I am so disappointed by Nigerians, if u carry out a proper research or watch Discovery channel, u will know that the dept of the crater and the impact on the distance building can only be cause by one thing, A MINI ASTEROID!
The dept of that crater and the shock wave on the building roofs is the force generated by an asteroid..... It was the biggest asteroid that destroy dinasour worldwide.

A truck loaded with multiple explosive will create a multiple explosion and all the building will be destroyed completely. And the bomb cannot create such a crater

You were making sense, untill this...

uunwanaobong3:

except some very very very powerful bomb which can only be handle USA or Russian army and it is rare to find

Abeg no talk this nonsense for outside oohh

This is undoubtedly a meteorite strike, the impact crater, reports of loud and bright light, followed by a shock wave. Fact that we aren't too scientifically inclined about all this out world rock bodies, this happens in the upper hemisphere all the time...

Wow!
A better means of transportation of such huge amounts of explosives should be devised. This is just too dangerous.
What if this happened in a more populated area?
The story in that link happened 49yrs ago..
Those days, dynamites were transported in their explosive form..
These days, dynamites are transported in bags in very nonexplosive forms.. If they catch fire, they would just speedily burn out without exploding.

This is possibly another terrorist attack because the depth of the explosion site is more than a truck size that police claimed it to be. While the Abúlé Ado explosion remained a mystery as govt could not ascertain the course.

This explosion looks similar to the one at Abule Ado in Lagos. I suspect it's the same group that are carrying out these bomb attacks. I suspect the Miyetti Allah. The Nigeria Police is just trying to cover up in order to avoid angry revenge attacks on innocent Northerners resident in the Southwest.

People this is the right thread to ask this question. When I was young, living in Ogoja cross river state, some few minutes past six after a light rain shower something unimaginable came from the sky like a huge ball of red light creating a thunder like noise in the sky and landed in an open grassland creating partial darkness by creating half current to electricity supply throughout the small town of Igoli. The impact was huge and threatening and it happened few meters away from our house.

The following day, I went to the location to ascertain what hit the town only to discover a football shaped ball of steel buried in a meter hole sweeping the entire area with shockwaves. I was able to hull it out of the hole but too heavy, I just dropped it there and went away.

The little town believe it was a lightning strike but only me saw what landed cos it happened at close proximity with me witnessing first hand.

Now my people, who can tell what it is. A smooth ball of steel?

That's alienware, honey.

If you were science/tech inclined you would have taken the round steel. You never know if it was advanced alien tech.

SUMMARY OF THE FINDINGS FROM THE BLAST SITE AT AKURE

From the Blast site at Akure. My Research group carried out a detailed analysis of the impact site. A circular impact crater with 21m diameter and 7.8m depth was found which suggest a natural phenomenal. Water was found oozing out from the edges of the crater. A preliminary insitu vibration, noise, seismicity, water analysis, radioactivity studies, rock and soil investigation were carried out. Our findings suggest that the impact of the blasting covers 1km radius of the surroundings of the crater. No evidence of fire or Burning of anything was found within the vicinity. No evidence of radioactivity radiation was found within the crater and immediate vicinity. The field evidence point to a conclusion that A METEORIC FROM AN ASTEROID BELT THAT TRAVELS AT A GREAT SPEED FROM SPACE IMPACTED THE LOCATION AT AN ANGLE OF 43 degrees created an ejecta at South-Western part. No evidence of buried vehicle, buried ordinance or IED was found. However, crack opening that vary in thickness from 3mm to 4metres occurs on the wall of most of the buildings but not at the base of the buildings. Also, foreign rocks and strange metallic objects we're found within the crater. Most of the destruction occurs on top and roof/ceilings of the buildings. Thank you, Professor Adepelumi A. A (Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife).

I know a truckbomb will create a crater too. I'm even familiar with this image you posted. However, there'll have to be a ton load of explosives on such a truck to form a crater that deep and wide. And there'll still be fire.

Yes that's why trucks are used as the vehicle if choice because of its tonnage capacity to carry the huge IED..there won't be a huge fire if there is nothing combustible there , remember it was an open road without vegetation

All these analysis is meaningless. You are talking about high velocity/low velocity. What do you think dynamites meant for blasting hard rocks will do? these things aren't toys.
Dynamites are very high explosives that's why they are widely used in mining.

The explosion caused by one stick of dynamite is really massive. Imagine what happens when a truck loaded with hundreds of sticks catches fire.
stop arguing what you don't know. The guy is right, I have worked at the "mines" too, so he's right.

That bomb was mistakenly dropped from military aircraft.
Its aircraft payload bombs that used to dig large holes on impact.

We can find sites like these in Belgium,Poland and Ukrane years after WW2 as a result of Amerian aircrafts bombardments.

There were no casualties because the police EOD team escorting the shipment said that when they noticed smoke from the engine of the truck, they had to move it as far as possible from where there are houses before clearing by the road.

They then tried to stop the smoke but we're unsuccessful as a small fire started coming out of the engine.

At this point, the EOD police advised that they move very far away from the truck with the rest of the vehicles knowing fully well it would explode.

This account was given by the Ondo State Police Commissioner and it makes sense.

The fragments of the blown up truck must have landed miles away from the explosion site so you cannot find a wrecked lying there.

The only way they will say they cant find just a piece of the truck and explosives is if they were blown out of nigeria into Atlantic ocean.....That's so dumb

Hi everyone, I am from Canada and have been doing some research on these crater type formations. I believe its caused by an electrical explosion from natural bacteria in the ground called geobacter.
There are many kinds of geobacters. Some eat sulfur, some eat metal. They are being used in fuel cells to produce electricity and grow without air. I think when an area floods the bacteria is deposited and grows in the soil if conditions are right. A big charge can build up if it connects with water in the soil and explosion occurs. You can see there was some kind of energy escaping at the edge where the groove was.
I don't believe meteorite. If there is metal bits found it may be metal ore in the soil that fused from pulse. The governments do not want you to know about this material because any person who uses it can produce electricity if they make a fuel cell.
I was wondering if there is a stream or pond in the direction the groove was heading?

Lol, don't be ridiculous, if its a meteorite, of course you will see the meteorite there
Again, meteorites don't displace soil particles in any way, meteorites solidify soil particles and kind of push the whole thing inside, making a hole

Well judging from the size of the crater and the extensive damage caused to buildings, which were some considerable distance away, I believe that there must have been a huge shock wave generated by the explosion.
I wonder who would bear the responsibility for the damages and how soon the hapless people affected would be given some respite.
PS.. the looming lockdown of the nation wont help matters either.
Unfortunately my dad had a shock from the bomb blast, feeling sad right now.
