Enugu Health Commissioner died of Chronic Kidney Disease, says family

The family of the late Commissioner for Health, Enugu State, Prof. Anthony Ugochukwu, has formally announced his death.

A statement signed on behalf of the family by Dr. Kingsley C. Ugochukwu, stated that the late Commissioner, whose sad event took place on the 3rd of April, 2020, died “after a prolonged but valiant battle with chronic kidney disease”.

According to the statement, late Prof. Ugochukwu “was until his death a Consultant Surgeon, Professor of Medicine, serving Commissioner for Health, Enugu State and immediate past Provost of ESUT College of Medicine, Enugu State”.

May his gentle soul rest in peace, Amen.

He can only manage his diabetes for a while with diet and exercise, then medication. Over time the toxicity from the medication becomes even a bigger issue.
Kidney transplant is a different issue entirely.

He died of end stage kidney disease also knowm as end stage renal failure. Chronic kidney disease leads to end stage renal failure

Solution to kidney disease;

Find the root cause: Yes, find the root cause of the diseaee n kill it to slow down the progression. In addition, patient needs to change diet for life to slow down progression of the disease.

Dialysis: When CKD patient reach end stage, available option is to be on dialysis machine to cleanse her blood n this could be either twice or 3 times a week. Dialysis ain't cheap n that's why most kidney disease patient died in no time because they can't afford dialysis. A session cost over 50k & multiply that by 3 a week gives 150k. Dialysis cost between 400k to 600k per month for CKD patient

Transplant: Kidney transplant is the last solution for patient with CKD. kidney transplant cost around 12million naira n above & patient needs to be on drug for the rest of their life to avoid rejection of new kidney

Chronic kidney disease is not a disease anyone should pray for

People can avoid it by watching what we eat & drugs we take especially NSAID pain relieve, it kills faster than bullet

Stage 5 of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is what is called ESKD.

CKD won't probably show symptoms till it gets to stage 4 or 5.
