WWE SmackDown results, recap, reactions

World Wrestling Essential’s... Ahem… Entertainment’s Universal Champion Braun Strowman kicked off the show on A Moment of Bliss. While he ended SmackDown flippantly last week, this time he’s serious. After a recap of the closing segment, Braun said Bray Wyatt is a manipulator and never had a hand in creating him. He owes Bray no apologies.
Braun noticed a wrapped present behind Bliss and Cross and opened it up. He pulled out the black sheep mask he once wore as part of the Wyatt family. Bray’s laughter echoed through the Performance Center as a still image of Braun wearing the sheep mask is shown.
So… alright. This segment. It was pretty good until the reveal, but a few points.
The reveal itself was a good concept. However, nuance was absent here. Ending the segment with Braun throwing the sheep mask down, then coming back from break and having Cole and Graves explain to us what just happened with a quick throwback to Braun in the Wyatt family, THAT would have been more effective. Don’t show the still image and then come back and explain everything. I’m nitpicking but I’m a sucker for storyline so I say let’s do better next time.
Next, goodness gracious Braun, can you not sound like you’re reading from a teleprompter? This is where WWE doesn’t book to a babyface’s strengths. If they got over as a force to be reckoned with, don’t have them be the happy go lucky babyface champion.
Finally, can we please record different Bray Wyatt laugh tracks? Thanks. Having said all that, I did like the Wyatt family callback here, as well as callbacks to Braun and Alexa Bliss’s Mixed Match Challenge partnership.

Cruella Deville cool grin
Sonya Deville came out in tears wanting to bury the hatchet with Mandy after she conspired with Dolph to drive a wedge between her and Otis. When Mandy came out, Deville said she’s known Mandy for five years and has seen her more than her own family.
And what she’s been wanting to tell Mandy? She’s the most selfish human being she’s ever met. Fire and Desire was never about Sonya and Mandy, it was all about Mandy. It was her entrance music and her magazine cover. She’s nothing but a dime a dozen bottled blonde from a lab. Sonya said she was wasted and had to play second best to no talent eye candy! Now she wants to hurt Mandy.
Dolph came out and tried to play mediator, while trying to get Mandy back, but as she pushed him away, Sonya attacked her. Otis came out attacked Dolph and when Sonya tried to take him out, Mandy attacked her back and she and Dolph ran back up the ramp. Dolph tried a second time but Otis gets the better of him.
I was enjoying this feud a lot, then found out that the writer of this feud was released or furloughed. I was worried about the way it would be handled in their absence, and it looks like I didn’t have to worry! This segment rocked. All players did great, and it was a starmaker for Sonya Deville. What’s even more interesting though, Dolph wasn’t a complete heel here. He genuinely expressed a desire to get Mandy back and became frustrated with Sonya for attacking her. Where do we go from here?

Big E def. Miz and Jey Uso - And the NEEWWWWWWWW SmackDown Tag Team Champions! (RIP Howard Finkel.) This match didn’t get much of a big fight main event feel. Regardless, having Miz and Jey Uso try to take Big E out was a nice touch, since New Day have more reigns than The Usos and Miz and Morrisson combined. It was fast paced and fun to watch. Still have a feeling we’re not done here, because like I said last week, they’re the three teams revolving around the titles right now and we need new life in this division.
Also, Big E? Those belts were not sanitized before you kissed them, my friend. Yuck.

Tamina def. Sasha Banks - Tamina dominated until after the break, when Bayley tried to get her attention so Sasha could push her into the ringpost. Lacey Evans came out to attack Bayley and stop her from interfering. I had hopes for this last week, but there wasn’t any progression in the Sasha/Bayley conflict. Adding to that, the match wasn’t great and nothing clicked here. Super disappointing since this is one of the best storylines in WWE right now.
After the match Lacey is confronted backstage by Charly Caruso and told her that she’ll follow Sasha wherever she goes and revealed Sasha’s name written on her Women’s Right hand. I’m… not happy about the addition of Lacey here. Her character isn’t enlivening to me at all.

Dana Brooke def. Naomi - This was a surprise victory for Dana. Before the match Carmella gets in her face about preparing for this match instead of their Women’s tag title match next week. Dana said she can do both. And so she will! Dana looked legitimately happy and surprised that she won. I was expecting Naomi to win so I’m pleasantly surprised.

The Money in the Bank match is announced and… it’s very different this time around. This match will be in WWE headquarters and the participants must get to the roof from the ground floor and “climb the corporate ladder”. This is going to be one of those matches that will be either really good or really bad depending on how they film this.

