I've been in this relationship for over a year now and this issue has been causing disagreement btw me and my fiancee...I lost my mom at a tender age and I live with my dad ever since... Most times we buy food outside and he doesn't care since he hardly stay home.. When I finally got into higher institution... My roommate does the cooking and I didn't bother to learn... My fiancee and I are planning to get married early next year ..he knows am not good at cooking but I promised him I will find a way to learn.. There was a day we went to visit his mum and I was just sitting there like a visitor even though it wasn't my first time of going there.. she told me she would like me to cook for her that day... I got really nervous as I went to the kitchen... I didn't know what to do next ...so I decided to cook white rice with stew.. At the end the rice was over soft with water still inside it.. My mother in law came in and saw it .I was really ashamed... She took care of the rice and made the stew but only told me I can go without uttering another word to me... She was so cold towards me throughout and when we were about leaving she called my fiancee inside and I knew what it was about... He came out angry and told me we should get going...on our way he told me his mum said I was not good for him.... I was really devastated and he told me to learn instead... The next day his mum called and told me she wanted to see me... She gave me the insult of my life and told me her son wasn't meant for me.... I didn't tell my fiancee anything about it. I called my roommate then in school and told her everything she agreed I can learn from her... Am still learning but never getting it right ...its either the food is burnt,spicy and or overdone.. Am so fed up and have been making excuses not to go to my mother in law"s place whenever my fiancee bring it up.... Am fed up and don't know what else to do.. Pls advice thanks 1 Like |

Daniellagrace54:Calm down and relax your mind. Don't overthink things. Continue to learn and practice how to cook regularly, on your own. Ignore what she says, even though it hurts. When you begin to get it right, she is going to be the first person to notice and praise you, behind your back. |

You can learn, it's not so hard. Learn the basics, don't be afraid to start small, try to master your favorite dish. You will make mistakes, buh be determined to learn from it. Finally my sister, which is the most important, food requires ATTENTION, you have to pay attention to it, even if you have to stay beside it till it's done. |

Aww it’s not hard actually, your friend should be able to teach you. Practicing it often would make it better also. Some mothers though, her attitude reeks of wickedness. If you were her child would she treat you that way?? This life though  knowing you lost your mom at an early stage. |

C'mon even djcuppy can cook... You don't have an excuse... All through my younger years I never cooked, I started cooking when I was 20 or so... My mom never allowed me in the kitchen cause I was asthmatic... When she saw that common water I couldn't boil she became harsh on me ehn... Now I have grown to love it... I can even cook better than my sisters now(didn't mean to brag)... Cooking is just as simple, it's an art, a lovable one... Recipes from google would help too.... 1 Like |
