How many of you guys missed Bucky Roberts. The newboston dude? To me he’s the greatest tutor on programming languages

He taught me Python and SQL in a way that I can never forget.

For enthusiasts and newbies on data science.
Rapid Miner is a fast tool for analysis. You can download a free trial or use the web app for fast explorative and fast ML.
Please can you give more insight on gretl , I saw a dude using it for data analysis and machine learning, haven't gotten much information on it from Google.

Use it once but that’s like 2 years ago.
It’s a light weight statistical tool. Rapid miner is way ahead of it

@ejiod and others here, have you ever considered working remotely for foreign based companies? Though am a baby data scientist but am looking forward to working remotely with those kind of companies for I believe their pay is good compared to what one might be getting here.
Combining remote work with my office duty is something I can’t cope with. Office work is mental tasking.

First I want to appreciate Ejiod and everyone who has been contributing to this thread. I bookmarked this thread for motivation.

I started learning programming in 2016 with Bucky Robert's videos on YouTube. Then, I completed his html & css tutorial, Javascript, then I was about to start php before I started another IT related business that took all my time away completely from programming because man has to keep body and soul together.

This lock down has helped me to go back and start from beginning again. I believe with discipline and consistency I will be able to achieve my dream of becoming a better programmer.

I want to suggest this YouTube channel to all beginners ''The Net Ninja'' the guy knows how to teach just like Bucky. Use it to start the language and once you have a better understanding, then you can move on to other channels/materials.

And please you all should keep updating the thread with more useful information. Some of us need it for motivation.

God bless us all.

I want to use this 2 weeks lockdown and learn excel for data analysis from scratch to master. I try searching for "excelisfun" but the videos are too much on YouTube. Please those that have passed this stage should please suggest a good textbook, pdf, videos or crash course to take. I want to be useful with my life. Biko. Thanks in advance

My bro system is available and he is not making use of it. I have already installed ms excel. I believed that I will cover much in these 2 weeks.

Why do data analyst need tableau, power bi when I can do visualisation with matplotlib, seaborn

Why do I needs Excel when I can use pandas

I know python well enough, I just want to know whether knowing python only is enough for data analytics?

I just thought since the other tools are built with programming languages, using a Turing complete programming language like python along side already built packages should be enough

Do employers hire people with only proficiency in python?

Most companies boldly stated it in there requirements that they need Business intelligence tools especially power BI, check out most of their job advertisement.
Although python and R can do most of that visualization stuff, but to some length, and you can't compare how rapidminner and weka will handle machine learning to python, in the aspect of deep learning and prediction.
Combination of all these tools makes you a data scientist. And it will give you more edge about other using one tool.
Mostly i use Excel to check out my files if there is any error, then I will pass it to python for preprocessing, cleaning, removing NaN, melting columns, do some calculations etc, export it to SQL, and do some queries, then I use tabuleau and power BI for visualization and data mining, if am to predict I will pass it to gretl or rapidminner.

Noted, I am just hearing rapidminer for the first time, I will check out the tool to see how complex it is

Hw steep is rapidminer learning curve?

Which SQL vendor is used for data analysis? Can anybe used

You can use anyone you like, postgresql and Microsoft SQl are my favorite, if you understand one you can use the rest. basic SQL syntax remains the same.

Thanks at Ejiod. I am an msc student currently writimg my thesis. But right now i sort of regret going for the msc. If i had known earlier i would have learnt programming a long time ago. i am interested in data science and right now i am almost done learning sql. I use codecademy and w3schools to learn. I hope to learn more from you and follow your steps in improving myself. Thanks

Hi Bunnae, I am sort of starring this... I might need to get connected.

Ha! Loads.

Took the time to go through everything... Very informative.

Started "data-science path" on codecademy two weeks ago. I'm about rounding off SQL lessons. Python lessons are the next.

I am looking forward to the challenges and experience.

For people who might be interested, Codecademy is giving out pro scholarship.

It is free if you have a student ID. I used my friend's ID.

I don't want to derail this thread. I will send a pm cause I am looking for someone to learn with.

Ignore it if you don't like the idea.
