Agboriotejoye:lol at app. App indeed. The most hungry people in this country don't have no app. 100 million Nigerians dont have any app. |

obi58:Learn to comprehend. Not opening the markets. But opening the markets for 4 hours and then closing it for the rest of the day doesn't make sense. Because the virus does not have time of coming out. Either open fully or close fully. |

TheWrita:Where will we get the right people? From heaven? Once upon a time I used to think that our leaders were solely our problem. But that has changed in me. We followers are equally as bad if not worse. The level of corruption and indiscipline that goes on in our homes, communities, componds, companies, etc is mind boggling. The people waiting in queue to take over are worse. Right people indeed. We need right institutions. These institutions are not built in days but years. With gradual and steady improvements and good leaders, Nigeria will be better in 50 years' time. |

executive12:Nigeria has to be the most complex country in the world. Different languages, different tribes, different religious. Nepotism, tribalism, corruption, indiscipline is even worse at the lower levers of the country. Churches, mosques, communities,. We followers are worse than our leaders. frubben:Yes Nobody forced him to rule. You don't know how complicated it is until you get there. Trust Me when I tell you this; All the wonderful and great men whom you want to rule this country will be insulted and thrashed when they get there. Those you think can go there and work miracles will start getting insulted after 2 years. Mark my words. |

obi58: ![]() Wrong. Everybody wants food not some people. The fewer the hours, then the more the rush. More people will rush to the markets at the same short period of time and so the crowdier the markets will be. Common sense! |

ddippset:Hmmm correct right institution and just like I said Systems. Bt how long does it take to put right System/institutions in place is the big question??!!! Not so long I believe for a country as old and even as diverse as Nigeria. Like I said earlier it’s not rocket science. The issue is starting the journey, we have not started. We are not on the part to good institutions yet. Look at the Dubai model, Singapore etc... Transformation took place in less than 10/15 years. The right leadership at the end of the day is still needed to kickstart the process. Change starts from the top. I believe. Check how most countries changed it was either from the top or a revolution from below which still changes the top and then flows back down to the bottom. Change is from the Top. |

jaxxy:I believe that in Dubai there is more simplicity. One predominant religion, language and culture. There is nothing like my brother my brother politics. Or my brother my brother development. So there are a lot of factors millitating against such fast development. Even if we get a President that wants to work, I tell you if he goes there to work and refuses to share money and endorse corruption, his fellow leaders will work against him. I quite agree that change must start from the top, But I insist that we followers are not better than the leaders we so criticise. You only need to be at a place like nairaland for a second to sense this. For instance just within a few hours of closure of markets in Port Harcourt, A certain quantity of tomatoes went from 500 naira to 2000. A certain quantity of Garri went from 3000 to 8000. A certain quantity of beef went from 1500 to 4500. Fueling stations were still selling at 142 claiming they wanted to sell out their old stock before reducing to 128. But if the fuel price ahead been raised to 160 they would have sold that old stock for 160 immediately. There are hundreds of examples around us to show that we could be worse than our so called bad leaders. Nigeria has a very long way to go, this is more than Buhari or any President we elect. |

Just logged in briefly to attend to this. You truncate the time people have to buy vital provisions is anti-social distancing. Only the absolutely ignorant will not know it will lead to daily pandemonium at the markets. These and other factors are clear indicators why our international borders should have been closed to this pandemic much, much earlier. We simply cannot manage the crises. We are not resourced to. And by resources I also mean the mental resources of ideas, strategies and programs. We are simply doing copy and paste from the international scene when we neither have the social structures nor the qualitative governance to do so. As a result we will be one of the last countries to defeat this scourge and will be a pariah state as other nations recover medically and economically. Let us continue in our ignorance. |

ddippset:Are we not talking about Lagos, Ogun and FCT? The most hungry Nigerians don't live in those states. They may be below the poverty line but surely not the most hungry. Besides most of them in those states have a smartphone or know someone who has. For the poorest Nigerians who live in rural areas spread across the country, the PUs data from INEC can be used to locate such places and the village heads can be used to identify them per family. There's nothing that can't be done. It's about careful planning and the willpower to do it. |

Reference:Hmmm you made salient points. Let's hope mother nature helps out. The fact is our govt officials rarely ever sit down to think of and about this country. They just keep following models of countries who are better than we are albeit there are local parlance that admonish on the need to cut ur cloth to ur size. Until we have leaders who genuinely care about this country and not people who see it as conquered land, things won't get better. |

ddippset:Again I agree with u the the people are part of the problem. I never removed or exempted them from what has been bedeviling this country. The average Nigerian is a plague to himself and others which doesn’t do anyone any good simply because of his mindset! The mindset is the problem of the average Nigerian on the street or on the internet like Nairaland. Most of what I read here makes me sad and sorry for this country bt I’m not discouraged maybe cos I believe change can be fast tracked with the right catalyst or trigger. We are not the only multi religious country I believe or multiethnic bt one thing must be above all these differences at all times for things to work and thats why I said our systems are the solution. The people’s mentality must shift bt It is a huge task to shift 150 million people’s mindset, the other way around it wud be to conform them to strong systems irrespective of who u are. I still do not believe this is rocket science bt it won’t be easy bt can be done. And has to be done. Waiting 50 years is like waiting for a natural sequence of generational change to hopefully change the mindset or the country’s make up or sheer luck. Lol |

ddippset:That is exactly what I am saying. Qualitative leadership knows the capacity of a nation, understands the psyche of its people and acts accordingly. Qualitative leadership then either strategizes around these perceived weaknesses to neutralize them or ensures these weaknesses are not tested by acting in this case to prevent this pandemic. It is all about capacity. The leadership of this country simply does not understand this country and its people. That is failure. Sorry, but Mr. President on whose seat the buck stops does not understand Nigeria. He does not know this country is largely informal without data structures. He doesn't know half live below the poverty line so cannot save for a rainy day making isolation imaterial.... Please we donot have a cerebral goverment. Too dull, too ignorant, always behind the curve and cannot find the way out of problems. These are the things the citizens vote for. They donot vote for people who will turn back and blame them for problems. You donot go to a doctor to receive blame but cures for your ailment. When he starts to blame you know he has no cure but excuses. |

Agboriotejoye: ![]() The bolded, I like that part. But I think even in Lagos, Ogun and FCT, 90 percent of those who really need help do not have smart phones. Take Note; I didn't say 90 percent of the people. But 90 percent of those who really need food, those who don't have the means to have stocked up their freezers with food stuff. |
| Re: COVID-19 Lockdown: Food Markets To Open Between 10:00am And 2:00pm Daily – FG by ddippset(m): 7:56am On Apr 02, 2020 |
Reference:It does not start and end with the president. If you have a good President but; 70 percent of the legislators are bad. 70 percent of the governors are bad. 70 percent of the judiciary are bad. 70 percent of the party chieftains (APC and PDP) are bad. Then the president can't do Jack! Even if you go to heaven and being a President, he can't do Jack. Not in a so called democracy anyway, Except it's a military regime or a monarchy. |

That's why lockdown is just a temporary solution. Scaling up testing, isolation and tracing is what we needed more. We have just 7centers in 36 states and FCT that's poor. NCDC should recruit volunteers if they don't have enough workforce. Many young Nigeria are jobless. It's like war,the earlier the better. Stop following US and UK. Look at South Korea and other countries who have slowed the spread. This is a wrong move from the government. |
