There are very few players in football history that are usually marked by not 2, 3 alone but 4 or even more players at a time in a game. If only Okocha played less for fun, he would be among football’s greatest in terms of achievement as well.

Okocha didn’t reach his true potential but still surpassed many.

Anyway one is a defensive midfielder and one is an attacking , so i am not comparing them.

Who talent help? many talented players didn't fulfill their potentials thou

For majority of the games Mikel played for Chelsea he kept his game simple though it was a crucial role for Chelsea’s many wins. Okocha however always stood out and his impact in games were obvious. These two players are in two different wave lengths.

bro I've seen Jay Jay Okocha do stuff that the likes of Maradona Zidane and Ronaldinho get accolades for. Like you rightly said if he was serious there is no telling the height his career would have gotten to. He showed glimpses of that in his first and second season with Bolton but by then diminishing returns had begun to set in.

I think Mikel would have turned out to be a very good central midfielder if not world class. Unfortunately the English game I think didn't give him the space and time to develop that aspect of his game immensely. Other leagues like La Liga or Italian seria A might have provided that perfect environment to flourish

'You're just SH*T!' - Eto'o & Drogba slam medical professors over 'racist' remarks coronavirus vaccine tests should be conducted in Africa

Two doctors had suggested on French television that testing for a potential vaccine against Covid-19 should happen in Africa.

Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba have hit back angrily at “racist and contemptuous” comments made by two doctors on French television suggesting studies on drugs to combat coronavirus should be tested in Africa.

Former Chelsea and Senegal forward Demba Ba posted a video of the exchange on Twitter.

Ba commented: “Welcome to the West, where white people believe themselves to be so superior that racism and stupidity become commonplace. TIME TO RISE.”

The comments in question regard the potential testing of the BCG vaccine, generally used against tuberculosis, as a preventative measure against Covid-19.

"If I can be provocative, shouldn't we do this study in Africa where there are no masks, no treatment, no resuscitation?"
asked Professor Jean-Paul Mira, head of the intensive care unit at the Cochin Hospital in Paris.

“The same as for some AIDS studies where prostitutes try things because we know they’re unprotected”.

Professor Camille Locht, research director at Inserm, replied: "You are right. We are currently thinking in parallel about a study in Africa to make this same type of approach with the BCG.

“There is a tender process that has gone out or is going to go out. We will seriously think about that.

“That doesn’t prevent us from thinking in parallel about a study in Europe and Australia.”

Cameroon legend Eto’o replied to Ba’s video on Twitter: “Sons of bitches,” before adding in a post on Instagram: “You are just SH*T. Africa isn’t yours to play with.”

Drogba also called out the comments as “absurd”, with the two-time African Footballer of the Year clearly appalled by any suggestion African people should be used “as guinea pigs”.

“It is inconceivable that we continue to accept this,” Drogba wrote on Twitter. “Africa is not a laboratory.

“I strongly denounce these serious, racist and contemptuous remarks!

“Help us save lives in Africa and stop the spread of this virus which is destabilising the whole world, instead of considering us as guinea pigs. It is absurd!

“African leaders have a responsibility to protect people from these heinous plots.”

BCG is only one of numerous vaccines and antiviral drugs being considered for its potential against coronavirus.

Vaccines must go through rigorous testing and development stages before they can be approved for widespread use and enter mass production.

Common estimates from scientists suggest a viable vaccine against Covid-19 is likely to be at least 18 months away from being ready for public use.

Okocha was a more dependable player... Both for club and country...

Mikel didn't really become an integral part of the national team until during the 2013 AFCON and Rohr's tenure... Okocha on the other hand was every present and ever reliable ..

I will advise you to take a chill pill.... U have done nothing but complain and swear ever since the virus entered the country..
There's nothing the government would have done that could habe stopped the virus from entering...it was inevitable....over half of the countries in the world now have the virus. There's no point in crying over spilled milk like u have been doing all weeks... E no go help anybody ..

the only way this your post made sense is because it appears that I am derailing the thread otherwise it lacks substance...