Daniel Bryan def. Cesaro - Cesaro and Bryan got the Apollo/Aleister treatment this week. I have been waiting a long time for these two to lock up. A damn classic I tell ya. Backslides and backbreakers and uppercuts galore! Bryan got Cesaro in the Lebell Lock for the win, and Drew Gulak stopped Nakamura from interfering. Seek this one out.

The truth will be revealed - Before the first commercial break in this match, the WWE hacker flashed onto the screen and showed a bunch of tag teams (The Usos, New Day, Miz and Morrisson, Bliss/Cross, Sasha and Bayley) and said some people keep their friends close, but others keep their enemies closer. Looks like we’re seeing someone turn on their tag partner soon! If it’s not the obvious one here, who do we think they’re referring to? I'm going with Sasha and Bayley but I'm open to suprises (I still think that hacker is Mustapha Ali)

Sheamus def. Denzel Dejournette - Denzel was given another shot on SmackDown, but never really got any offense in. Sheamus had some fire under him and got a quick win.
After the match Sheamus hears Michael Cole talking about Jeff Hardy again. He got in Cole’s face (social distancing, Sheamus!) and said he’s being disrespected. Really interested in seeing how this advances next week.

Corbin and Elias brawl backstage....

Another Jeff Hardy video package is shown, this time detailing Jeff’s addiction issues. From the time he left WWE in 2009 through his arrests. Next week will be the redemption story.

The Forgotten Sons - A short video package was shown of the new tag team on SmackDown. They give off a real Sons of Anarchy vibe. This little video package made me want to see more from them.

SmackDown was a 60/40 split for me. I’m super confused as to why we’re continuing Corbin and Elias. That’s boring and should be done with. Why have Elias win at WrestleMania if we’re rolling it back? Not happy about this one at all. Sasha and Tamina was underwhelming. Do we have to make fun of Tamina’s size? The small shirt and having the ringpost glitch out when she was pushed into it don’t serve any purpose to further the story. And Lacey being thrown back into this? Pass. Please don’t do Braun dirty with the heavily scripted promos, WWE.

I enjoyed the Mandy/Sonya segment the most tonight. (Gosh those are really pretty ladies)SmackDown looks like it’s coming into its own post WrestleMania. There were mostly good matches tonight, with interest for next week’s show for what will happen with tag team fallout, Sasha and Bayley fallout, Sheamus’ hatred towards Jeff’s comeback, a women’s tag title match, and Triple H’s 25th anniversary.

Re: Purpl3's WWE (and Pro-wrestling in general) Discussion And Banter House by 100naira(m): 4:05pm On Apr 18, 2020
E be like say Tamina will be getting a push after all seeing that she's gone from losing left, right and center to getting wins against Sasha Banks.

Fire and Desire don kpeme from the look of things. About time they try going solo, also it looks like the story between Zigler/Otis/Mandy/Deville will continue.

Mehn Dana is one thick ass chick! grin in fact it was a match of thick ass chicks as Naomi herself is thick as well(sorry Jimmy). Considering that Dana was supposed to be in tag team match with camela next week I expected a short match and win for Naomi so imagine my suprise that after kicks to the face and nyash views from Naomi, Dana scored the win against Naomi. Anyway as Corey said, she no get chance against the likes of Baszler and Asuka.

Hidden white R-truth is threatening to reveal more secrets that will ruin a tag team or friends. (Morrison turning on Miz maybe?)

Again another Vignette of Jeff hardy was shown with this one touching the fall of jeff, next week will be the redemption vignette and it looks like he will feud with Sheamus.

Abeg they should find someone else to feud with King Corbin, Elias got the win at wrestlemania (which I didn't like) so they should move on from that feud.

And Big E won the tag team titles for new day, I no lie I was suprised by that. Anyways he was clowning around and Corey Graves was not happy about him sitting on his laps and celebrating cheesy

WWE Raw results, recap, reactions....

