FG Slashes 2020 Budget by iwaeda(op): 3:57pm On Apr 08, 2020
The Federal Government has sent a revised budget to the National Assembly, cutting down some costs in view of the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.

A top source in the National Assembly shared a copy of the revised 2020 budget on Wednesday, noting that a meeting was ongoing between the leadership of the National Assembly and the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Parts of the documents showed that there is a 20 per cent cut on capital projects across ministries, departments and agencies to the tune of N312,820,542,675.

You’ve not even seen the details of the amended budget and you’ve started wailing. What exactly are you wailing about? What is wrong with slashing the budget in the face of the current economic reality?

They expect the government should have seen the future.

Funny enough, most of them wailing could not save money, food or supplies for the lockdown even as many they saw warnings everyday.

Hypocrites they are.

Well, in 2015, there was a lot of talk about how APC would diversify the economy

Five years later, nothing. Our economy is still very very dependent on oil. And now, because oil has crashed, the budget needs to be slashed.

The problem with Nigeria is that we have an economy devoted to sharing the revenue we earn from selling raw materials. In the 1960's it was agriculture, now it is oil. Meanwhile, we could be like Japan, China and Korea...and develop an economy based on producing industrial goods and selling them.

APC isn't doing that. And the sad thing? PDP too has no idea on how to do that.

Only N300 Billion?

There should be no new capital project this year!
And find a way to trimming recurrent expenditure

This should reduce borrowing... Afterall, we never achieve any remarkable percent budget implementation ever.

miketayo:
If they trim recurrent only civil servant salary would be affected, the senators and ministers won't be affected
Recurrent expenditure includes things like buying new computers, air conditioners, new cars etc (instead of fixing and maintaining available ones) it isn't only salaries. The ministers will also be affected.
The senators on the other hand are a different arm of government with a secret budget... the people need to audit them.

What's tha business?
