GeoAfrikana:
Since all what you want is to become a lecturer then the only question to ask yourself is:

Try to read well about the courses you'll be taking under nursing then see if you have what it takes to Excel in those courses.

And mind you, don't think nursing is all about biology! You'll take compulsory courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry - at least in your first year.

Also, can you read for marathon hours -say 10hrs a day- for 5days? I had a friend taking nursing during my undergraduate days. Whenever he was preparing for their sessional course he would read like mad. Medical students case is even worse.

So look at yourself and compare your abilities to what you think is needed to Excel in nursing. If you think you have most of what it takes then give it a shot.

On another hand,
As humans we can only plan, God's will is what will prevail.

If you eventually graduate but don't get a lecturing job, will you feel like your psychology/nursing training is a waste of time?

You need a backup plan. That's one thing you learn in entrepreneurship. If you invest money, time and effort in learning a skill or setting up a business. Then the market for the skill, product or service crashes how do you gain your money and life back? They call it planning for failure.

So if you don't get your lecturing job, is there any nearby field you can hustle your way into with your nursing/psychology certificate/knowledge?

I know for sure that in the health line, you'll always have food on your table, it might not be much or as delicious as you expect but you'll always have food.

So, those are a few questions to help you make a guided decision.

Good luck.

If he's a genius , he doesn't need such long hours of study to scale thru

You probably know more than an actual RN.

Did your ex work in all the states and did she do every type of nursing possible in the nursing umbrella? did she get paid all the different pay rates available in different states and by different employers and did she have all the skills required to make pay rates vary among nurses. Based on state, employer, type of nursing, skills the nurse has and level of experience, some nurses make 6 figures while others make less. It’s a vast field with huge differences.

You dated a nurse doesn’t make you and expert in nursing. Chill.

ogbonti:

That is 12 hours a day 6pm /7pm to 6am/7am = 36hours a week. Is there any Naija nurse that works 36 hours only a week in America? I sincerely doubt... they are mostly overtime bugs EXCEPT they already health challenges like high blood pressure that is when they slow down to do only 36 hours and what makes nursing attractive is the OVERNIGHT/ OVERTIME.... my ex was an RN and my neighbor and church member both husband and wife are RN so there is no secret in nursing I don’t know

Now they are pleading I consider Nursing, according to them, I stand a higher chance of getting a job in a nursing profession to psychology. They are planning on sending me out of the country after the program. Should I just dash off my dream of becoming a lecturer to pursue nursing?.

One of the jobs you will get abroad with less discrimination of any kind (colour or accent) is in the Nursing field,be it as an Aide, Clinical Nurse ,Practical Nurse, or Psychiatric Nurse,While working in any of this fields you can still study to become a Lecturer in Nursing later in life.

Yes “I dated a nurse” as a premise was used by me in this thread to make make my case that I have a baseline knowledge of what’s going on in the nursing field.

Even if I were a certified Registered Nurse, what difference does it make? You being a nurse does not mean you know everything going on with the nursing profession in all states, all cities and all fields in the USA. Even the Secretary for Health and Human Services in the USA does not know everything going on regarding health worker’s frustration or limitations in their professional life, so what exactly is your point?

Interestingly, you can’t even meet the standard of knowledge you are attempting to set here just to cast a shadow of doubt on my assertions.

In this age of huge information overload and overflow, do you actually need to work in a field to know what’s going on there? Nope! All you need is having a curious mind to do your research and it gets easier when you have live witnesses to corroborate your findings so you can make an informed conclusion. That is exactly what I did on this thread, So you go sleep inside gutter!

Yet I haven’t claimed to know all about nursing.

And here you are. Forming over sabi.

Like I said. There’s a wide range of salaries and conditions when it comes to nursing. That simply implies that one size does not fit all. Get it?

Before you use your girlfriend and neighbors as your bedrock of making online claims.

Please listen to your parent especially that plan you have of traveling outside for your masters. Nursing is marketable both home and abroad.

“Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”

Not my words, that’s what your bible says! And that is what you will do if you date a nurse, by your own words you have shown that you are a lowlife parasite

LASTLY....

Not only do you have a comprehension problem - because there was never a time I said I was married to my ex... so where is divorce coming from ? Is coming from an empty skull filled with po0. grin

And what if she was the one always borrowing from me because of relatives like you who won’t let her rest from Nigeria?

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW- that was one of the reasons I dumped her because she could not even take care of herself here because of parasites from Nigeria who will not work but kept telling her lies every day and she can’t tell them NO. I couldn’t see a future with someone like that who took every bait of lies every time and not willing to receive sense just like you!

Poverty of the mind makes people like you think nursing is the only way to succeed in America when programmers make in 32 hours a week what nurses killl themselves to earn working 60 hours a week overtime and overnight .... you are very narrow minded!

This could be the best move in your life because unfortunately looks like this is the century on viruses and bacterias and sickness and the world will require a massive numbers of nurses, for me this is exactly that i gonna do, i finished high school last semester and i was confused of what faculty i should choose, there are many options which make it really difficult to me, i have some tendencies about nursing and my parents encouraged me about it, so i checked the CNA courses and the cost of it on cnaclasses101.com and started the course as a preparation year before going to nursing faculty.