Clay more kicks for all grin grin cheesy
Drew McIntyre started off Raw and touted the history and prestige of the WWE championship. He realizes that he’s at the top of the mountain and because of that, there’s a target on his back. He talked about Seth Rollins, who attacked him last week, and said that he sees that he wants another shot at his championship. Even though some say he doesn’t deserve it, he decided that he will give him an opportunity at Money in the Bank.
Zelina, Angel Garza, and Austin Theory come out and Zelina said she’s sick of Drew’s speeches and chastises him for focusing on Money in the Bank, when he has a match with Garza tonight. All of a sudden Andrade attacks Drew from behind, but Drew gets him back and Claymore Kicks him over the top rope. Zelina told Theory and Garza to help Andrade but they don’t go for him until he was on the floor outside.
This segment was very well done. Andrade attacked Drew from behind, pleasing his business associate and cronies, but he got caught. Zelina yelled at Garza and Theory to jump in and help but they were too afraid since Drew was on high alert. They openly attack when they can to someone like Tozawa or Tehuti Miles last week, because those little guys are nobodies. But Drew? Drew’s the top dog and they’re treating him as such. Last week and this week they attacked him only from behind. It’s brilliant, and it’s booking that makes EVERYONE smart. Later on, however...
During the main event, all of Zelina’s associates were out to support Garza. Drew was vicious to Garza from the start and was well aware of his surroundings as he fought off both Theory and Andrade, but Garza was able to get some offense in. Drew laid waste of the trio and defeated Garza. Drew decided to have a bit more fun and Claymore Kick Garza a second time, then Theory when he attempted to attack. He ended Raw posing tranquilo style on the ramp.

Seth Rollins accepts McIntyre’s challenge - Rollins cuts a promo while sitting in a truly God-like chair. He said he knows what it’s like to walk in a champion’s shoes as he also slayed the beast Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. He accepts Drew’s challenge out of necessity because the WWE needs a proven leader.
Seth is firing on all cylinders with the Messiah character right now. Another very good talking segment from him. Not exactly thrilled that he’s already in the main event picture after losing at WrestleMania but let’s see how it goes.

Aleister Black def. Austin Theory - Theory was able to evade some of Aleister’s moveset and when he got in trouble, Zelina was there to rescue him. Zelina has been killing it on commentary putting over her associates. The Black Mass is a thing of beauty when the opponent can sell it right, and Theory did a good job.
Aleister was the right pick, but I don’t like seeing Theory take another loss again. Aleister has been effortless these past few weeks and I’m really excited to see him in his first MITB match.

Apollo Crews def. MVP - Before the match MVP put over Apollo but said he knows how to climb the corporate ladder and make money deals. MVP certainly put Apollo’s offense over after trash talking him into aggression.
I know we need to fill time, but there’s better ways to do it than have Apollo sell this hard for MVP. Nothing against MVP but after the clinic Apollo put on with Aleister two weeks ago, I expected a near squash, especially after MVP’s promo.

Rey Mysterio def. Murphy - Rey got out of the ring with an apparent finger injury but Murphy took real advantage of it toying with the whole arm. He dominated for the whole first half but Rey got momentum by slamming Murphy into the barricade. With a sick Destroyer and 619, the vet gets a shot at MITB.
I did not expect Rey to win here. I like being surprised but I thought that having Aleister and Murphy in the ring for MITB was what we were getting and I’m a bit let down.

Shayna Baszler def. Indi Hartwell - Another ref stoppage squash match. Shayna has a very intriguing point in her matches since being beat by Becky where a switch flips and she decides to attack instead of wrestle. I’m… actually enjoying it. cheesy

Ricochet & Cedric Alexander def. Brendan Vink & Shane Thorne - Vink started with some serious offense throwing Ric all over the place. This was fast paced and really fun. The Recoil into the Lumbar Check is a nice finisher! RicoRic have a great vibe and exude more confidence as a tag team, so hopefully this lasts a while.

Nia Jax def. Kairi Sane - Well this was advertised and I was excited thinking we’d be getting something more exciting than last week… and it was slightly better. Kind of. They did a knee injury angle throughout the match to give Kairi a potential upset victory, but it didn’t lead to much. Asuka was shown in the back yelling at the screen and was the highlight of this whole match. Nia looked bored and that was my general feeling on this.

Liv Morgan def. Ruby Riott - Before the match Ruby tells Charly Caruso that the Riott Squad was only about her having to carry Liv and Sarah. Ruby always fights with motivation. Her elbows look stiff as hell and have purpose. This was a surprise win for Liv. I’d like to see these two go at it for a bit. Wish this one got the length of time Nia vs. Kairi got.

