It doesn't matter

The most painful statement ever said to me was from my mum. She said she wished she never gave birth to me and that I was menstruated out. She also said if I never amount to anything good in life, she's not bothered so far my other siblings come out doing well. She said these when I was 16 years old. I'm 27 now and it still rings in my head. I'm out of Nigeria now and doing far better than she ever thought.
We are not in talking terms anymore mainly because she's used to saying bad words and the worst thing I need around me is negative energy.

When I went to settle things with one of my ex and he told me these hurting words "only a hopeless man will settle down with you" those words keeps piercing my heart whenever I remember

When I went for my wedding introduction, one of my wife's uncle said "I don't think this guy is mature for marriage o". He said so just because if my stature. Buh I gave a yoruba adage which says "eda o laropin".
Furtunately just two years after, he was stranded and called my wife, we went to pick him with our car and he slept in the visitor's room in our rented 3 bedroom apartment. He was surprised to see that we have another car for my wife. And you know what? I didn't talk to him before I left for work the following morning.
Another one was my previous employer that said I can never get a job within South Western Nigeria after asking me to go, 6 months after, I got another job very close to him.

Let them say whatever hurtful word they want to say,but don't allow it to deter you from moving forward.Always prove them wrong.

Painful words are truly painful but they are what made some of us what we are today.

Shout out to those who took the courage to tell me those painful words.

I get irked by the 'am' for 'I'm' error...

I was born into a sufi Muslim family. I practice Islam the way my parent taught me and the way every member of my family (and friends) practices it. We grew up to know about sects and the one we belong to.

So, back in my first year in the university, there was this guy that just joined the "short-trousers-gang" - they call them salafi. They have some sort of believe that everyone different from them is going to hell especially the sufis - that the sufis are completely lost from the tenet of Islam.

There was a time a guy was arguing with one of my friends. It happened that he picked a pen from the floor and the guy was accusing him of stealing as the real owner of the pen might be looking for it. It was more like they were having fun with the argument and I wanted to be part of it. I haven't even said much before this guy shunned me with this "mio tiele gba oro tie wole rara, somope Ahlu bidha niwo" meaning "I'm not even going to listen to you because you're part of Ahlu bidha (the people that sneak Innovation which is not part of Islam into islam)"

I still get angry anytime I remember this and I really don't think I can still like the guy. I'd rather dine with Christians than move with those people (salafi). They're full of intimidation, hatred, hypocrisy and insecurity.

For me, I'm a Muslim and nothing attached.

My boss once called me useless, dummy, decredits me, that I don't know anything, upon all my efforts and hardwork, all because I don't talk much, even when I work hard and do more with my brain yet he doesn't see it... I only pray That I prove him wrong one day by been successful in life more than him. So help me God... Right now am still answering him yes sir but hope that my story will change one day..

My mum sold food to train us. There was a particular time she took ill and couldn't go about her business as usual, so my sister and I had to suspend going school just to help prepare and sell the food. We were very young then.
One certain day, a man came to buy food and told me to go keep the food in his car, giving me the car keys. Maybe i should've told him i don't know how to open his car but i just thought it's something easy. I tried to open the car but the doors won't open. I told him and he asked me to retry. I tried and tried but the door did not open, that was when all hell set loose. The man started insulting me, calling me many derogatory names, telling me that my generation has never owned a car so he's not surprised i could not open his.
That day was the first time I'll ever cry for an insult. The insult got me to my bone marrows. If i had been in school or my parents were really well to do, non of those would've happened.
I promised myself right there that day that I would strive by all means good and necessary to break the chain of poverty.

I'm still not there yet, but I've seen the light
