the suffering and frustration that comes with the "Sit at home order' like other leaders in the rest of the world are doing for their citizens .

But this is Nigeria where the president of the day got more interest and love for cows and his household only

We miss Goodluck Ebele Jonathan .

And somebody is arguing that Buhari and Abba Kyari could not have been smuggled out of the country.
i said it that with the necessary arrangement and cash, the duo could be in any country willing to accept them.

They should go and leave us completely. We are capable of handling our situation and building our country to greatness. We don't need foreigners. And for the first Nigeria's political leaders and the well to do Individuals are trusting the system fully to handle the situation. No body is traveling out for Medicals. They want to be treated in Nigeria. This KARMA Is a Rapist, see what it is doing to them. The hospitals they refused to fix, they are now compared to do it. KARMA indeed is still alive.

The Nigerian government should sit up and stop giving us excuses. It is because they took this infection for granted that they are looking for 4000+ people. 4000+ in two days becomes 8000+. In the next two days that's 16000+.
That's how quick the virus spreads.

This virus is essentially World War 3 and the battle is fought on different continents.

I was happy with what you said until you mentioned GEJ. But at least he would have been a much better, no, less worse option than this government

Where are they evacuating them to? Is the EU safer? The only place safe is outer space. Maybe they are evacuating them to Mars or the Sun.