Viking Raiders - VIKING RAIDERS! VIKING RAIDERS! I have no words for this one. Felt like The Revival’s rumored repackaging was given to these guys. grin

Charlotte Flair def. Kayden Carter - So ok I’ve not seen Carter before and I really liked her in this match. Charlotte gave her a STIFF elbow to the jaw and I thought she was done there. Charlotte saw that Carter was stepping up and you could sense the quickness in trying to put her away. This was a quick win for Charlotte but now I want to see more from Carter! cool

Andrade def. Akira Tozawa - Tozawa started off with some real babyface fire, countering Andrade’s moves left and right. Zelina distracted Tozawa for Andrade like she did for Theory earlier. Both Andrade and Zelina did a great job putting Tozawa over and this was a great showing for him, even in defeat.

Bianca Belair def. Santana Garrett - Street Profits introduced Bianca and were on commentary for her match. This was a quick match but the main attraction was the insane electricity coming from commentary. It was a bit draining to be honest. Decent showing for Bianca but man were the Street Profits turned up to 11,000. grin grin grin

Lashley and Lana - They’re in the PC gym and Lashley is flipping tires. It feels like every week, WWE doesn’t know if they want to break these two up or keep them together. It’s pretty boring.

So you’d think that judging from last week, it seemed Zelina’s stable was going to be a dominant force, right? Apparently not if you go by Raw this week. Andrade is the United States Champion, and Angel Garza and Austin Theory have shown that they are capable hands. All men had very good showings in their matches. However, they were pretty much fed to Drew McIntyre. I’m worried about where this leads for them once this feud is over.

WWE is doing a disservice by not having it be explained clearly why Seth Rollins is getting a title shot over Kevin Owens. Kevin Owens hasn’t even been mentioned since his promo on the Raw after WrestleMania. While babyface vs. babyface doesn’t feel like the right first title defense for Drew, it still would make more sense than having Drew say “some say Seth doesn’t deserve an opportunity but I’m not going to make Seth jump through hoops.” Yeah, he’s a decorated superstar, but he doesn’t deserve an opportunity! And if not Kevin Owens, why not roll with Andrade to Money in the Bank? He’s a title holder himself, and the rest of Zelina’s stable would have made an entertaining few weeks trying to play as foils for Drew...just few Nitpicks tho

Finally, this week I found myself missing people. I miss Randy Orton, Edge, AJ Styles, and Kevin Owens. Their absence is being felt cry cry. As negative as I might be at the end of this, I did enjoy the show for the most part.

Last week it was Sasha banks and Dana Brooke.

Yesterday it was Zelina(sorry Aleister Black). These women just wan put person for trouble with their... lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

Imagine the joke, Aleister being distracted by his wife Zelina against theory grin grin

Also Tozawa dominating Andrade was surprising, adding to his win on Nxt last week, maybe just maybe he's been moved up from squash matches grin

Rico and Cedric scored a win, Apollos qualified for the money in the bank and Rey mysterio surprisingly qualified against Murphy who I thought would qualify. With the question mark on his shirt maybe this is Rey's swan song.

I say this again, the street profits na werey, their commentary na fire grin grin grin

For the first time, Someone ripped Garza's trousers off grin grin

I knew that Balor Vs Dream match wouldn't have a definite winner cos none of them needed to lose right now so they played the card of people taking out Balor before the match even happened right... Imperium are the obvious suspects but there are soo many suspicious people on NXT right now grin grin

Tegan Noxx lost her tag team match and I'm not okay cry I love that girl soomuch

Charlotte get bad mouth tbh grin calling Mia Yim a good hand grin

This new guy Dexter Lumis really hates the UE, I wonder what they did to him

And Maverick cry poor Maverick, he still wrestled despite his release and he will still complete the tournament..I don't see him picking up any wins tho as he failed to win the least person in that group today..but I would welcome a good suprise tho if he beats either Neese or Kushida...I'm also thinking maybe WWE will hire him back after this I don't know cos it's weird

Drake had a decent match, Jake Atlas na good wrestler as well, I mean that finisher was sick. Why do I feel like Drake might come back to wwe a better repackaged wrestler than before.

Kushida v Niese was lit, I am with almost everyone, Kushida is the favorite to win the tournament but there might be a surprise winner.

Fantasma had a decent match with gallagher as well and he was nearly kidnapped by the same kidnappers that kidnapped Mendoza and wilde.

I thought Adam Cole was on lock down? E don tire to stay for house de play game grin

The main event was something else, from Damian priest attacking Keith Lee with his stick and taking him out of the match thereby making the match a handicapped match for Dream against the UE to Dexter Lumis showing up and helping dream against UE.