I don't know when criticizing the ill-actions of the government is now complain

the truth is some of you foist this on the rest of Nigerians via your votes and rather than stand up to criticize and tell the government the truth you're are still praise singing the crook folks in power..

I won't be surprised if you come here tomorrow to praise the government too for keeping millions of Nigerians at home without pallative measures or praising them for disbursing billions of niara to 2.6m households within 72 hours still haven't seen anyone who got this fund or the extra judicial killings in warri about two-three days ago where over 20 youths have been said to lost their lives and the governor act as it wasn't his concern

you assume the virus would have still entered the country had it been the border was still closed citing its spread to over half of the world countries at the moment just as an excuse to support and exonerate the mediocrity of the government

I know you're one of those who secretly support this folks but you should have come out plain

I will let this slide reason because this is football thread but know like I said those excuses up there lack substances just one of the ways the supporters of this government supports the failure they foist on Nigerians via their ignorant voting

I am very sure this corona virus must have create some billionaires already amongst the ruling class....

alot will be stolen so pleass don't exonerate them

for the non-enlightenment you can't keep people at home with empty stomach even the claimed disbursement of 20, 000 to poor households is a farcade to me and not true just an avenue to loot in my opinion and you keep people at home without house to house testing or community testing who does that ? I know NCNC have been sending test messages around but you see even in advanced countries people have been asked to stay at home the government have been doing testing in thousands for them south Africa also nothinh is being done here

the government even claim that 169 ventilators are enough and we don't need more ventilators

and some governors who don't understand the meaning of facemasks are trying to impose it on the people as a must use like in ebonyi as if facemasks will stop the virus spread even WHO warns it may even aid being infected

the Nigeria government is not doing enough at all....I listen to the radio always the governemnt needs to take this serious first even the task force have turned it to an opportunity to harass innocent citizens

I am not really happy with the way this men are rulling us what have they done with the billoons so far donated?

I do not believe in lockdowns as a means to curb the virus. Look at the rate at which the virus spreads despite Lockdowns. This virus has a way of penetrating even the most formidable Lockdown situations.

The solution remains rapid testing and early treatment. Just like any other disease. Most people who were discovered to have the virus early survived with early treatment to keep them from getting respiratory conditions.

If we study Dr. Vladimir Zelenko's treatment and regimen, it has to do with getting people treated early. By treating 699 patients with his treatment and regimen, he had no deaths.

The lockdown creates an illusion that all is well by the time the respiratory illness comes, it is too late.

Lockdown means nothing without testing, isolating and treating infected ones.

To date, it (South Africa) has tested more than 47,000 people, although experts and health officials say that much more needs to be done to try and isolate infected individuals. Head of the Medical Research Council Glenda Gray told Quartz Africa that the country should be testing about 25,000 people a day. “We’re far behind.”

https://www.google.com/amp/s/qz.com/africa/1832066/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-in-south-africa-leads-continent/amp/

Nigeria is testing about 200 people a day. We have only 8 testing labs unlike South Africa that has over 67 mobile testing labs alone.

I doubt testing is going on in a place like Rivers State. It is baffling why we hinge on Lockdowns that will not keep us safe, over mass testing and isolation that will quickly curb the spread.

Rashidi Yekini!!!?

Lol

Funny right

Justifiable? grin

Justifiable.

I, as a Chelsea fan had great expectations on Mikel but unfortunately, he was not spectacular. Was totally underutilized.

Kanu Nwankwo was a make shift player throughout his career due to his heart disease and he was a seasonal player. Only achieved in European football but did nothing in the Super Eagle.

Okocha na Baba. But did nothing in club football and was behind Yekin during their days in the national team.

Who is the greatest ARGENTINE player of all time? Is it Messi or Maradona?

In terms of individual accolades, he won the African footballer of the year in 1993. Both Austin Okocha and Mikel Obi never won the award, how then can they lay claim to being the greatest Nigerian footballer of all-time? On this parameter, only Kanu is his competitor, he won the African footballer of the year twice but never won the AFCON. How can a player that never won the AFCON be the greatest Nigerian footballer of all-time? Yekini won everything a Nigerian footballer could have won representing the national team, both team and individual. The others can't lay claim to that.

