20% of social media users and shoppers have been scammed at one point or the other, either large bucks or small money and It's quite painful.
Many people don't always know what to do, so today am sharing with you things you do, when you realize a page you paid for a service or goods is ghosting you:

*1. Screenshot all previous chats across all messaging app (IG and WhatsApp or FB).*


*2. Write out the Full name and account number of the page or person.*


*3. Go to the last notification your bank sent you after you made the payment (via mobile app or text)*


*4. copy out the "TRANSACTION ID NUMBER".*


*5. Go to any branch of the scam artist's bank (the bank the scammer uses), ask to see the CUSTOMER SERVICE in charge of FRAUD.*


*6. If you can, print out all those chats with the scammer, and submit it. While you are there, send an email to SCAMMER'S BANK and copy CBN FRAUD DESK (anticorruptionunit@cbn.org)*

This will ginger the bank to take it up fast.
What should you expect from this? The culprit/suspects account will be PLACED ON HOLD. Meaning he/she cannot transfer or withdraw until they visit the bank, and when they do, the bank will contact the police and the suspect when proven guilty will sign a waiver allowing the bank to refund your money.

Always protect ur card details.
All that is needed to carry out transactions with ur card is the last 6 digits if ur card,card Security and expiry date.

The truth bro is, a friend of yours is into yahoo. He probably got hold of your ATM card. Copied the details.. Send it to some of his accomplice in Mexico to clone it and boom they start spending.

There are some specific bank Card BIN (BANK IDENTIFICATION NUMBER) the first 6 digit of your atm that is easier to clone. They call it dumping of tracks. Track 1 track 2. This way they don't even need a code otp to spend your card. Once this type of card is cloned. They swipe it at a POS joint to spend

Bro, the transaction was possibly done online on a foreign merchant's website or app.
Like someone said, write a letter to your bank (email would do), copy efcc, and CBN (there is a department that handles such). Your letter should be firm. Tell them to reverse the transaction, and give them 7days to credit your account.

You may also visit any public complaints Commission office closest to you. They have handled several cases like that, absolutely free.

Other banks may compromise your account with your account number, bvn or card details being exposed but i can vouch for GTB, you can't do anything on their account without pin or OTP...

Sometimes it will require you both Pin and OTP to complete a transaction.

You are a liar, I used my GTB card to buying hosting package from namecheap and it was debited no pin was requested or otp was sent, just the number on the front and bank with the name on card. It was even more shocking because the address I used is different from the one on the card but it was still fluidly debited.

Exactly this same issue happened to my roommate, his phone was snatched on Sunday and he didn't even took it serious by blocking all his bank account and all, he waited till Monday and went to the ATM to withdrew money so he could go and buy another phone. It was at that point he noticed that most of his funds had been withdrawn. He complaint to the bank and the bank was asking for police report and all for the stolen phone, they thought it was a joke...He wrote NIBSS, wrote CBN narrating his ordeal that how could someone that doesn't know his pin could have performed such fraudulent act if not that their system isn't secure...The case was dragged for over a month, but in the end they paid him his 440k withdrawn fraudulently + 100k inconvenience fee ( that's not the actual name)... But had to do with the emotional instabilities that he might have gone through. So please press a hot charges against them, they don't like such

How did they get this BIN? Did he give any info away that gave them clue?

How can such be prevented please?

my money has been taken this way too and do you know after series of investigation we found out that one of the bank worker was the one that stole the money from my acct and they begged me not to take the matter to court i guess because they dont want to tarnish their banks image i was handsomely compensated and the thief was sacked. please do all you can to get your money bank . stanbic bank employers are thieves

A candid advice if you wanna quickly catchup with the fraudster is try locate any of the merchant he used that might have a cctv like filling stations and some eateries, but if the transaction was made on a sole merchant then you can contest the billing with your bank who will inturn as for a refund from the said merchant where the charge was made. And also involve the police fraud unit of the situation.

Similar thing happened to me last week, I went to report at the bank all they told me was that I might have given my ATM card to someone of which I never did. This is a new method of Internet fraud

Nothing concerned insider here. Nigerian cards are sold on the darkweb. The day i saw it i was amazes. Almost all the banks. You don't need otp for those transaction. They use address verification system, that is Nigeria ip alone. That money is gone, stanbic bank can't even block it. The account has been debited already.

But mine always require me to input my pin and OTP before i can carry out any online transactions successfully.

I think there's a way you can set that up through internet banking, you login through the banking URL to set it up.

That's why you don't vouch for any of these banks. Any website that sends OTP is the sites measure in ensuring stolen cards are not used on their site, to avoid charge backs in the future. But it is the duty of the bank to make sure all their cards has extra security like OTP verification before authorizing any transaction online.

UBA is not better.
They protect criminals claiming they have a customer protection policy. They wasted my time for a month after same happened to me losing close to 100k.

Phuck all Nigerian banks. I still get scared at times knowing they hold my money.

Well I would advise they be called out on Twitter. If I for one have an account with them reading all this I would have closed my account with them. I personally don’t receive mails or alerts in my savings account. Imagine it’s me, they will be the account without me knowing.

I don't have twitter handle, I dislike twitter. I sent series of mail of account closure, I initiated closure of my account through the apps, two months on I still received "insufficient account balance" alerts on transactions I never initiated. Stanbic IBTC is just a good for nothing bank for all I care.

I do not work with UBA...well unless if you can help me secure a slot with them. In respect to my aforementioned claim, someone just discredited UBA, so its safe to say that no Nigerian bank offers protection against fraudsters. We can on our own play our part and leave the rest to God, however. Be weary of strange emails, links and so on, even if the mails are from known establishments ( this is possible with phising). Do not click on links attached to emails, no matter how genuine they may seem. Same applies to all the links having their rounds on whatsapp. Protect your ATM cards. If possible, you can run two bank accounts, stash a smaller amount in one of the accounts and then have an ATM for that account. Do not register an ATM card for the one with the major funds, hide all mobile banking apps, transaction history... Change your ATM pins at most quarterly, scratch off or peel of the 15 digit code on your ATM and the 3 behind ( your card would work regardless)... The precautionary measures are inexhaustible.

How is a bank Staff involved?...99.9 percent of these cases is usually because the customer compromised his/her details...knowing the card no, expiry date & Security may be enough to perform that transaction on some POS outside Nigeria and on few international Merchant websites...you will need your 4 digits pin on any Naija platform so it makes it tougher...hope your card details is not stored on any merchant website? lodge your complaint but it's almost likely you were the one who Fu*""d up...you may not know when but it happened to me before too..

Novice...any platform works with those details...the physical card is useless if you have all the details...infact you can use it on a website and narration will still read POS..I can bet they used the card on international Merchant website...they don't do second level authentication ( 4 digits ATM pin)

The same happened to my father's account with Stanbic IBTC bank. They fraudulently used his debit card to buy goods on wish.com to the tune of N37000. We are still on case. Stanbic IBTC bank is yet to return the money. The money is even my father's pension paid by Stanbic IBTC Pension. I'm very the bank staff are behind these fraudulent transactions. Please let's collaborate and get our money back. The bank staff have turned to thieves.

I had issues with a clearing and forwarding company that has accounts with Stanbic IBTC bank recently. These guys were not trustworthy at all. Stanbic IBTC is gradually developing a bad reputation for fraud and dishonesty. Hmn.
