budaatum:The problem with your logic is that all developed countries have well funded public education systems. In fact, the human development index places Education and Healthcare as the two most important drivers of development, so your idea of having a developed country run by privately educated workers is born out of ignorance as to how the world works. Education goes beyond learning Maths and English. It is also the friendships and relationships that are formed. I recently took my generator set to the mechanic. The mechanic's son of 16 years opened the engine of my generator and completely fixed it. That boy has the knowhow to set up a generator assembling plant in Nigeria but he neither has the funds nor the knowledge on how to start importing parts. There are thousands of people just like this boy in Nigeria today. Look at Innoson, although I do not know him personally, my belief is that his parents were into trading or car repairs but then he was provided with better education than his peers and this led him to figuring out that importing spare parts into Nigeria and coupling them here was much cheaper than buying the fully built motor cycles. Finally, take the Apple founder, Steve Jobs. Apple has created millions of jobs around the world and I believe its net worth is higher than Nigeria's GDP. Job's father was a Syrian immigrant who abandon Job's mother in pregnancy. Without quality education how can such a company ever be created. Sorry to add more comments. Even when you look at politics, Obama, An American born from a Kenyan father being elected president shows the quality of education the masses have. With education, merit holds sway and with merit, development is sure to follow. |

RuudVanNisteroy:Sorry, but good governance is not the responsibility of government since government itself is a responsibility of the citizens, in a democracy, at least. It is the citizens, the electorate, that elects the government, so you cannot abdicate responsibility if the elected government is incompetent. As for education, I think it is absurd to expect those who benefit from keeping you ignorant, stupid and poor to be responsible for educating you. If I were them, I think I will ensure I educate you to be even more stupid, ignorant and poor so that I may further realise my ambition to exploit you. Please note that it is the responsible people of Rwanda, Botswana and Namibia that "invested in the leaders of tomorrow" which they today benefit from and which you envy. If we too start "investing in the leaders of tomorrow" (by educating ourselves and our children instead of hoping some government would educate them for us despite all the evidence to the contrary), we too will reap the same reward when that tomorrow becomes today. |

budaatum:Good you mentioned those people and they're the only people who had the power to fix Nigeria because power under such situation is absolute but they all failed because they don't have what it takes to do it. Kagame, Sankara, Rawlings and Ghadaffi all came through the same process and left indelible mark in their respective countries. Why did those from Nigeria fail? No elected leader in Nigeria can achieve any thing because he would have been compromised before being allowed to mount the chair. From history, only northern muslims have successfully carried out coups and settled to govern and they all failed. So, towing that line will be disastrous and coups are no longer accepted. This leaves us with restructuring or disintegration. Personally, I don't see restructuring happening because those with power today are reaping hugely from the fields that belong to others and wouldn't relinquish it without a fight. It makes almost no difference to them with disintegration. They'll rather fight than to allow any of the two. We must come to terms with this and take the bull by the horn. Nigeria has failed and those who wish to live and grow must fight to live. All great nations did so and became great today. Stop wasting your time for a dead contraption plagued with death and backwardness. Who's still talking about Sharia in the 21st century If not madness? |

Tianamen1:Its a chicken an egg conundrum at best. You seem to think "well funded public education systems" started economic development, when the truth is, in most countries, privately educated individuals fought for "well funded public education systems" for all and that fueled their development. Or do you seriously believe the stupid and ignorant who "love their fantastically corrupt leaders who use bullion vans to share cash to them and provide stomach infrastructure in the form of rice, eba and egusi" care about "well funded public education systems"? Tianamen1:Indeed " education goes beyond learning Maths and English". I'll add, critical thinking, and being able to converse intelligently even while not in agreement, amongst many other things, like being able to find funds to set up a generator assembling plant in Nigeria just as Steve Jobs did, and Obama too. Jobs and Obama would not have been able to achieve what they did if they did not have the knowledge, gained through learning, to overcome the numerous difficulties they faced before achieving their goals. |

Yujin:Sorry Yujin, but I dont think it is logical to claim "they're the only people who had the power to fix Nigeria" when you know "they all failed because they don't have what it takes (the power to fix Nigeria) to do it". If they had the power (which includes the knowledge and the ability), to fix Nigeria, they would have fixed Nigeria, but most would agree with you that "they l failed", so I can not agree that they had the power, not to talk of "absolute power", which they definitely did not have since more powerful beings kicked them all out. |