Botafogo are considering making a formal bid to sign former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi, according to Brazilian media reports.
The Rio de Janeiro club began preliminary talks with Mikel’s representatives last month after aborting their pursuit of former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure.

However the discussions were halted by the coronavirus outbreak, Globo Esporte reported on Wednesday, adding that Botafogo had not given up hope of signing the Nigerian.

Mikel, 32, is a free agent after parting ways with Turkey’s Trabzonspor last month.

Botafogo have already made one high-profile signing this year with the arrival of Japanese playmaker Keisuke Honda on a free transfer in January.

Brazil’s major football competitions are currently suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Former Nigeria international John Utaka has expressed firm optimism that the current crop of Super Eagles players can win the Africa Cup of Nations – AFCON 2021, under the tutelage of Gernot Rohr, Completesports.com reports.

Utaka hinged his prediction on the abundance of young and quality talents at the disposal of the Nigeria’s national team coach and believes that continuity will be the Super Eagles’ strength moving forward

“The present Super Eagles are on good run that can only lead to tremendous achievement in the nearest future. This team is full of talents and quality. I believe Rohr is doing an immense job with the team and very soon Nigeria will start reaping the reward of continuity,” the former Nigeria and RC Lens winger said.

“Rohr is a great coach and he has done well to lead the Super Eagles to win bronze medal at the last AFCON in just two years of rebuilding. I wonder why NFF has not offered him a new contract to complete what he started well. The experiences of the last AFCON and World Cup will propel the team to bigger things in best future

“I have this strong belief that the Super Eagles can win the fourth AFCON title for Nigeria next year in Cameroon if the technical crew led by Gernot Rohr is retained. The boys will benefit from their working together under same coach and maturity to nip it.”

Utaka regards his performance for Nigeria against Cameroon in the semi-final of Tunisia 2004 AFCON as the happiest moment of his football career for both club and country, and adds that he had a good tournament then though the Super Eagles lost in the final to host Tunisia.

“It was my first Nations Cup finals appearance for Nigeria and the Cameronians opened scoring through [Samuel] Eto’o, but Okocha replied with a sweet free-kick, and my goal in the second half won it for Nigeria. It was a special goal and I still cherish it till date,” Utaka recalled.

“Another game I won’t forget easily was the 2012 title winning game I played for Montpelier against Auxerre. We won 2-0 away from home and I scored. I can’t remember any game that I want to forget easily, so let us just say I don’t have dark moments in my career,” he concluded.

There is something someone said on Twitter, "The corona virus patients you see today, are not today's patients. They were infected weeks ago, but thee symptoms only came up today"

Most countries failed to lock down and close their borders on time, by the time they closed it, the virus had already gotten in. Furthermore, what can you do, when it is your own citizens bringing in the virus?

There are reports that the virus had been in the US as early as January, one man, who claimed to have exhibited the symptoms in January, took a test some days ago, that can detect those who have recovered from corona virus, to see if he had indeed been infected by the virus, and the result was positive.

The result of lock down will not be seen today, t will take months for things to die down. China locked down in January, and are raising it in April. Almost four months. The lock down in some countries could be up till June, before you will notice progress.

Nigeria's own is even special, because this country is filled with idiots. One man, returned from London and was exhibiting symptoms, he went to Yaba, and they told him he had the virus, but instead of isolating, he decided to go to LUTH instead, where he and his family lied about his travel history. He's one of the two deaths recorded yesterday. They have exposed the staff of LUTH to the virus, because of their own dishonesty. What about the six idiots that ran away in Osun?

We get problem for this country, and it is not the government.

Nigeria cannot have plenty testing labs.

Testing labs require money, your government will sooner watch Nigerians die, than spend money

Once they have finished testing the top 5% of this country, everybody else, na to your tent I Israel
